Erasing Ukrainian Identity and Culture
Please join the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission for a hearing on the Russian Federation’s campaign to erase Ukrainian culture and identity in the context of its ongoing war of aggression against Ukraine.
Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, objects and properties with cultural, historical and religious significance for the Ukrainian people - including monuments, theatres, places of worship, cemeteries and universities -- have been destroyed in military attacks. As of July 2024, the Ukrainian government had identified more than 2,000 objects of cultural infrastructure that had been damaged or destroyed by the war. Materials in the Ukrainian language, historical archives and mus...

Im here, watching/listening to this, in 2024... So, needless to say... Wel... Syrians did not, od have not gotten any thing resembling a happy outcome... Yet. Im not gonna try & relitigate anything that anyone did or did not do niw though... I actually wanted to say that I think this hearing (& others I've watched) is really interesting to listen to now - specifically because, as someone who's all too familiar w/ the pro-Assad/pro-Russia & Iran propaganda, and how a network of shills & disinfo peddlers have distorted events & denigrated the Revolution, activists, protesters, White Helmets, LCCs, and FSA - equating ANYBODY connected to Assad's opposition as "terrorists" & "al-Qaeda" or "ISIS"... Sone of the things said in this testimony almost serves to address a lot of the specious claims that paid propagandists & spin doctors have successfully disseminated far & wide among thd public. Its too bad the truth/facts, and evidence, is often pretty buried & unused. (Like these vids, for example.) Ppl could see the upload date, and hear what was REALLY being discussed or planned, and what was REALLY going on in Syria & DC... And they can see that Syrians like these were thinking anout & discussing the various dilemmas & possibilities that Assadists always cite. Like the disunity, the matter of sanctions, military intervention, publuc perceptions, the NATO/UN + Russia/China revealation, the hurdles Syrian opposition faced jst getting their stories/vids out to world, while hiding frm regime i side country thats a police state. Reporting is harder, organizing is harder, shedding liggt on what was going on can & did get ppl killed. (The obstacles & dangers ppl who live under totalitarian dictatorships face is often far beyong what average westerners imagine or comprehend. I think better educating the public on what fears, dangers, threats, concerns, difficulties, risks, consequences ppl face jst trying to speak freely & tell the world about events/etc... And to kearn about the torture, the lack of respect for rule of law, the total absence of rights (which we in the US often take for granted)... Americans, & Global community (teens to 30s, especially) would benefit frm having more awareness of these things which are so different to what we experience or have to deal w/ & think about here. And the fortuitous & cautioning testimonies, which addressed & negates many things that Assadists have claimed (about military aid, direct intervention, diplomatic efforts, sectarianism, etc..). And if presented right that kinda thing COULD be used to discredit those claims, and reveal the true duplicity of Assad's regime. (???)

Talking about human rights in other countries ? How about you cleaning up your American mess before criticising others ? Your democracy is a joke. Voters elect politicians, but as soon as they get into congress they have to obey special interest groups and corporations. Many politicians are becoming millonair in a few years. Lots of bureaucrats also make big money in their 'public service'. The US governments are corrupt as corrupt can be. Human rights in the US are trampled every day. Pease clean up your own room before criticising others.

Plain & simple: India's 80 nuclear bombs acquired through begging bowl technology have gone to India's head. India's drill masters under the direct leadership of master of genocides Modi already banned to enter certain countries, have gone berserk and must be stopped. These fascists cannot swallow the truth. The world must wake up and restrain this rogue country.

Dear TL Human Rights, Few have heard about your excellent commission and work done. Thankyou for reviewing India's poor record of human rights. It is important that India is held to account. I note that this hearing has not been featured in the Indian media. I have though circulated it through social networking. Thankyou for raising the Jammu Kashmir human rights issue. There are many political prisoners who are held on spurious issues. There has been no intervention on these issues and there needs to be. The public are silenced and cannot even campaign or comment here due to the Public Safety Act and behaviour deemed anti-national. Will follow your work with interest. May I suggest that further tweets are sent by yourselves to engage the community who are interested in all issues raised by yourselves. Dr Rita Pal www.kashmirhumanrights.com
