My driver, Paul Westwick, and I participated in this year’s ‘Rush to Gold Bridge.’ Hosted by Classic Car Adventures, the trip was great, as Dave’s events always are. I hope you enjoy watching. Cheers- Matthias

Do you have any route info? Planning info?
I went on komoot and found somebodies route. Wouldn’t recommend it though, a lot was on private property. Il see if I can find it later
8:34 Run Forest Run!!!!
Haha that rabbit sure had a rush
Very cool video... amazing scenery.
i'm usually not super into Porsche, but that 996 raised up on these chunky tires and full of dust is simply beautiful
It’s a blast. Thanks for watching the video!
Awesome job
Thanks! never knew a Jeep could go like that lol
The rug at 8:50 would be the city or Castle’s Coat of Arms. They are proud of that, hence they showing it to you.
What handle bars are you using? Liked the video
Thanks for watching! Surly corner bar
Do you have a gpx file of this nice route?
I can email you one if you would like. I personally wouldn’t say it was an “optimized” route for the trip though. On the morning before I started riding I just went on the app called Komoot and asked it to auto generate a route from the campsite in Chatres to The algarve in Portugal. Then I selected the “touring” option and followed it. Thanks for watching
Darn sausage burgers 🙄
Spanish burger *

Great trip - what kind of air mat did you use when camping? I have seen a few people using an "orange" one...
I used a sea to summit ultra light. It was the lightest mat I could find at Mountain Equipment Co-op. Definitely less comfortable than my previous mat but after a long day of biking they all feel the same.
Nice one! I can see there is so many of us around the Europe and every trip is different :)
Exactly! Thanks for watching 😄
No camping after France? Just hostels? Any trails or mostly road?
60% trail. All Tent, I only did a hostel one night in Spain.
How did you get on with those bars? Not too low?
They are alright, no back pain. (Surly corner bar)
Nice bit of Christian Loffler on your soundtrack.
2:26 who are those thugs in the brown cars
Some type of law enforcement, not sure.
@@matthiaskenton7862 French army in Arquus VT4 cars -nice vid BTW 🙂
I had no idea the Kettle Valley trail starts in Hope. The last half looks a lot nicer.
Yep, and I think it gets a lot nicer after penticton too.
Nice journey and video. Couple of questions: are most roads suitable for a road bike with wide tires ? And what's your experience with car drivers ? I read riding in Portugal is dangerous compared to other countries, which puts me off a little. Cheers !
A lot of those roads felt pretty uncomfortable with my surly ogre that has 29/2.5’ tires so a road bike may not be the best for some areas. Can’t remember how cars were, but definitely don’t copy the same route I did from kommooot as it went through a bunch of private property. Thanks for watching!
@@matthiaskenton7862 whould you choose a Hardtail with front suspension next time?
Where's the other videos?
Hi Jcoats, if you tap on my profile there are a couple more! Thanks for watching

Where was he taking that tree?
Away from its home lol
Wow never boring
Most of France is Boring lol, all Sunflower fields
Well done & congratulations. Although I wouldn't recommend repeating the Coquihalla segment. That road scares me in a vehicle.
Haha, the shoulder may have been a little on the thinner side.
Great journey!
Eventful for sure
Wow love all the different places!
Especially the hospital! lol
Can’t you camp along the way, if it is walked?
Possibly but it has been a while since I did it so I’m not too sure
@@matthiaskenton7862 Thanks. Going solo, I always worry about bears.
@@billpetersen298 I think I ran into one but it ran off before I could see it. Cougars are the real danger but you won’t see them coming. Regardless, nothing to worry about, I don’t carry bear spray.
@@matthiaskenton7862 Last year hiking, I saw nine bears. Mostly on the vancouver island coast.
@@billpetersen298 wow. You are a lucky guy!

@@matthiaskenton7862 okay
Nicely done video. Thanks for including some cameos of my #12 Bugeye.
Look like fun out there, thanks for watching!
This is just great.... and I like the music too!
Thanks Klaus!
A tip if you ever repeat the trip: by taking the ferry at S. Jacinto, you missed beautiful trails along Ria de Aveiro. The road that goes to the ferry is very beautiful, but also not the safest for cyclists. Crossing Varela bridge before takes you to the Ria paths and allows you to avoid most of that road.
Thanks a lot for the information. Will definitely check it out!
@@matthiaskenton7862 there's also a little mistake in the video. When you say you are in Viana do Castelo you're actually showing images of Ponte de Lima. Both are close by in location.
Great job!
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice adventure and nice video ! What a pity you got sick. You have to come back and do some more hard mtb adventures.
Glad you liked it! More to come
That 'dyke looking thing' is part of the Rotary trail loop that runs for 20 km on both sides of that river.
How easy would it be to ride this trail, but drop out in a town to sleep every night, so as to not have to camp? Thanks for the video!
Not too sure due to how remote some of the portions are. I would refer to the route on bikepacking.com and see the pin points they suggest. Thanks for watching
Matthias...how do you storage the bike bag? you carry with you ????
My parents took it and put it in their rental car.
GREAT VIDEO . CAN YOU SHARE MAP ?. I love to go
If you want the detailed map with all the pin points, head to bikepacking.com It’s under “bc trail” Glad to hear you enjoyed the vid!
