Large Decal Installation Top Hinge Dry Method
Large decal installation using top hinge/dry method.
There are a lot of different methods for installing decals. This demonstrates one method for a wall decal. Installation on glass is similar. It is a little trickier because the adhesive is much more aggressive on glass. Once it touches down, it can be difficult to make any adjustments. I recommend two people for larger decals. The second person can hold up the decal while you are removing backing paper, help you lower it down, and hold the decal up off the surface while you squeegee down. This will help avoid bubbles and wrinkles.

Просмотров 3,6 тыс.8 лет назад
Applying Vinyl Glass Etching Stencil to Compound Curved Jar Alternative Version. This version of the tutorial includes cutting the lines apart and applying them one at a time. It makes it easier to get the stencil flat. It does take extra time and you will have to align each piece. Make sure to mask around stencil after application to cover any exposed areas between the lines of the stencils!

Applying Vinyl Glass Etching Stencil to Compound Curved Jar - Compound curved surfaces, just as the jar in the video and wine glasses, can be very difficult to apply a glass etching stencil. Using the techniques in the video will help. It does take patience and trial and error. Trimming around the image will help because you are removing material that is trying to lay flat on a curved surface. ...

Vinyl Decal on Wine Glass

Applying a vinyl decal to a wine glass. It is important to trim around the decal as close as possible and make slits in areas to help with wrinkles. I put two slits in this one but it could have used a couple more above the date as well. You can order vinyl decals from my Etsy shop at: www.etsy.com/shop/KristiStickySigns

Etched Beer Glasses Using StencilPro
K is for Kristi!
I wish I watched this video before I put my vinyl T_T The trimming as close as possible to the text and the slits would have really done the trick for me.
Where can I get a vinyl decal made? I have a company logo in mind that I want made into a vinyl decal so that I can stick it onto a glass globe. Thank You 🙂
You should be able to find a shop on Etsy. I am no longer creating decals.
Does this work with images on decal too?
Not if the image is printed on a clear sheet of vinyl. It will wrinkle. You will want to use a straight sided glass.
New at this, haven’t started yet I am trying to get all the info as possible. I don’t have a circuit machine so I purchased vinyl stickers to start out, do I need vinyl and trasfer tape or just transfer tape?
Hi! It will depend on vinyl stickers that you purchased. Did they come with transfer tape on them?
@@kristinelson2655 I am not home right now I can check then but I don’t believe so
@@kristinelson2655 no they did not. It only says vinyl stickers nothing about transfer tape or transfer paper in the description
@@jennifercalderon2288 I would have to see the stickers to know if it needs transfer tape.
@@kristinelson2655 how could I do that?
What are the brands of the products you used
Oracal 651 vinyl and R-Tape Conform transfer tape
What's the name of that tape u used
Application tape. R-tape Conform is the brand.
Everyone else treats these videos like some kind of performance that takes 20 minutes to explain. Thank you for being so to the point!
You are welcome!
Nice , where can I’m buy that
Hi! Buy the etching stencils? www.etsy.com/listing/174045782/custom-glass-and-metal-etching-stencils
Can you kindly tell me how big your design is on a standard wine glass? Thank you.
Usually 2" x 2" works best if you are new to applying decals to curved surfaces.
Thanks for the tips! ❤
Thank you! This was so helpful!
Thank you for this video. I have a few questions please... 1. How did you get the stencil/vinyl/transfer design? I want to create a design but I don' t know where to start... =[ 2. Where do I get some of that vinyl/transfer-paper? 3. I am trying to etch metal with dc-power and a salt-vinegar mix...will any vinyl/transfer-paper work? Thank you...I'm just kinda lost and I can't do the intricate design that I want to do out of Electrical-Tape
Hi! I design and create the stencils. You can go to my website krististickysigns.com/custom-glass-and-metal-etching-stencils/ or Etsy shop at www.etsy.com/listing/174045782/custom-glass-and-metal-etching-stencils and get more information.
Thank you! This was so helpful.
All that...... unedited video.... that could have been 2 minutes long.....you made me watch it all.... and you don’t even show the result? Wow.... that hurts
will this be dishwasher safe? how do you make it dishwasher safe if it isnt?
No, it is recommended to hand wash the glass once the decal is applied. There isn't any way to make them dishwasher safe. They are just decals.
Yeessss thank you so much. Just ordered a bunch of vinyls for my bridesmaids and can't wait to customize their wine glasses.
Hi can you please tell me where you ordered the vinyl please, im doing my sisters wedding champagne glasses too
@@anafigueroa9635 I ordered mine off of Etsy, search for custom vinyl name stickers/decals :) it’s been so long I can’t remember who I ordered through
What transfer tape are you using?

R-Tape Conform High Tack
Hi. How i can etching quartz without bubbles? Please answer. Thanks.
I am sorry! I do not understand what you are asking. If you mean how to avoid bubbles when applying the stencil, as long as the bubbles are not on an edge where the text is, they will not hurt anything.
Thank you... 🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷
Kristi, is it possible to create these decals without a cricut machine? How do I print my design onto the decal paper?
No, you need some type of vinyl cutter.
Hey, I have my own business and am thinking to use vinyl stickers to label my product. I would be labelling a 1oz black frosted bottle. Can you give me some advice on what I need to buy or any tips whether it would be a good idea to use this method on the black frosted bottles? I am going to be making some face oil. I am not too worried about the vinyl coming in contact with water. Do I need to purchase a special printer for this vinyl method? I would like to do gold metallic decal on my black bottles, so would I purchase the gold sticker paper? You response would be highly appreciated! Thanking you kindly ☺
What vinyl do you use? I have a Cricut and the vinyl is not sticking to my glass.
Oracal 651. Are you using rubbing alcohol to clean the glass first? Make sure it is completely dry.
Kristi Nelson yeah I cleaned the surface. I managed to remove it but it took me a long time to do so. 😓
Oh! I thought you were having trouble getting the vinyl to stick. Not to remove it.
Kristi Nelson oh no lol yeah to place it on the glass. It took me like 20 minutes to finally stick to the glass.
Oh goodness! Could there be some type of film or coating on the glass?

I am sorry! I will need the message translated.
I'm confused I want to start making decals is the vinyl that u apply to clothing different from the one u apply to glass
Yes, they are two very different materials. You use heat transfer vinyl for fabrics.
If I'm gonna start making glasses with lettering on them and sell them. Should I make my own vynil lettering ? Or where can I buy them. With beautiful words like hello beautiful blabla... help lol
If you are going to be making a lot of glasses, you will want to purchase a vinyl cutter like a Cricut or Silhouette. You can get them at craft stores and online.
Thanks a bunch. If I only have the glass. What and what do I need to make the lettering. The vynil. I'm new to this but I'm planning on making them. And starting my own business.
It is best to do some research online for starting a vinyl decal business.
Hello, i like it! Can u tell me which program and printer to make these glasses please? I really need ur help
The decal was created using Adobe Illustrator and a 24" vinyl sign cutter.
Kristi Nelson can u tell the name of ur sign cutter please?😀
Dunno if anyone can help me but the vinyl is full out stuck to the paper and I've used a credit card to try and press it down :( It''s not working.... Any help would be greatly appreciated
Can I find this vinyl decal paper at staples or office max? I’m making some mirror invitations.
You can get decal material at Michael's and Hobby Lobby. You will need a vinyl cutter to cut the design in the decal material. The craft stores also carry the vinyl cutters. If you need someone to create the decals for you, you can contact me through my Etsy shop at: www.etsy.com/listing/118839920/custom-decals
Do you print on this paper?
No, these are cut vinyl decals using Oracal 651 vinyl and a vinyl sign cutter.
How much would you charge for 110 decals?
They all fail to tell you its for decoration only. If you wash in hot water it comes off. So not fit for purpose
If you hand wash the glasses, the decals will stay. It is not recommended to put them in the dishwasher.
If you are using a quality permanent vinyl as used here hand washing shouldn't be an issue. It's not recommended to allow them to soak or use abrasive sponge. This type of vinyl is on our Jeep, on my boutique windows withstanding hot summer days and winter blizzards. Something I did recently learn that may have been the problem, vinyl adhesive has a shelf life. So if it's been sitting in a warehouse and then your craft room too long you may not have the same quality adhesion.
That was good do you have one for a ring I get one side of the ring on and a big bubble it there
Is it one big ring?
How did you measure the compound curve to create the stencil?
I just estimated this one and applied a slight arc to the text. You can figure it by place a straight strip of paper on the glass at the top and lay it flat. You then measure down on both sides to get the amount the line needs to curve. I have a photo demonstrating but am not able to attach it here.
Where do you get the paper to make these wine glass decals? I want to make my own with my silhouette cutter but not sure where to get the paper.
The transfer tape on top of the decal? I get my transfer tape from Sign Outlet Store. You can get transfer tape from anywhere that sells the decal material.
Hi Kristi thank you for your tutorial and all you answers all question below :)
is it dishwasher safe?
No. It is recommended to hand wash glasses paying special attention around the decal area.
Did you use anything to curve your font?
I love how simple and clear cut (no pun intended) you made this! Hopefully I can do an awesome job with my bridesmaid glasses thanks to this video!
How do you get the small font to come off the sheet of vinyl so clean. We are having trouble. Like the letters are not fully cut or something
Hi! Is your decal already weeded so it looks like the decal in the video?
We figured it out thank you for your quick reply. I adjusted the depth and it's weeding much better. Thanks so much
Ok!
maybe I'm missing something but how is this different than from a flat surface?
Hi Holly! To demonstrate, take a piece of copy paper and try to wrap it around a container with compound curves. Notice how it does not lay flat at the top and bottom?
you just make it look too easy. 😆😂😂😂
where do you get the vinyl at?
I create the decals in my Etsy Shop here: www.etsy.com/your/shops/KristiStickySigns/tools/listings/118839920 The vinyl material used to create the decal is purchased from a sign supplier.
Dishwasher Safe?
Hand wash is recommended. Do not soak in hot water or scrub lettered area. I have a couple glasses that I put in the dishwasher as tests and they are doing ok. I have lost a couple dots for the letter i but the lettering is really small on that particular one. To be safe, I would hand wash.
Will it be scratched off by nails? Or do you have to add final touch? Like clear coating on decal surface or heating the decal? Thank you.
Is the vinyl permanent or do you have to seal it?
The vinyl I use is for outdoor application on signs and vehicles. It has what is called a permanent adhesive. But, they are just stickers and the letters are usually pretty small. It is recommended that you hand wash the glasses paying special attention to the area where the decal is applied as heat will soften the adhesive and the wash cloth can snag on it and peel it off.
Thank you so much!
Can you seal it with something?
Kaidrea Stockman It doesn't need to be sealed. Just washed carefully.
Kristi Nelson hi maam what kind of sticker paper did you used?
What font did you use
Zakia
Ok Thanks
Hello where did you find that font from
Kristi, what type of transfer paper do you use - looks beautiful!
I use R Tape Conform
Hello, What equipment did you use to make the vinyl ? e.g printer, type of paper ect
It is the machine you see in the background, a vinyl sign cutter.
What paper did you use?
The top cloudy layer is transfer tape. It allows you to pick up the entire decal at one time.
Thanks I have the most difficult time applying some of these for my bridesmaids . This is very helpful
Where did u get the vinyl leters
I made them! I have an Etsy shop at: www.etsy.com/shop/KristiStickySigns

+Kristi Nelson did u makin different saying like "hello gorgeous" just small sayings
Yes, I can make different sayings. All of my decals are custom made. There are limitations to the size of letter I can do and the intricacy of the font.
+Kristi Nelson how much the 2inch of hello gorgeous im going to put on my acrylic brush holder
Where did you purchase the decal from ?
