Hi. I'm planning to do pretty much the same work on my 74 Charger. During my research i found your RUclips channel by chance. I really enjoy watching your videos. My grandpa used to run a dodge dealership back in the 1940's to early 70's near Pittsburgh PA and my dad grew up with all those incredible cars of the muscle car era.. I was born and raised in Bavaria, Germany. My Charger was born in Detroit, raised in South Carolina, underwent a full restoration in germany and is not getting tired of showing all those european plastic cars that there is no replacement for displacement.😂 Kind regards...

When I pulled my bumpers in I worked on a gap of about 3/8 - 1/2 inch between the bumper and body at the top and the sides front and rear (i.e. significantly larger than your cardboard thickness). However I found this enabled perfect line up of the bumper profile and the body line from the side view and this gap is about what the factory did for the 71 and 72's. I also noticed a too large gap between the rear valance and the bumper so I just elongated the valance bolt holes and was able to lift the valance enough to reduce the gap so it was consistent with the gap at the top (from memory I may have had to bend the ends of the valance out a little so that they lined up with the quarter panel perfectly). Overall still an excellent outcome notwithstanding the larger gaps and a lot less work 👌👌👍👍
