I have this headcanon that because they were litterally born from a wish that costed their mother, each twin has a half of her soul. Basing off of that, and assuming she and the king would be into a threesome to marry Miranda, I think Sofia and Roland's first wife would have been very good friends.

I don't understand why James didn't want her to be queen. She was clearly born into the role. The boy on the other hand is too chaotic, he makes a much better man for the military. I know he's not exactly a graceful loser, but I didn't expect him to be that greedy. He never seemed into royalty stuff before, unless it involved adventures (which is why I'm pretty sure he'd hate being a peasant over time, since he'd lack the money to satisfy certain urges and thrills).

Another thing I noticed is the evolution in her dress. It's simpler than Sofia's. When it comes to jewelry, Amber focuses more on her tiara than anything. I think that showcases her self-confidence, and how it's tied to her status. But as the dress gets more pompuous, it shows how Amber starts relying less on her status for her confidence, probably relying more on her own talents, which in her case, are related to fashion and decoration.

While she is definitely (one of) the most iconic character(s), I can understand why she wasn't the protagonist. She didn't really have a mindset of a challenger, someone willing to get a plot in motion and shake the story up. That's why she needed Sofia. The pseudo-princess helped her open her horizons in order to begin her journey into queenhood. Just like Sofia needed Amber's confidence to find herself. Find her own meaning in life, instead of trapping herself to routines. I'm ALWAYS up to a good story between siblings.

I really like how in spite of how contrasting they were, Sofia never actually tried to get Amber to change her entire personality (unlike other shows, in which apparently getting humble equals losing the charisma), because deep down, she does look up to Amber as an actual older sister. Yes, Amber learned to be humble, but the show never implied she was anything else but a queen in the making. She had the patience of an older sister, the care of a good friend and the eye and will to impose order. She simply needed to learn to be a kid too, because a good queen is always in touch with those around her.
