It is small scenes like this that led to Bozanawitch to accuse him of being a liar on the stand. It was subtle throughout the series. Kids will often lie as an immediate reaction when they are caught doing wrong. I think it was so automatic with the brothers because of fear. Javier was amazing in this role. Very talented actor.

I wonder if Jose truly showed his vulnerability and his tears, maybe it would’ve gotten through to Lyle and Erik of how their actions affect others. It could’ve been a bonding moment, but instead Jose chose to push them away not to show “weakness”. Seems like a missed opportunity.
