Lesson 3: Jinx & The Evil Eye Can telling someone about my good fortune make it go bad? Can their jealousy create problems for my success? It may sound superstitious, but in Jewish thought, there’s a logical reason to be concerned about “the Evil Eye,” and there’s a practical way to ward it off. www.sosaz.org 1/22/2024

There needs to be more conservative jews in America mainly. If you notice Joe Biden is slow to respond. A Republican would already have American troops getting things in order in Lebanon by removing Hezbollah. Also I think the Humanitarian Aid is dumbly too merciful, all that is going to happen is that Hamas is going to steal it and use it for their war. They just extended the whole thing.

Rabbi uses Psalm 22 as an example that the Psalms were only speaking of David himself and have no prophetic value. Rashi gives the prophetic meaning; Sefariacom Rashi on Psalms; Psalm 22:2 “why have You forsaken me? They are destined to go into exile, and David recited this prayer for the future.” Psalm 22:27 The humble shall eat at the time of our redemption in the days of our Messiah.

The documentary. "Lone Samaritan", hinges, on a double standard. The Samaritan men. for genetic reasons and shortage of females. have been marrying anyone they liked, even Christians, for years. But the girls, like Sofi Tzedaka, are denied the same freedom--even though she married someone of the same Mosaic religion. What the Samaritans did to her father, Baruch Tsedaka, is shameful. To believe that parents should have control over their grown children in the 21st Century and are answerable for their actions is both naive and unfair. Also, the Jews are not enemies of the Samaritans. They live together fine in Israel and the Samaritans are not discriminated against. The Samaritans don't celebrate Hanukkah or Purim because they don't feel these festivals pertain to them. They do observe Succoth and, of course, Pesach. The men are very tall and the young ones play a lot of basketball. Also, in their alphabet, the Samaritans have no kind of "h". Strange.

Satmar women only started shaving their heads in the US after World War 2. This was introduced by Yoel Teitelbaum as part of the various measures that imposed ever stricter rules to appease God. As was the introduction of ever-denser tights - the corresponding tights factory was owned by Yoel Teitelbaum himself. Also, Yoel Teitelbaum had claimed all his life to be a survivor of Bergen Belsen in order to give himself some legitimacy as the head of the surviving, and later Satmar, Jews, who very often also came to the US from there. However, he was never a prisoner at Bergen Belsen - he only spent a night there (in a special section, not in the general camp) on his way to Switzerland as part of the transport of Rudolf Kastner, who had "bought" Jews from the Nazis. Just a few examples, there are countless more things to report - all very questionable.

Buenos diyas, Your research is very good, better than most I've seen or read. It's interesting to see the curiosity of others, lol. However, please explain your analysis that Tainos or Portuguese Sephardi descendants are extinct or died off. Is your assumption based on the number of descendants not practicing the religion in Jamaica? Immigration records? Just wondering how you and other foreigners have come up with your assumptions and to be honest many question the motive of foreigners. Historically proximity to a synagogue has been an issue for many on the north coast, many practice at home. Extinction is a harsh label. I would say many Sephardi in Jamaica still like to remain "secret" in plain sight.

This is a fascinating talk. I watched his other interview with Rabbi Shmuly Yanklowitz about slavery and Jews in Jamaica. Just a note though, he's not completely right about the Native Jamaicans / Cubans / Dominicans. Many Jamaicans are ethnically mixed with African, European, Asian, and even native DNA. They didn't all die out, some intermarried - I believe nominally with the Maroons, but perhaps also with the Spanish. I know this, because I am a member of the Jamaican diaspora (both parents, sets of grandparents) with African and European DNA, plus trace amounts of DNA from Natives, Jewish etc. Interestingly my maternal family are from Black River. Jamaica's national motto is "Out of many, one people" - in reference to the waves of arrivals on and cultural diversity of in the island.
