Another stop along the Forestry Trunk Road along the Canadian Rockies in my 2022 Chevy Colorado ZR2 4X4. I ran into some technical sections along the way to a remote lake and had to turn back. The Ghost River Valley is more than a haven for 4x4's. It has some fantastic mountain trails! Black Rock Mountain is a historical gem. It has an abandoned Fire Lookout Hut at the top that was built in 1928 and was decommissioned in the 1950's.

Loomis Lake. I can say without hesitation that this destination is a gem! The price of admission to this remote lake is WET FEET. There and back, you will need to cross the Highwood River twice and Loomis Creek 20 times. I will do this one again!

Alberta Public Land Use Zones never fail to impress! We found a great camping spot along Hunter Valley Road. This site is tucked away and you wouldn't know it was there unless you investigate.

My first attempt to reach Margaret Lake in my Chevy Colorado was a success! I have see a lot of videos and I didn't know what obstacles I would run into along the way. Margaret Lake is stunning and I am glad I can share it with you as not everybody can drive to this gem without a 4x4.

My top pick! Lake of the Falls is one of the most beautiful destinations in the Canadian Rockies. The trail to Lake of the Falls and Landslide Lake is long but easy to follow and world class fishing awaits the long hike!

Will a stock Honda Passport and Honda Odyssey van go there?
Hi there. Unfortunately those vehicles would not make it to any of the camp sites that are not immediately off the main gravel road.
So I'm from Calgary as well, you are camping in Bear Country cooking in your camp site. Any issue with bears and/or other wildlife?
I prep and store the food at my truck, away from where I sleep. But there is always a chance of wildlife migrating through any campsite at any time, so the need to be Bear Aware is a good practice.
What do you do with your poop?

For perspective, I was behind a convoy of Subarus that all required recovery gear to make it. The zr2 has a 2" lift from the factory which eliminated any challenge one might encounter with a lower 4x4. If you stick to the road that runs along the creek, you would be fine with a stock truck.

I had the opportunity to accompany Tyson on both a day hike, and a weekend backwood hike and camp trip, what a great experience. Tyson knows his stuff!
