The Wave

This skatepark in Santa Cruz, CA, is great for surfskaters and skateboarders alike. This was my first visit to the Wave.
Frontside bertslide progress on a surfskate

Older newbie just discovered that hitting the bank at an angle and using softer, stickier wheels makes it much easier to recover and stay on the surfskate.
Best time to hit the pump track?

After a light rain. This pump track was practically empty when I got there. The family that arrived later told me there were loads of children the last time they came out.

Nice skating, man!
lookin good brah 🤙 you using the yow merakis?
Thanks! Yup, Merakis with G-Bones
Classic. Doing these again is one of my goals for the year.🤙
You can do it! 👍🏽
Very nice ! what is your Yow model ? I have had a Yow teahupoo 34' for a few days
Congratulations! I am using a YOW Malibu (36”)in this video, but eventually learned that I liked the shorter, more nimble Arica (33”) at the skatepark.
This is not a pov bro
Good point. It’s not looking over my shoulder or something like that. I will have to make another one with a true POV. 😜
Spent an eternity there as a kid in the 70's and 80's and was always hating the lack of skate spots....now they build this! ARGGGGHHH!
It’s amazing how accessible skating is now with all these skateparks and pump tracks. Where did you skate back then?
The pay to play spots in So Cal and even in the Bay Area/Santa Cruz.....otherwise schools or home made ramps etc!
You make this look so easy but it's really challenging for n00bs
Impresionante💪🤙
Thank you 🙏🏾
which deck do you have?
This is a whitetail whaleshark deck with meraki trucks
@@See_Virgil_Play thanks. what about the wheels?
@@quickfingers5982I have the qwik truk qlik system so I swap out my trucks (and by default, wheels) frequently. In this video the green front wheels are standard G-Slides and the back is either URA wheels or G-bones 64mm dragon formula.
@@See_Virgil_Playoh wow you mix the sizes? g-slides is 59mm and ura is 65mm?
@@quickfingers5982 yup. I don’t feel any significant difference with the diameters. However, I notice the harder duro on the front makes me unintentionally slip/slide when I carve deep. Softer wheels feel more secure, but aren’t as fast. It’s all about experimenting to find what works for each situation.
Nice one dude 🛹🔥 Where about is this park?
Thanks! It’s Ken Wormhoudt (aka Mike Fox) skate park in Santa Cruz. Let me know what you think of it.

how u ride bairfoot bro
Step 1: remove slippers/shoes and socks 🧦 Step 2: step on surfskate 🦶🏽 Step 3: 🤙🏽 😜
BAREFOOT YOU CRAZY😂
💥🦶🏽💥
Need speed
Good point. That I do.
Easier and more fun without the surfskate
I actually go and do it on foot. Saved me $200.
Nice man, what’s your board setup?
Thanks! Since I have the qwik truck system I mix my trucks a lot. In this case I have a meraki trucks with gslides up front and I think softer wheels in the rear. Deck is whitetail Whaleshark 🤙🏽
Looking great. Where is this? Great park set up. I’m jealous.
Thanks! This sweet park is Fremont Skatepark in northern California. Come check it out if you’re in the area.
Awesome
Roosevelt is a fun park! Skating barefoot is wild haha
It’s got something for all levels of riders. You should try barefoot skating! 😜
Nice!
Thank you! Cheers!
gonna try this next time im out. cool music and affects too!
thanks for watching! Let me know if it works out or how I can improve the notes.
Why change the wheels? Should I use the original wheels? I think you don't know how to use the original wheels?
Hi there. Changing the wheels on a surfskate is a matter of preference. It also depends on the surface we ride on. For example, I'd rather use the original soft wheels on rougher concrete for comfort and grip. The ride felt sluggish in the bowls with the original wheels and I felt like I was working harder to maintain speed. Switching to harder wheels made me feel like i was moving faster and allows me to slide more easily. In regards to not knowing how to use the original wheels-you're probably right.
basic ....
Great. How can I improve my FS snap?
@@See_Virgil_Play smoke more weed and lean back 😊
Are you riding the 64mm dragons?
Yup. They make sliding easy
I need this tip, especially front side 👍
Is that a Team Pain bowl? Looks exactly like the one at my local
Hi. Newark Skatepark was designed by Wormhoudt Inc. and built by CA Skateparks.
Love the added motion to emphasize, thank you :)
Thanks. I need to add sound effects next time :-)
🏄🛹🥣♥👍🏼
Oh...
Oh...
wrist guards and no shoes. interesting
I usually use my hands to slow my fall
If you pay close attention to his shadow, you can spot his massive stick 🍆.
Where is this?
Flood Park in Menlo Park. Let me know how you like it.
Getting good brotha!
I still remember the day I first skated that bowl with you. I barely knew what I was doing!
Awesome
I've got the 64mm Dragons on my Graps setup and I love them!!! So much faster in the bowl and learning slides is so much easier! Keep on shredding!
Totally agree!
Bro i wish i can do that 😂
Just keep trying! You’ll get there.
You're good, man. That's 🔥.
Thanks 🤙🏽. These are fun lines.
Nice park
It’s a great park to play in!
dood, i think i went to jr. high school with you at Montgomery in SD cali. Just started the surfskate thing at the park a few weeks ago. What is your set up? I've got a 15.5" WB carver with CX trucks looking to roll on dragons 64mm 93a.
Sounds like we did go to school together! Did you rock the power mullet, too?😊 I’m using a YOW Arica, 17”-WB with carver roundhouse on the back and dragons 64mm front. I usually use all dragons in my other videos. Let me know if you’re in the Bay Area!
yup, had a mullet with a aquanet pompadour. I'm in the Austin, TX area. thanks for the re-enforcement on getting the dragons. BTW.. you a G for going barefoot and doing rad tail slides. One day I'll get the courage to do that.
@@princea1i3you have to get qwik trucks if you want to swap out your truck+wheels easily
man nao tens vergonha? XD
I don’t mind sharing my progress and think it’s funny at times. 😊
nah bro put some kicks on
🦶🏽
You obviously don’t surfskate
Was not trying to offend anyone just fell like it would hert
@@nahhh237no worries, mate. Barefoot riding doesn’t hurt at all as long as you don’t ollie-or fall 😅
Cool scenery nice flow. Gnarly road surface, you are not one that avoids getting some rash…noice
Thanks! I love the scenery of this area-ocean views and rolling mountainsides. I will definitely use softer wheels next time. The road is rough as you can hear. 🤙🏽
Oh
surfskate moment
🤙🏽
The thousand helmet looks cool, gonna receive mine soon. How do you like yours?
It’s a solid helmet. I like the visor, magnetic clip for the straps, and dial you can use to loosen/tighten the fit. What I don’t like with v1.0 is the minimal ventilation. Version 2.0 addresses this with bigger vents.
Wow man, you ripped off
Thanks! We have to always push on!
Awesome style dude and smooth carving, love the slo-mo !! 👊😃
🙏🏾
spitfires 99 are the best for sliding and still soft enough but not as soft as dragon dragon is perfect for street
I had some Slimeball street wheels on for a very short while and was slipping and sliding all over the place on the surfskate. It felt very icy when trying to pump so I swapped them out. 😉
@@See_Virgil_Play go t to try those wheels at the skate park i tried some kids spitfires and they slide with no effort or strain on muscles
Bert's are usually done frontside
I see a lot of frontside Berts for sure-definitely will share videos of my progress 🤙🏽
Haha nice video, that water is a bi***
Thanks. That last run caught me by surprise. Good thing I was padded up. 😅
