Pro Tip: In your saved "4mm Fillet tool" item, go ahead and create your tool in every orientation around a square: 4 on each corner one direction, and 4 on each corner in the other direction (since sometimes you want to fillet horizontal corners, too). And of course set them all to be holes, too. And then the next time you want to round off the corners off something basically square or rectangular, no more rotating and adjusting and changing state, just copy them all into the new item, and start aligning them to your object. Huge time saver!

Autodesk dont care about tinkercad and therefore its ignored without any new features.

If you want round corners you can adjust the Radius to get round corners.

Easiest way for me to do it was leave tinkercad and go to fusion 360.

This is the way. …and kind of AutoDesk’s plan.

didnt see the necessity to change the work surface. also when you rotated the main object all you had to do was select the view plane. you instead used the more complicated methods in several instances IMO

You've reinvented the metafillet. If you want to do it the hard way you should have rotated the roof 90 degrees before aligning (or just use a box. Then use cylinder with a number of sides divisible by four like 24 for example.

I have a lot of issues with TinkerCAD due to severe lag when I am dealing with many elements on screen. I’m using an i5 with 16GB RAM and a 32Mbit broadband stream which is fine for everything, except TinkerCAD. So I am currently learning to use a free to use software package that can be downloaded to my computer as an app. I cannot imagine what it’s like to use TinkerCAD in a classroom environment with the dreadful internet speeds I witnessed when I worked in a school. Good video and clear concise explanations. I found myself explaining a lot of stuff to students. They just wanted to do stuff but they didn’t know how so I prepped files ahead of time and stepped them through. It’s important to provide the ‘instant gratification’ for students after a few steps, rather than at the end of the entire exercise. They need to see they are accomplishing tasks and getting results to maintain their focus.

Just a suggestion if you ate watching this in 2024, it is easier to rotate a part than the filet tool. You setup one corner then duplicate the tool, then merge, then rotate the part, duplicate tool, merge...

Special place in the afterlife for HS teachers! Unfortunately, often a thankless job. I'm curious - if you can save the file to import as a tool, this means it can be shared. Wondering if there's a collection of such useful small tools somewhere. Either way, I appreciate your time and patience explaining this.

Yah, love that fillet tool, but learn a bit of Tinkercad to be able to modify STL, something that Onshape doesn't do.

That makes the corner slightly thin, how about building up the material on the inside ?

    • @stuffoflardohfortheloveof

If you wanted/needed to do that you could use the same filleting tool but change it from a 'hole' into a 'solid' and add it to inside of the corner, then group it with the model etc 👍

Way too much work, just use a cube and a circle same size. Align them together with the align tool and then cut out. Perfect every time. Just something to save you time for yourself and your students. I admire what it takes to be a teacher. :-) I just noticed that the video is older so new tools in the new versions where you can save the item to your favorites. You can also just ctrl c the item and then just paste it into the other tab where your item to be modified was. Nice job on the part though and very useful. The internet is a horrible and cruel mistress. If I ever take the plunge and do a video I will know that there are terrible people out there and we have to expect ANYTHING when it comes to comments from the general public. I ran a business for 20 years and you would be amazed at the things that come out of the mouths of people. And that is when they are standing right in front of you.

I am a high school teacher, so my tutorials are intended for students who have never used the software before. I have be as descriptive as possible. Try figuring it out on your own next time if you want to be so critical about my work. The internet could use less people like yourself.
