"The Effenaar capacity was at that time around 500, I think on the 18th there were about 300-350 people. My god, that must be Barney’s home built Powertran Transcendent 2000 synth, which sounds quite out of place here. Very harsh and monophonic, like an angry Dalek. Thankfully he later switched to the famous ARP Omni 2, which was to be used on the Atmosphere single.

There was a rumour for years and years that some video recording exists from JD's Leigh performance. Who knows, maybe it's buried deep underground. Either way, the festival was heavily audio taped, Echo and the bunnymen's appearance is just legendary. Certain ratio also puts the mood in high gear. Grand festival it was.

I am by no means an expert regarding repairing speed in audio recs, but this sounds a bit slower than it should be. Other than that, like what you did with the mix, Barney's guitar is now more upfront on this. Still waiting for the day when I will hear this version of Interzone from the french Inter radio station recording, although the audience recording is in very good quality. Cheers and keep up the good work Dann.

Sublime. Sounds great to my ears, speed is just right, every instrument is about evenly present and Ian's vocals are clean and sharp. Some copies were put too much through audio compressor, not this one, and that's a good thing. What source did you use for this one, 2010 DAT? Thanks a million.

I don't think it was equipment issues, I think they didn't bring any synths or Ian's guitar. First gig after the Closer sessions, under-rehearsed, mindfulness of Ian's worsening health...they probably wanted to keep the setup quick and easy, this time. They'd bring Ian's guitar and synths at the following Moonlight Club show and Rainbow Theatre on the 4th though. At least the result is this unique version of "LWTUA," an extended version of "Colony" with all the primary verses, a banger "A Means to an End," and a rare "Sister Ray."

I am very sure, this audio is a complete scam. I am a musician and Joy Division fan since decades and I know a lot about music production, effects etc. This audio is just ridiculous and has nothing to do with Hannett. It’s just a demo version of digital low pass filtered with some very cheap reverb effects, Hannett would never have touched these effects. This is not to criticise the uploader, who might know nothing about music production and engineering, but these „bootlegs“ are cynical attempts to make money with the Joy Division brand. There is nothing rare or unpublished here to listen to, just idiotic manipulation of existing material. If only these idiots would have a little talent in what they are doing😎

Not sure how you got this track, many thanks. I do remember a bootleg cassette going around with a few outtakes from this session in 1980.
