1966 GTO Speedometer Needle Removal
After all recommended methods failed, decided to build a tool to remove the needle. This tool was very easy to build using items available around the garage and quickly removed the needle without causing any damage.

Thanks for the video, nice job! Two questions, how do you reinstall the needle and where can I buy a puller like that? Thanks!

Hi David, my friend and I actually made this little tool. It's not hard to make one but if you would like we can make you one. To put the needle back you need to press it on. Do you have an email or phone number I can send you more information?

@@norbertovencovsky3236 Yes, I would appreciate more info. My email is: davidhmorris@gmail.com. I’ll like to put a new speedometer faceplate on my ‘65 GTO and was warned that the removal and replacement of the needle was very delicate. Thank you!

Neat tool. A great idea, but why the music?? I need to hear what you are telling us!

Only improvement needed would be a way to grab the needle perpendicular to the puller so as to clamp down on the motor shaft so you're not pulling up on the motor itself but just in the shaft

That is hella lame..I could remove your pointer in seconds...I could teach you how to do it too..in seconds. but I admire your ingenuity.

That's a cool idea but going back together is always a cramp, trying to figure out exactly where to point the needle so it's still in calibration speed wise. I mean, if will "float" at zero that's one thing but some speedos have a peg at the bottom and there's never an eazy way to mark the shaft to know where the starting point is on reassembly.

On my vehicle you have to pull the needle up and over the 0 mark then the needle will drop down about half an inch. That's the true resting mark where you remove it from but remember to put the needle back on right at that spot

I shall give it a go! as per the welder I did build my own using a scrapped microwave so just need roll up my sleeves and try to make it :) (the pipes need be 2 mm thickness or so as any larger wont fit bmw speedometer. and now for those who have time to read...story time :) (by the way it appears that BMW used really poor quality plastic to make clusters and the BMW X5 stands out as the worst example. BMW has made those faulty speedometers with pixle fading problem and is surprisingly been kept quiet or as if nothing to do with them!! Tool-makers tried to size the opportunity and try to make & sell needle removers but made a mess of it. BMW! do not pretend like nothing happened . You made some garbage, prone to failure clusters and now keeping quiet about it. Wake up and address it now! a year ago BMW did a recall on failing Airbags but refused to change both front airbags insisting that only one was failing! What a joke? if someone were to change only one end of the corridor light bulb he is waiting for the far end to go and then decides to change them both at the same time realizing that he had to pay for 3 bulbs instead of only two needed. Is bmw taking a chance ? Do they thing that they are too big to fail? Warning! Do not buy a BMW as the moment one does life just starts rolling downhill.

Roberto, thanks man! really creative mind. I'm going to do the same having bought a useles china "bmw removal tool" which has a niddle rather than the proper base ( which damages the spedo base punching it through!). Yours appears to be working as marvel. If you can't post one to me i need start constructing the much needed tool without delay! Any tips? Thanks

Hey powertran, the tool was made out of 2 different size square tubes. Just made the necessary cuts and welded the screw on one of the pieces. If you don't have a welder you can make a hole and use nuts. Very easy to make!
