Christmas Light and Community Tour Pictou, Nova Scotia
Просмотров 21219 часов назад
I find Christmas is an especially great time to just kick back and check out another community through video. Here’s a snapshot of Pictou, Nova Scotia on the Sunday night before Christmas. It’s a Christmas light tour, but also a little look at heritage homes and snow covered trees.

Caribou to River John - Looking for the Buoys/ Christmas trees made of fishing buoys.

Starting at the fishing pier, at the dock for the ferry to Prince Edward Island, we’re headed toward River John. We stop at fishing piers along the way, looking for the illusive Christmas tree made from those buoys. Gorgeous pre Christmas drive.

Part 4 of the Moose Brook road trip. A quick scoot through Truro by the back roads.
Selma to Truro via Brookfield - Exploring Nova Scotia Backroads
Просмотров 60814 дней назад
Part 3 of our Truro to Moose Brook round trip. Here we deviate from the usual route and take a road that is new to me, the road from south Maitland to Brookfield. From Brookfield, we take the back road to Truro, opting for the scenic route. I decided to chop the end off and publish it as a stand alone because it’s really a bit of a tour of Truro/ outskirts of Truro and this video was a bit long...
Selma to Moose Brook,REPOST! Better quality download. I’m working on it!
Просмотров 12014 дней назад
This IS the same video I just released, but I’m seeing if the quality is better. I film in 4K - always - I download and give RUclips time to convert the quality to 4K (ie, I schedule it to launch a day later) but, still the quality is hit and miss. So… one more try. Cross your fingers - cause who wants to see low quality Nova Scotia? We’re here for the scenery!!
Onslow to Maitland - Exploring Nova Scotia’s Backroads

A beautiful early December drive along a lesser travelled route. Between Truro, Halifax and the Annapolis Valley there is a huge triangle of land that lacks major highways and has no large communities = perfect. We’re driving up along the top of this triangle, along the Southeastern shores of the Bay of Fundy.

Красотища!!!
Wow! Even in Nova Scotia there isn’t much snow! And, yes, Happy New Year. Thank you for screening!
@@scottpardee6303 Happy New Year to you too!
Happy new year 2025 ...
Happy New year to you too 🎆
Snow can be risky, but it can also be beautiful. Thank you for screening!
It is definitely a skill and the right equipment (good snow tires) is essential IMO. Thanks for watching!!
AWESOME KEEP UPDATING 😊 😊
Thanks 🤗
Cheers.
You should have gone up towards Cedar Street, where I live. There are lots of Christmas lights up all along all the side streets like Maple Street, Oak Street.
Darn it! I’m sorry I missed that. I will keep that in mind for next year. Thanks for the intel!
Beautiful......merry Christmas 🤶🤶
Merry Christmas to you too!
great but ....set your camera position slightly on the upper side
Unfortunately, it's kind of stuck until I get a new set up :( which is in the plans but not happening yet. Thanks you for watching!!
beautiful
@@shank2329 thank you!
Very beautiful girl and car)))
Thank you!
A few signs of snow, but nothing serious yet. Thank you for screening!
Tomorrow we’re supposed to get 10-15 cm… should be white for a day or two lol.
Amaizing)
Thank you for watching!
awesome
Thanks so much 🙂
Please consider captions very difficult to hear over ambient noise
Yeah, I was thinking I must mic up. Apologies. Thanks for watching though, and thank you for the comment. Much appreciated.
Much better quality picture. Nothing in Nova Scotia is low quality. Perhaps you could aim the camera just a tad lower. Thanks.
Thanks for watching and for your comment! The problem with aiming lower is that the camera likes to focus on the windshield wiper, which leaves the scenery as a blurry background
@@escapetoAtlanticCanada2019 Got it. Nice work. Burnt Coat Head is the site of the highest tide in the world. 54 feet.
@@patrickcarey393 The Bay of Fundy, the entire region, is the home of the highest tide - I believe - so is Burnt Coat the highest of the high? It's interesting.
@@patrickcarey393 wow, yeah, you're right. Still haven't found the intel on why it's called Burntcoat www.burntcoatheadpark.ca/about-us/
"A seemingly minor incident is the source of the name: a farmer's coat caught fire after he left a pipe in his pocket!" it does conjure some old-timey visuals
Sounded like you had a guest in the background I always thought you did those drives alone but an other great video and view
@@freddybannister4355 I didn’t lol. I did have an orange I pealed and ate - and I remember struggling out of my big winter coat mid drive lol
Yes, I did drive part of this route. I was intrigued by the Bay of Fundy at low tide. Thank you for screening!
It is a fascinating area. Thanks for watching.
Great video. The improvement in the rural economy in the Maritimes over the last 25 years is impressive. I believe there even is a new barn in Old Barns. So nice to see many of the old cedar shingle houses with new siding and new metal rooves and very few old unimproved homes.
There is new construction and new businesses in the area, but the character of the area has been preserved. Thank you for watching !
beautiful drive
Thank you!
awesome
Wonderful! The fall colors are beginning to emerge. I never reached this area, so it is great to see it now! Thank you for screening!
Thanks for the drive by. My wife and I just bought a property along there but no Google maps street view and we hadn't seen it yet😅. Thank you for the tour 😊
That’s hilarious! Glad to help 😁
Yes, my wife and I took the ferry to PEI and back. I don’t remember it well, but it is moving to see this. Thank you for screening!
Thanks for watching and for commenting!!
When are you doing some trips to New Brunswick
I am really hoping to do some trips there soon.
@@escapetoAtlanticCanada2019 there’s all kind of roads to travel on and do posts bout where I am down in fundy park all kinds of beautiful side roads to see
@@escapetoAtlanticCanada2019 if you had Facebook or something I can send you locations of spots to check out in New Brunswick
Are there particular areas in New Brunswick you want to see?
@@escapetoAtlanticCanada2019 I’m form New Brunswick I’m just staying there is a lot of good places around you would love to drive and see
Hey, is it West River Station you are driving from?
It’s actually Central West River where I started. I’ve done a video where I drive down to West River Station. Nice country down there.
I can only dream of going back to drive there now, so these trips are ideal for me. Lovely countryside with amazing cloud formations. Thank you for screening!
Thanks, glad you’re enjoying them.
Hello! Very nice drive. Nice day cause the clouds not moving much! Makes for great views!
It was a lovely drive. Thanks for watching!
@@escapetoAtlanticCanada2019 ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💯💯💯
Another mesmerizing drive. I wish we had come back and explored more. Thanks for screening!
Thanks for watching!
Do you ever drive through salt springs?
There are a couple in Nova Scotia. Do you mean the one just outside New Glasgow?
@@escapetoAtlanticCanada2019 Yes i believe it is just outside of New Glasgow. There is a cemetery there called Oak Grove cemetery.
I do drive around the area and have been through. I’ll check that out.
I see it on Google maps. I have driven by there, but it’s not visible from the road.
@@escapetoAtlanticCanada2019 Do you by chance meet people in that area with the surname Fraser?
This is indeed the right way to go. Thank you for screening!
Thanks!
Yes Beth, at 2:14 it's the white house on the right. but I guarantee the barns are not there but the big tree (oak?) is there. I'll have to dig it out but the house on the left and garage aren't in the postcard.
There are a bunch of barns there, but it’s a pretty modern operation, likely the old barn is gone. I went by there in my Dean to Durham video too. I don’t know if there’s a better shot in that one.
@@escapetoAtlanticCanada2019 I found the card and scanned it. The only barn is the old one and no house or garage on the left side of the road.
I’ll take a closer look next time I’m through. I’m on my phone and I don’t see the image - if you were able to post it - I’ll check on my laptop soon.
@@escapetoAtlanticCanada2019 not sure how to post the scanned postcard. technically challenged.
I don’t think you can, or we have the same level of technical challenge-ment lol
Was going through some boxes of photos after my mother passed many years ago. Found an unused postcard of a house in Greenhill. Searched on Google Earth and found it. Told my wife that someday, we're going to drive there and see if the people there would like to have it.
Oh, cool. Too bad you can’t share an image of it? That would be neat to make that connection.
Can't post the photo postcard on RUclips. On Google Earth the Green Hill Road takes a sharp right hand turn where it meets the MacLean Rd and MacDonald Hill Rd. If you go to ground level on that curve and look down the road you'll see barns on the right and the house a little further.
July 3, Alma to East Earltown video, I drove right by there. Give it a look!
Along with everything else, the cloud formations in the first half of the drive are mesmerizing. And look at the cornfields! The farmers must be happy with this summer. Thank you for screening!
I agree. Thank you!
my Great Grandmother came fy there,I don't know when or what City
Cool
What is the capital of Nova Scotia?
Halifax
I’m back. Beautiful. Thank you for screening!
Welcome back! Thanks for coming 😁
I never had the chance to return to Nova Scotia, so these are marvelous opportunities to see what I have missed. Thank you for screening!
Thanks for watching!!
Hello again my friend! Such a cool video. That's why I come back for more!
Thanks Trail Strider 👍🏻
Some of my father's family is buried in moose brook. He was born there and grew up across the road from where you stopped. Can I ask when this was?
Hi, That is a beautiful part of the world. That drive was early December 2023. Not certain of the exact date, but it would have been within a couple of days from when I published on December 9. Hope that helps.
@@escapetoAtlanticCanada2019 thanks! He passed away a couple of years ago, and the reason I asked was, I know he set up a trust for maintenance of the chapel and cemetery, and noticed the condition of the chapel itself. His parents, grandparents and I think great grandparents are buried there. Thanks again for the reply
I often wonder about these old graveyards. Many of them are in very good shape, but there are so many little white churches across Nova Scotia that sit empty.
Yes, another mesmerizing drive. When I drove up into Breton Island, I heard people talking Gaelic, I guess. I would like to stop on this route to see what language people speak here. Fascinating. Thank you for screening!
Thank you again! There are also regions where the primary language is French. There are pockets of language and culture throughout. I’m hoping to do some Cape Breton Island trip very soon!!
I have just mentioned this screening to Kieth Bradley, who has his own postings, “Going Cruising in Vermont with Kieth” of which he has posted 556 trips. I hope the two of you can make contact since you share a commitment to showing the beauty of your surroundings.
I will check that out. Thanks
Wow! Back in the late 1980s, my wife and I spent a vacation in Nova Scotia. Thus included three drives north, one to cross over to Prince Edward Island, another northeast to Cape Breton Island, and the third west to Yarmouth. Each of them mesmerizing. So, although we did not cover this route exactly, it has many familiar qualities. Thank you for screening! I hope to watch more of these drives.
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it. I post Wednesdays and Sundays and am always working to improve the quality.
@@escapetoAtlanticCanada2019Compared with so many postings I have seen by other drivers, this is perfect. Everything is clear. The route is mesmerizing. And you do not get hung up in traffic. I hope other viewers agree.
This is my home town were i grow up for most of my life
nice to watch your videos when I'm stuck here in Niagara Falls. my property is in westbranch. does your sister go with you for your drives
@@RodMac1 hi, thanks. West Branch is lovely. How come you are stuck in Niagara?
i go there every day, you pass our cottage /which is the yellow one with the gazabo across the road
Very nice!
Love this village. But let's be honest; people come here for the best beer in Nova Scotia. Tata Brewery!
True that!
It,s new lairg
Thanks
my dad requested this drive! thanks so much for showing him the area again, i know it means a lot to him to see it! great video :)
No problem at all. It was my pleasure.
