The beast is fighting against his old self at this point. Gaston is everything the beast was prior to his curse - selfish, arrogant, short temper. It wasnt until after his curse and after Belle entered his life that he began to change for the better and become more human.

Gaston was the very first villain I had ever seen before in my life, and Beauty and the Beast was the first Disney film I had ever watched when I was a kid. I was born the same year the film came out it, but only saw it when it came to home video in Fall 1992.

Magic, excitement, enchantments, wonders, imagination, romance, music, action, fantasy, thrills, and adventures. Oh, my God. I remember this song performed by Belle, "Listen with Our Hearts." This was from a movies I once owned when I was only eight years old, Belle's Magical World (1998). Brings back memories. It magically feels like yesterday. I miss it very much, but I have never forgotten it after all these years. That never gets old. Nothing ceases to amaze me with magic. I never give up believing in fairies and magic with all my heart because I still refuse to grow up, and forget about the precious things I knew, especially those from my childhood. No growing up, yuck! I am like Peter Pan and have his youthful spirit. My one and only wish is to keep the magic alive for all time and I also wish to be a fairy to stay strong, childlike, young, and beautiful forever and ever like Tinker Bell, and the other fair folks. You know if you pay close attention you’ll notice that the beast is fighting more like a man while Gaston is fighting more like an animal. The beast shows a much more calculating and self-controlled approach, ignoring Gaston's insults and waiting for the right moment to attack. Meanwhile, Gaston displays a highly more animalistic approach, savagely attacking Beast at any chance and even trying to provoke him into attacking by angering him, displaying an impulsive and short-sighted style.
