I spent almost two years at Fairbridge Farm School near Pinjarra (1970 - 1972). It was simply terrible.
Hi Simon. 5 years ago I had never heard of Fairbridge. I since found I had two uncles and an aunt who went to Molong. Since this discovery i have read and watched as much as I can to understand the experiences of the children to know what life was like for them. As you have confirmed the experiences of most was terrible and the ones who thought it was ok simply knew no better. This video I made was my parents and I travelling to Australia for the first time to meet with my aunt and her family so they could take us around Fairbridge Farm School in Molong to get a feel for where my uncles grew up (my Mom never got the chance to meet them as they had both died by the time we discovered them). It was awful how most of the children were treated.
They are good fun. They are performing again at the Electric on Friday 3rd April as they are having a party night to celebrate the release of 'The Boat That Rocked' and the fancy dress theme is Smashie and Nicey 'charidy' DJ's. Ill see if I can get some video.
