West Texas Homesteading
Добавлен 9 окт 2021
Hey, y'all!! We are so happy you're here! We are turning a once forgotten farm into a thriving homestead in West Texas. We bought our farm December of 2020 and have been working on cleaning the property and renovating the inside of the home. We will soon be starting our first market garden in addition to our kitchen garden. We are documenting our journey along the way not only for our friends and family, but to inspire anyone who desires to start homesteading. We aspire to implement as many old-fashioned practices as possible. Bobby’s passion is gardening and farming. While I love gardening and consider it one of my greatest passions, cooking is my "thing" and one of the things I'm known for among friends and family. Our mission is to share our process of growing vegetables, fruits, grains, etc. in our region and showing you how our family uses what we grow. From Seed to Plate. Zone 7B

What month do you plant your turnip greens im in Texas?
I plant them September 1 along with collard greens and mustard. They do so much better in the fall and I harvest the day before the freeze.
@@westtexashomesteading4624 Thank you
Butternut?
I know. I was like that sure doesn’t look like one. But that’s the verity is called and we have eaten some of it and it tastes just like a butternut.
Oh it's because it's a cucurbita moschata l
Heheee! sweet baby being such a good helper, saying pepper AND counting! 🤍 from se Texas 👍👍

egionnaires' disease is a type of pneumonia caused by legionella bacteria. Legionnaires' disease doesn't spread from person to person. Instead, the bacteria spreads through mist, such as from air-conditioning units for large buildings. Adults over the age of 50 and people with weak immune systems, chronic lung disease, or heavy tobacco use are most at risk. Many people exposed to the bacteria don't develop symptoms. Those who do develop symptoms may experience cough, fever, chills, shortness of breath, muscle aches, headaches, and diarrhea.
Might wanna look up legionaries disease man. Big thing from back in the day no joke. Legionnaires disease
Thanks. But I am not drinking it. Just using it for the animals and garden
Interesting. Nice setup you have. How do you know it’s clean?

Dude don't drink that you'll get Legionnaires disease
Haha I am not drinking that. That is just to water animals and my garden.
The jalapeño on the very right is your hottest one
They’re beautiful! I’m curious how you know when to harvest, especially for dent or flint corn. Do you let it dry on the stalk? Pick it sooner and dry elsewhere to keep wildlife off? Are there bugs or disease that could affect the ear if it were to stay on the stalk until fully dried? I’d love to have a gorgeous stand like yours. First year in with Jimmy red and trying to figure out When to pick
I always prefer to leave them on the stalk to let them dry. But this year everything has been trying to get them. Even the grasshoppers are eating the ears. So i harvested sooner and will let them dry out inside. I picked them when i could tell the plant was starting to die and dry up.
Super sir please plant In india.Harvisting
Best damn plowing video .. thank you sir
What the sigma
For fresh eating?
OMG it's KORN!!! Ratjajyebwkywbanshhahwhahs
Beautiful corn
Did more greens grow after this harvest?
Yes this verity will continue to produce till it freeze or you stop watering.
Like how you planted the corn between the beans. They’ll appreciate that nitrogen 👍👍
What county/area of west Texas? Looks good!
I’ve yet to learn to produce green beans in W.T.
I have tried so many verities. But I have had the best luck with jade bush beans.
Are you on a west Texas fb group?
Yes I am
@@yaima0901 yes I’m
My potatos bever look like this😢
That awsome
Your garden looks so good to be in west Texas! I’m in midland and idk if that’s possible here haha
Yeah y’all’s soil isn’t the best. That is the only thing that saves me. I have good top soil. Plus y’all are a little hotter and dryer.
Get chickens, but you have to keep the chickens out of your garden, or they’ll eat your garden too💕
Wow, that looks great! What all are you doing to or for soil?
Actually my soil is really good. I have good top soil. And I try to crop rotate. So this has no fertilizer or anything. And I added on top some old hay for that was wasted from some goats as mulch. And that has helped with weeds and keep from having to water so much
Did you do anything to prep your soil? I have sandy soil and new to area. Not sure what needs to be done to prep ground for garden around here!
Great looking garden ❤
Thanks this year I am a month ahead of schedule so everything is looking really good
Where are you in west in Texas? I’m in midland!
Up around Lubbock
Water level
Beans, corn and potatoes?! Everything looks great my man. Rock on!
Thanks.
What month did you harvest? I just planted pablanos and anaheim for the first time. (Northern Utah)
I think it was over in October. I harvested some before then. But I usually do a big harvest right before a freeze.
@@westtexashomesteading4624 Awesome, thank you!
Where you be? Looking forward to more west Texas gardening! A 64 y/o fan!
Crosbyton I will posting some more soon. Looking forward to it as well

Hi y’all! I’m from Rotan,TX. Now in Abilene been gardening in West Texas 40 years! Boy it’s a fight for us the wind and triple digits!
What seeds have you started for spring? We are now 8A zone in Abilene,Tx. What zone are u in?
I haven’t started seeds yet. Still haven’t got a good set up for that yet. Hopefully next year I will.
Absolutely amazing to see. Next time you grow futsu leave alot of vine on each fruit, they'll continue to develop and get nutrients from the vine as it slowly shrivels. Not every pumpkin can do that but this one can! It'll help flavor after sitting in greenhouse for awhile. Love to see the success in west tx!!
Thanks. Will do
I just saw that Ambition Strikes installed a unit that collects moisture from the air and you are doing the same thing and cooling your house at the same time 👍
Omg they are so cute my mom has chickens and we love them
Wish I would of gotten as much rain. Had a quick shower yesterday evening as well and then again this morning around 430 in Gaines county.
Yeah but it will be dry again in just a couple of days. Lol. Still it was nice to wake up this morning to every being wet.
@West Texas Homesteading yeah hopefully more will come thus way. my land is pretty dry.
Nice farm !!!!
Thanks. We like it.
It was so crazy. The floor in our shop was covered with dirt. It’s amazing how you capture it. Good video. Thanks.
The video didn’t really capture how crazy it really was.
Nice layers
Hi I’m in Abilene,Texas the place of NO rain! Glad to see a fellow West Texas Gardener and crazy chicken lady here! I’m 64 and always gardening and raising chickens most of my life.
Haha tell me about it. When people who don’t live around here and they complain about not getting rain and it has been like 3 weeks. I just laugh lol. We have a lot of other videos on gardening on our channel. Feel free to check them out
You could divide it up and make the coop in the left side and storage shed/workshop in the right side.
Well what is nice is I have to others much smaller rooms in that same coop. And another shop next to it. I am thinking of turning one into a brooder (as I will be getting more chickens both layers and broilers).
Have my self a 1996 chevy silverado Z71 5.7 been driving it for the last 25 years. You have your self a good truck 😉👍
