I went to a Japanese-immersion elementary school and every year, each class would fold 1000 cranes and ship them to Japan. In 5th grade, we got the chance to go to Japan and visit the statue of Sadako, where there were display boxes stuffed full of folded cranes from schools around the world.

My art teacher made us do this specifically my class so like every art class we just went back to folding cranes and now it’s hardwired into my brain

I heard the story about the 1000 cranes and made it for my second eldest sister for a wedding gift and told her that she now got a wish…was in freshman year of high school and heard from my family’s friend that the brides fold to be calm and also to gain the wish and once done they take it to an artist who makes characters or creatures out of it.

I remember hearing a story about a family who made paper cranes so they could wish that their family member who had been in a radioactive accident would get better but sadly the man who they were wishing to get better died months later(I don't remember his name but if you do please tell me for more info he was Japanese and was one of the first to live for a long time with radio active poisoning and with a crazy amount of damage to his body)

i would wish for the power to extend lifes i have been struggling at school and life for 2 years so far and my dog has been there the whole way when i felt down she would like know that i was sad i swear and she allways cheered me up so i want to be able to spend more time with her

I did something similar with paper stars, i made 1000 and presented them to my girlfriend on her birthday in a star shaped jar and a poem of my dedication and love. Its been a year since and We're engaged now.

How to make it?

Sadako and the 1000 cranes is a beautiful story; it also reminds me of Hisachi Ouchi and his radiation sickness in which his family, to an extent, lived in the waiting room of his hospital folding paper cranes. I'd recommend checking out Wendigoon's video about it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think all of the cranes are still in the hospital where Ouchi died.

I would wish to be able to hold my cat one last time. It's been 4(almost 5) years since I saw her before she was killed. If I couldn't wish for that, I would wish to be able to talk to my ex best friend one more time. I just want to ask him what I did wrong that made him hate my guts, I just want to fix whatever my mistakes was so it won't happen again and to learn from it.

When I was 12, a boy in my class got encephalitis(a brain disease). The whole class folded 1000 cranes in just 3 days, many of them didn't sleep much an even ask some teacher to end class sooner or even help us in the whole lesson. Just 1 month ago, he has recovered and started school again. It was a bit sad that he have to stay in 7th grade, he is a smart student, probably one of the smartest.

when i was in 4th grade we did this, but each student had to make around 16 to make the 1,000 paper cranes. i don’t really remember what it was for though

I made abt 43 last year and gave up, but i was genuinely just making these everywhere: i prepared some small paper squares before going to school and kept them in my pocket, making like 2-3 cranes per class and rarely during recess These things are actually pretty easy to make, i got the trick from just looking up an instructional picture and it was not hard to understand it
