Fixin' the Vixen Episode 4: Braking News
Welcome back to episode 4 of our Vixen series. In the last episode we got the Vixen moving. Today we are working on getting it to stop. After our first test drive, we noticed the Vixen had really spongey brakes so today we will figure out what is causing this and hopefully fix it.
Hope you enjoy the video and thanks for following along our journey.

Fixin' the Vixen Episode 3: Clutch troubles.
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.14 дней назад
Welcome back to episode 3 of our Vixen series. Today we are working on getting the Vixen moving. After sitting in the scrapyard and not having been driven in who knows how long, the Vixen had multiple issues that would cause it not to stat and move. We already got the engine running in the last episode so today we're working on getting the clutch fully operational. Hope you enjoy the video and ...

Просмотров 1,1 тыс.21 день назад
Welcome back to episode 2 of our Fixin' the Vixen series! In this episode we will be going over the basic checks and trying to get the Vixen up and running. It had a pretty bad oil leak, but luckily it was a simple fix. Hope you enjoy!

Disc brakes ? You have other things to spend the money on. Run and stops now. Great stuff. Most of my tools are standard and I have slowly picking up metric. Look forward to your next vid.
The Vixen resembles my GMC Palm Beach. The Palm Beach weighs in at 6 tonnes it’s amazing the Vixen weighs less than half that.
What is the colour?
Gj boys
Doesn't the G20 have different brake shoes for the primary and secondary shoe? The one with the smaller friction material goes towards the front as it's self assisting, the larger one goes towards the back. Not sure if that's the case here but it looks like you have two identical shoes. Mixing them up makes the brakes act really funny. Just a heads up, I really like your mini series about the Vixen.
@@creak92 no you’re 100% right haha I forgot everything I learned in mechanic school and put two of the same shoes. I figured it out when the drum had trouble fitting haha 🤦♂️ but you’re right I did mess it up and fixed it after! Thanks for the tip though it’s a good catch!
This thing is lighter than the new M5??? shows how much has new cars literally inflated
@@onedoesnotsimplysayaname haha yeah it actually weighs less. Now I’m not knocking the M5 cause it has like 700 HP vs this thing 115 haha but still I’m shocked how much they packed into the M5
Nice work, keep doing what you're doing.
@@Unknown_Tranquility thanks so much! Will keep it up!🙌
Wow, it's slightly lighter than my Merc GL which is a surprise. The Vixen is about 1.3m longer though - the GL is a shade over 5m - but the Vixen "looks" much longer probably because of the low roofline. My friend has an Audi Q7 with rear-steering and even though it's the same length as my GL, it made getting off my old driveway much easier for him (it was tight). I suspect Canada has wider roads than rural England so probably not a problem there. Fun series. Keep 'em coming.
@@NigelMarston yeah the Vixen is very long and very wide but the roof is very low so it gives it a weird look for sure! But next to other vehicles it doesn’t look that big at all! Yeah Canadas roads are definitely much wider. A lot of people here drive big pickup trucks daily and those are about the same size as this vixen
Awsome! Keep going 🤘
@@interceptintercept thanks will do 🙏
11min50 answered my only concern, nicely done
@@Stoney1985 haha I’m kinda regretting not filming the rest of it now, but after struggling with the shoes I couldn’t be bothered 😂
love these videos
@@valid1375 thanks so much 🙏 working hard to keep them coming!
Great video!!
@@joeyfares6301 thanks 🙏 🙌
Good job! Why not do both sides at the same time? Right side likely to go sooner than later…
@til7545 He did as mentioned in the video, just didn't tape it.
Thanks! Yeah I just wanted to make sure the brakes were working but then I went and replaced the other side right after. You're right though, the shoes on the other side were still fine, but the cylinder was just starting to leak so I replaced both while I was there.
@@randallredelman1417 ooops… must have missed that part! Apologies 😉
that vehicle is amazing, nice work
Thanks! Its a cool one I'm glad its starting to come together!
On a Vixen, do the rear drum brakes also have cable activation for parking/emergency use? If converting to disc would require alternative means to apply? Not a Vixen owner yet, but looking to purchase.
Yes they do also have a cable for the emergency brake so if converting to discs youd have to sort it with either a smaller shoe/drum system, or you could use a caliper with a handbrake built in either through a cable or electronically if you really want to be fancy. Definitely is possible though!
Thanks. staying with the drums seems to be a good choice.
@@randallredelman1417 thats what I think as well. I will test it out more when I get it on the road and make sure the brakes are still adequate to stop from highway speeds and such. If they're not good ill look at upgrading
As far as water pumps go it's not a fun one. Overall a stout motor and relatively simple. Sohc and tune up parts shared with the six cylinders.
automatic? never seen a gears like that befor
I have seen switches like that in various buses. Usually the missile switch is ignition and the push button is a remote start. The other switch with the red end would often be an engine bay light.
🙌 Y E S. Good job dude this is exactly what we asked for and you just delivered. Can’t wait till this projects done and this channel makes it big. Also, as a fellow onterrible resident myself, I can’t wait to see this on the roads.
Hell yea. Love the long format vids
Thanks! Will try to keep them coming!
Cool episode!! I'd love if the camera was a little bit closer from the action tho!
Thank you! I'll definitely try to keep that in mind for the next one!
Did you figure out what that switch was for?
Unfortunately I haven't solved that one yet, but I think I saw at the end of the video something glowing red from that area so it might be that switch cause it looked like it had a light on the end of it. I'll have to trace the wires some day and try and figure it out!
@@VulcanMotorWorks I have seen switches like that in various buses. Usually the missile switch is ignition and the push button is a remote start. The other switch with the red end would often be an engine bay light. They do this so you don't have to go all the way to the front and dirty up the cabin just to start the engine to check your work.
This is sick, love from Nepal 🇳🇵
Ayy thanks for the support!
Tony seems like a good guy, subscribed
Tony would have to agree with this haha! Thanks for the sub!
Thank you, I enjoyed that very much! I almost went after one of these about 6 years ago, but it was 8 hr away and hadn't run in four years. I guess it tuned out for someone as i saw the same unit in Yellowstone 6 mo later (16hr in the other direction). Anyway, good job Tony!
Hey thanks for the comment! Yeah unfortunately you can't always get them all, but at least it sounds like it went to a good home. Hope you do find the Vixen for you some day though!
Gotta find you a set of original taillights!
Haha I don't think they're too hard to find they were borrowed from a pontiac T100, but to be fair I don't know if i've ever seen one of those in person either! I like the style that it is now I believe its the only one around that has this light setup and that makes it even more unique so I think ill leave my funky tail lights as they are for now!
Man, i love this. I feel like I'm just hanging out at the shop with you guys lol
Aha thanks I like that its like were hanging out! Maybe I should make the rest of these long form videos more as a kind of 'Help me out in the shop' style vids!
@VulcanMotorWorks keep up the good work!! ❤️

As what's known in the car video scene as "Disrespected nose" #mcm
Ayy mighty car mods was one of the first car RUclips channels that I would watch when I was younger 🙌 ✌️
@@VulcanMotorWorks of course! Love the vixen! Keep the vids going! A disrespected nose video once in a while is great!
now tighten the license plate up to eliminate another noise. :)
@@donrozwick7367 haha that’s on the agenda too 😂 I think the holes tapped into the bumper are a standard size though and all I have is metric so I’ll have to find bolts for it
This is exactly the content I wanted to see! Thanks for posting!! 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks so much 🙏 will keep posting more!
I've seen only 2 of these RVs on the road in the past 40 years. Can't wait to see your finished product. Great videos!
This is the only one I’ve ever seen in person I can’t even imaging seeing another one! Thanks hopefully it will be on the road doing trips soon!
If it is all fixed up by summer I hope to see it at a meet or something
Definitely even if its not fully finished as long as it can drive im bringing it out to all the meets haha!
I love these long form videos! Honestly I could watch hours of this! Keep it up
Thanks for the comment! I will definitely keep it up!
Wow your dedication is admirable! Keep doing what you do, cant wait to see more of this alien!
Thanks so much dude! You’ll definitely be seeing a lot more of it in the future!
It was that close to becoming scrap and now she is running and moving. What a great rig. Congrats
I know it’s wild to think this thing might’ve been crushed but with a little work (lot of work) it can possibly be used and enjoyed for years to come!
@ You get it running (you already did) and stopping and suddenly the value has gone way up. You could sell it and make some $$$
@@dougabbott8261 haha yeah most of the big things are done! but Im not even thinking of selling i just wanna drive it and enjoy it as a camper to me thats the best!
Great to see this in a longer form Content than on ig! Hope we get a detailing episode one day, that and cool wheels with Angel eyes too!
@@ingediaingedia4368 Ayy thanks for watching the vid 🙏 definitely planning on detailing it up and making it fresh! I wanna get the mechanical down first though cause we’re gonna make it dirty again working on it haha!
great step forward with getting it moving, stopping is overrated... lack of visibility takes some getting used to, I drive 18 wheelers for a living, there is no need for seeing everything.
Thanks! You only need brakes if you plan on stopping haha! Or like my buddy used to say. If you’re big enough, they have to get out of your way!
3:49 "my pocket screwdriver" LMFAO
😂 you should see my pry bar!
this is going to be such an interesting series, a few other people mentioned it but this would be perfect in landscape with less music and more audio from the actual videos you guys take. ive never seen one of these vixens before so i bet this could get a lot of traction on youtube like that !! super rad vehicle
also this thing would be a show stopper at a car show like oblivion or radwood, i absolutely love it
@@kato6463 Ay thanks for the recommendations! Unfortunately when I filmed the first few episodes I didn’t expect people would actually want to see long form vids so I only filmed in portrait. But for the rest of them they’re all landscape! Check back this page in a few hours the next episode is going live and it has a lot of those changes so I hope you’ll like it!
@@kato6463 and definitely planning on bringing it out to lots of shows especially oblivion!
What is the the name of the colour?
I believe its just Schwarz

Such an interesting car and series to watch! Would love to have it in landscape though (TikTok also allows landscape now I think). Also pleeease: no music over purring engines. Would've loved to hear the sound 🥰
@@MRoth93 thanks for the tip! I know I’m kicking myself for shooting the first 2 episodes only in portrait but the rest of them from now on will be in landscape! And haha this thing sounds like a tractor but I’ll quiet down the music for you next time no worries 🙏🙌
I'm so curious about these cars. I like to see more and longer videos!
@@Kevjann thanks! More videos coming soon!
I’m obsessed with these series !
@@vickys4690 thanks for following along 🙏🙌
really want to follow this build but I think it would gain more of an audience in a more raw/long form content. Either way excited to see what happens.
@@519Dakota hey thanks for the tip! What kind of video would that look like? More like just an hour long straight unedited video working on the car?
@@VulcanMotorWorks I personally would be down to see that. Especially since I can say with certainty that I will never get the opportunity to get under one of these myself and wrench and being an M20 guy seeing M21 stuff is familliar and incredibly odd at the same time.
@@karmatose ah alright good to know I’ll try to get some more stuff like that out then it’s much easier to just point the camera and do minimal editing haha. I’ll try to get a video out soon whenever I get a chance to work on the vixen
@519Dakota @karmatose I'm working on some of this stuff right now. Would you guys rather just the raw video or have some light background music in there too?
@ raw video preferably ✌️
🙌🙌
Thanks! 🙌
Awesome. Followed you over here from IG, can't wait to see the rest of the episodes.
Ayy thanks so much! Working on more episodes every day!
