    What about the example of being very unexpectedly amygdala hijacked in public, like being cut off in traffic, unexpectedly (verbally) attacked...etc. That's a completely different scenario to dealing with people you know. I thought of an idea of keeping 'thank you' cards in my pocket and going out into the public or for walks in the city, and whenever i (inevitably) experience triggers, like rude or unfriendly people in public, i would (imaginatively) hand them a 'thank you' card, until I've confused my amygdala enough to stay calm in unexpectedly triggering situations. I wonder if that would work.

    • @philcicio
      @philcicio Год назад

      Isaac, I really like your idea. When we are hijacked like that, we go into the fight, flight or freeze mode. We don't know which will happen. Once we are in it, it is challenging to come out of it. A few deep connecting breaths can get you grounded and bring your prefrontal cortex back online so you can rationally work your way through the situation. Using your idea I feel can work, if you can get yourself there before being taken over by the hijack. The other thing I would work on, is not getting hijacked in the first place. Realize that everything that happens outside of you, like getting cut off in traffic, just is until you give it a story. The story you give it is what generates the emotion and anxiety. The anxiety is from time traveling into the future with a negative outcome. It is difficult, but being able to stay in the present will help you think and respond and help get you out of the situation better. Let me know how your idea works, I believe it can! Thanks for reaching out.

    My issue is trading in the futures market where I close my position early because I get scared out of my position. Or I'll close early when it hasn't hit my Profit target yet because I'm afraid of losing my gains

    • @philcicio
      @philcicio Год назад

      I'm not an expert on trading, however trading scared may be from investing money you are afraid of losing. When risking something you don't want to lose, your brain perceives this as a threat and you go into the hijack. When your in the amygdala hijack, it is difficult to reason and think. You are operating from your emotional mind not logical mind. When investing, I would want to be using logic. Maybe try trading next time witha small amount of money you can afford to lose without it having a significant impact on you financially. Take note of how you think and make decisions with this trade that is less threatening. I'd bet you will make more logical decisions. Of course trading is risky and you could still lose your money, the difference is that you will understand and learn since you made those decisions logically and not while being emotionally hijacked! Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

    • @philcicio
      @philcicio Год назад

      Hi Carlos, I'm glad you enjoyed my message, thanks for watching and your question. I believe it is a great sign when you update your supervisors and they delegate more work to you. One caveat thought, does the work they delegate to you tend to empower you more than often than not, or does it feel like they are just dumping work on you since you have given them the opportunity? If the work empowers you, embrace it! It shows they trust you and value your competence. Also, if the added work overwhelms you, you need to let them know. Most managers don't realize when someone on their team is overwhelmed, don't make the assumption that they know. They simply may not be aware. You are obviously a valued employee or they wouldn't be asking you to do more. I certainly wouldn't delegate to an employee I can't trust to get it done and get it done well. Look at your situation from a different perspective and if you really feel like it is time to say no to the additional work, then you need to do this professionally. I hope this helps!

    Micromanagement= Incompetence who denies, sabotages the skills and talents of other group members out of fear of being replaced or exposed for lack of lidership! Simplier: I am not willing to be open to new, better ways of achievement because it took me time to convince the organisation that my way works...even though I know it isn't! I dont have the energy, time to start new. So I will do everything on my power to control others approach and progression because I choose to be stagnant and self-righteous! Narcissism

      Thanks for reaching out. Anytime there is uncertainty, we create a story to fill in the "Uncertainty Gap". In other words, when we are about to do something for the first time, we mentally time travel into the future and create a story of how this is going to turn out. If we have had experiences in the past like you suggested, setbacks, the story will be in alignment with the setback and therefore be negative. Even though it's just a story about the future, the brain doesn't really know that. Your brain thinks it is actually happening now! This is why we get anxious, nervous or stressed. The chemicals like cortisol get released due to the story. In order to feel better, we often decide to not do the thing we wanted to do, because that is the easiest way to reduce the anxiety. Of course, we may feel better temporarily, but we just diminished our self esteem. You need to work on trying to stay present rather than time traveling into the future. Let the uncertainty of the future unfold and deal with it in real time. This takes practice, so be patient. When you are in a story that doesn't serve you, try to recognize it and bring yourself into tbe present moment. There are lost of ways to do this like breathing techniques. You can look for ways online. Here is a video of mine that may help. ruclips.net/video/RNBNDTLqy9Y/видео.html. A great book I would recommend is The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. Here is a link to Eckharts Instagram. instagram.com/eckharttolle?igsh=ZDNlZDc0MzIxNw== . I hope this is helpful!

    Interesting to note that we are still here as a species because of how this mechanism evolved. Our ancestors didn't have time to rationalise if there was a tiger in front of them. Those that did died and don't pass on their genes! It is a wholly automatic process and comes before we have time to think. Evolutionary mismatch: our brains evolved for an environment that we no longer inhabit. A large part of being a functional modern human is recognising and controlling our animalistic tendencies/impulses.

    I have been in leadership, here is my thoughts. I have never worked for an organization that prepared their leaders for the person to person interactions and how best to navigate the complex world of relationships to benefit everyone. It is an overwhelming task with many variables. It's pretty much a sink or swim situation. Those leaders that meet organizational goals will last, and those that do not fail. Don't forget that your boss is more replaceable than you are ;)
