I think the husband did it sorry the only evidence of the sect is from the husband and the 12 year old (then ) who could have been influenced by the husband . The telling to the colleagues but not family is sometimes what you do when your shielding family to the last possible moment before you cross the line of ending a relationship .

A rushed investigation, zero proof, an autopsy that changes with every twist, manipulated witnesses, altered testimonies, not a single trace of Omar Raddad in the boiler room, no fingerprints found, a barely known victim, and no one asking who benefits from the crime… I'm French and I did my own investigation, which I posted on my RUclips channel. Come check it out and let me know what you think! P.S.: The judge is not an Algerian citizen. He's what we call a "pied-noir." ( he was not an Algerian citizen, as the term might mistakenly imply, but rather a French citizen of European descent with a historical connection to Algeria through colonial ties.) I really insist on this because you guys made it sound like it was a Moroccan-Algerian feud between Raddad and the judge, but it was not. It was a French judge who oppressed a Moroccan immigrant.

I tried to listen to the story, but between the free comments here and there and interruptions and slow talking and storytelling, I was unable to finish it. It was much too slow to listen to blah blah, blah, blah, blah, blah blah blah blah that’s what it felt like, so if you want, do it over and speed it up to the story in a normal fashion

I didn't hear it mentioned directly, but it was suspected that the death of Zola (carbon monoxide poisoning) was an assassination, where an Anti-Dreyfusard blocked the Chimney spout. Dreyfus' second and more aggressive lawyer, the one who was shot, wanted to leverage the case to bring down the entire army officer corps and the government; his name was Fernand Labori, and he was also Zola's Lawyer during the Libel trial. It wasn't mentioned directly, but at the time the Libel and Slander laws included a "Press Code" which contained legal restrictions preventing the press from criticizing the army. Jaures becoming the leader of the Socialist party was also significant because the anarchist influenced leaders in the Socialist party saw the Affair as a petty dispute between officers and not a microcosm of the broader class conflict of the political left and right. Jaures helped organize massive rallies of the Working class calling for the acquittal of Dreyfus. Important note on the Political Consequences of the Affair. After Dreyfus is finally acquitted, the army is officially de-Catholicize. Bravo for covering the affair with more detail than others who have discussed it!

The Dreyfus Affair was so divisive because it was seen as a symbol of what French values were to be. Catholic or Secular, Monarchy or Republic, Nationalist or Cosmopolitan, more Unequal or more Equal, in short, Right or Left wing, which expressed itself as Anti-Dreyfusard vs Dreyfusard. The Anti-Dreyfusards were right wing, Catholic, Monarchists, who believed in Nationalism, and believed the Army should be free from Criticism in the Press. The Anti-Dreyfusards drew their political support from the Army, the Catholic Church, and dispossessed Aristocrats. The Dreyfusards were Left wing, Secularists, who believed in the Republic; the Dreyfusards drew their political support from the Working Class, and the Socialist Party played a critical role in mobilizing popular support for Dreyfus among workers. Some notes on details "The Government was being nice to the Army" as mentioned in the podcast, because this affair came only a few years after a Far Right Political movement, which large sections of the Army supported, and the Government was worried about a Coup. A Coup had almost been attempted by General Georges Boulanger. The Plan B, secret file from the War Minister, was put together by "The Statistical Section" (the name is an euphemism, it was counter-intelligence). The Section was, at this point in the story, poorly run, and lead by Colonel Sandherr (who was dying of paralytic syphilis). The story of Dreyfus' escape which resulted in his shackling was believed to be planted by Alfred's brother Mathieu to keep the public attention on the case, in hopes of finding potential political allies. Looking forward to Part 2!

I haven’t heard of this case before yesterday, when I was introduced to Learning GNM or German New Medicine. I haven’t seen the documentary. It's a very sad case. GNM may have never been discovered had this event not occurred.

Joseph Vacher's body was buried at the prison cemetary, but his head was sent to the Dupuytren Museum in Paris. Unfortunately, this wonderful museum closed it's doors. Does anyone know where Joseph's head went after that, and if it is still on display for the punblic?

I know this story so well, it was told to me many times as a child by my French Swiss uncle, Pierre Odier. He told me that he should have been Weidmann's (pronounced Videman) last victim. Pierre had seen an advertisement in a French paper for a job as a hotel manager in France, which he answered by telegramme. It was normal at that time in France to take a dowry or large deposit to show a committment to the post, this was the reason for Weidmann's scam. The day Pierre was due to meet Weidmann was delayed by one day as Pierre had to travel a long distance to get there, but when Pierre eventually arrived at Weidmann's villa it was swarming with police. Pierrre asked what was going on and he was told that there had been multiple murders in the house and the owner had been arrested the day before. Had Pierre arrived on the original day intended he would have been Weidmann's last victim! At the trial the judge asked Weidmann if he had anything to say, Weidmann replied whilst pointing at Pierre 'I just wish I had got Monsieur Odier'. Which would always run a chill down my spine every time he told me the story. I have a video of Pierre talking about it and showing newspaper cuttings when he was in his late 80's. He told us (me and my siblings) that the 'on lookers' rushed forward at the moment of the execution to mop up the blood as a souvenir - just as the French had done during the revolution, which was why they stopped public executions after that.
