Glasgow Necropolis 4K
The Necropolis officially opened in 1833 as an interdenominational burial ground but it was a full year before the first Christian burial took place.
The ornate entrance and bridge - known as the Bridge of Sighs - were completed in 1836 with later extensions added to the site in 1877 and 1892.
Back in February 2020, movie fans were delighted to see the Dark Knight roaming near Glasgow Cathedral and in the Necropolis on a motorbike for the new Batman Movie 2022.

The remains of this church stand on a high point of ground overlooking the ground to the North. The earliest record of it occurs in a charter of 1468 and the list of ministers dates from 1570 to 1667. It was probably left to fall into ruin soon after the union of the parishes in 1668. The burial vault on the North side of the church is said to bear the date 1638. Bobby doggie didn't like it her...

Queensferry Light Tower and the Forth Rail Bridge
What a wonderful Castle. Whoever the builders were did an incredible job all those years ago. ❤ Scotland has alot of these type of buildings. Sadly they won't be standing too much longer 😢
Thank you for watching 👍👍
absolutely love the additional drone shots. really showcase the structures. nice
@@SingaporeUntold great thank you 👍👍👍
thanks for sharing this info. I'm in USA and many many years ago i bought a pair of antique books written by Sir Thomas Hale/contemplations moral and divine/1685 and inside it says "Sir Thomas Kennedy of Dalquaran" in lovely quill/ink writing and lots of other writings throughout...i had been trying to research the spelling as it is in the book but clearly it's spelled differently now. I think my books must have belonged to him and I'm guessing this was his home...Since i'll never make it to Scotland to see the history of my books in real life, i'm happy to find info on YT.
Wow thats genuinely amazing what an interesting story ,so glad it was of some help 👍👍👍

I don't know how many old cemeteries are over there but I try and watch these videos when I see them Hoping I might see a McKim grave shown...❤my McKim family came to The United States in the early to mid 1700s
we will certainly keep an eye out for that name ,thanks for watching 👍👍

Why thank you glad you enjoyed it 😜
Why was it left to get into this state of disrepair? Anyone know? Seen there were objections put in to stop the demolition of it... So why didn't the objectors help to save it?... Fine to object if going to do something to protect it.
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing
Great glad you enjoyed it 👍👍👍
In addition to the details provided above, there was also the factory's own railway station (Ardeer Factory), with inbound scheduled morning trains from Ardrossan, Saltcoats and Stevenston, returning in late afternoon. 13000 workers clearly merited a separate branch line and station. And Africa House, built for the 1938 Empire Exhibition in Glasgow was purchased by ICI Nobel Division, dismantled and rebuilt at the factory gates as one of their works canteens.
Thanks Brian ,it must have been an amazing place when its was operational ,shame about the state of Africa house should be preserved.

@@OutandAbout1 sounds great yes they still are!! Thx so much we will stay in touch!
I moved to Irvine in the late 1980s, when this complex was in its final years. On the Irvine harbour side of the plant was a jetty where boats used to load, well presumably, explosives. A couple of hundred yards down stream was the Magnum Leisure Centre, which contained a swimming pool, ice rink, theatre/cinema, gym and indoor sports halls. When the boats were loading there was a restriction on the numbers of people who were allowed into the Magnum…….the only logical assumption being that, in the event of an accident at the jetty, they didn’t want to endanger/ kill too many people. As part of the Millenium Celebrations an exhibition complex called the Big Idea was built at the end of the Ardeer peninsular across the river from the Magnum. Amongst other things it told the story of the Nobels and the development of explosives but closed after a couple of years due to dwindling visitor numbers. Over the years there have been various plans develop the Ardeer peninsular, which have included golf courses and, the latest, building a mini nuclear power plant there……to date they have all come to nothing. In the meantime, it makes a great place to wander and marvel at the way nature rapidly claims back what has been taken.
Thanks Anthony what a lovely story ,nature sure is reclaiming this area and its a wonderful place to take a stroll ,its such a shame about the Big Idea complex seems to look like an interesting building from the across the water .
They got their hair cut (in the 50s) about a half mile from where I now currently live in Belfast
Wow did you ever see them in the flesh ? Amazing talent 👍👍👍🤣

Thanks for this one too !! I spent a lot of time here in the 1970s !! The Gas House was used by the Glasgow School of Art as a Ceramic workshop. The Art School had a hostel in the grounds, a wonderful location for students and staff 👍 ! Best wishes, cheers, Don 🙋 !
