STUDIO VLOG #1┃🎪 designing characters and starting a business as a 22yr old artist ✨❤️
Having recently graduated with my MFA is the best thing that could have happened to me, but it's also the hardest point in my life. I struggled a lot deciding what kind of artist I wanted to be and ultimately came to the conclusion that I just wanted to be happy and make art. Follow along my journey as I establish myself as an independent artist and start a small business selling my silly little creatures.

Making A Plein Air Box┃DIY POCHADE BOX
Просмотров 4003 года назад
Hello friends, I apologize for the lack of uploads recently, but I am back with a new video showing how I made this pochade box! It's great for taking outside to do some plein air paintings. There are slots to hold your wet panels and space to fit all your paints. I looked at many different designs and took bits and parts of each to create my own. While I am in no way shape or form qualified to...

    that is a really interesting project, a lot of work. its not something you see around much any more, prob due to people being too lazy to make one lol

    • @sarahlorito
      @sarahlorito 3 года назад

      Haha yes, maybe because people these days are interested in products being delivered to them the next day. With sites like Amazon it is so easy to buy something and have it in your hands tomorrow. To take the time and put work into something, though, is a completely different experience. I feel it is much more rewarding when you put hours into something you love and have the result pay off for all that hard work. It gives whatever you're making a personal touch as well. Thank you for your comment, it's an interesting topic to discuss!

    • @fuzzydragons
      @fuzzydragons 3 года назад

      amazon and streaming services def play a big part in the 'now' culture which is a shame because I agree, working on something and spending the time on it can be so rewarding. its a good feeling when you see the finished project and know that you made that and can be proud of your achievement. Having said that, its often the quick painting projects that I end up liking more than the ones that take me weeks to do lol

    • @sarahlorito
      @sarahlorito 3 года назад

      @@fuzzydragons That's true, there is a time for everything. It's good to have a balance- having quick projects to do or getting something shipped is a time saver (especially if you need whatever it is within a certain date), but it's also good to slow down once and a while and make something you truly love. I like both personally. Quick diys and projects are less pressure and fun, but I also like putting my time and attention to all the small details of something that will take me a bit longer to complete. It just depends on the project and your time ^^

    I'm thinking of getting myself the himi gouache set, but I'm wondering what you think of them? Would you recommend?

    • @sarahlorito
      @sarahlorito 3 года назад

      Yes! They are a great starting place for anyone interested in gouache. They are highly pigmented and very opaque compared to other student grade gouache. They come in fairly large "jelly cups" as well, which means you are getting a lot of paint for your money's worth. Since they are so large the paints take a long time to dry out, but once they do you can spray some water in each cup and let it sit overnight. After you mix the water in, the paints will be reconstituted and back to the same consistency as you first purchased them. Color mixing is relatively easy with them too as they do not get muddy after mixing multiple pigments together. As for any negatives, they aren't archival and don't have any lightfast information. Overall they're a great set for wanting to learn the medium and you won't feel hesitant to experiment a lot (since you get so much paint in the set). I hope this was of some help to you and let me know if you do decide to purchase them!

    1:00 ...that's literally left-over Christmas wrapping paper.

    • @sarahlorito
      @sarahlorito 3 года назад

      Choosing Keeping uses large sheets of paper and cuts it down to size when wrapping each item. It is natural that there would be off cuts since each sheet of paper can't always be divided evenly in order to wrap the respected items. They reduce excess waste by combining the off cuts to create a larger sheet to wrap. I think in that regard it has it's own appeal ^^
