NM United - National Anthem - Michael Metz (05/25/2024)
Просмотров 475 месяцев назад
You have to be a very brave person to stand in front of a New Mexico United home crowd and play the Nation Anthem solo. All eyes are on you and if you think I wasn't nervous you are very wrong! I am proud of this particular performance and I got a very big roar from the crowd and nice compliment from the owner, Peter Trevisani after I was done. Somos Unidos! Let's talk about everything trumpet!...

Lets Talk: The Deluxe Salt Shaker Mute by S-Mute I was in the market for a Pixie Straight Mute when I came across this Deluxe Salt Shaker Mute by S-Mute. I saw a couple of short reviews on it and I thought I would give it a try. This is my video review of that mute. Sometimes we play at venues and private parties that are really small and I need to keep the volume down without sacrificing sound...

Lets Talk: The Pixie Cup Mute by S-Mute I was in the market for a Pixie Straight Mute when I came across this Pixie Cup Mute by S-Mute. This is my video review of that mute. I play a couple times a month at a Speakeasy that is really small and I need to keep the volume down without sacrificing sound and not feeling like I had a five pound weight attached to the end of my bell. This mute fit the...
Lets Talk: About Hearing Protection
Просмотров 508 месяцев назад
Let's Talk about Hearing Protection Whether you work in loud environments or are subjected to them as a musician you should protect your hearing no matter what. This is something I learned back in the 90s and it continues to this day. In this video I discuss four different brands of hearing protection and my opinions of each. This is not a "all inclusive" list, these are just the four I own. My...

Someone You Should Know - An Interview with Vocalist/Bassist - Wendy Beach
Thank you for doing this interview. Listening to Kim play was what got me started on bass when I was 14 and I stuck with it all these decades later. I still don't know what I'm doing, but slowly improving as I go and grateful for the opportunity to play live a couple times a month and started helping youngsters to be introduced to bass through workshops. I pulled out my first bass the other night (a Squire P-Bass I bought from my brother's buddy for $100) and fixed one loose wire on it and it sounds better than ever and that's the one the kids use to try out bass, I have super light Funkmaster strings on it too for their little hands. Thanks Michael and thank you Kim!

Very nice. 👍🏻 ❤
I so enjoyed hearing this interview! Being a student of John's back in the mid to late 80's and remembering him talking about Sante Fe and how health foods and well being was pretty much a way of life there. John is an extraordinary drummer, to hear and watch him play is just a special treat being a former student of his. I was a challenge for John being a hard rock/metal drummer and I drove him crazy! But John instilled in me how important technique and dynamics are. I know it made me a better drummer and enabled me to actually develope my own sound and style. Great great memories and this interview was such a treat. Thankyou for posting this! Staten Island drummers still talk about John and how we miss him being closer to home to see and hear his performances. All the best and Cheers!!
Great player - better person. 🤘 ^v^
Hi, If you don't mind me asking, what model flugel do you use? I just picked up a Yamaha.. my first flugelhorn. First horn I've picked up in 45 years. k
I use a Yamaha YFH-635T. It is the predecessor to the 6310Z Flugel. It was designed by Bobby Shew.
@zmmetz Thanks. Sounds good.
Nice review. I'm thinking about buying one. Thanks.
He is such a nice guy, met him several times on their tours.
Nice man- that takes a lot of confidence n courage
Definitely appreciates it!! Youre a saint!
You're a good son. May he rest in peace 🫡
May he rest in peace. You're a good man and you made him proud.
you made your daddy proud
thank you
Nice sound, excellent tone more so when emotional.
Great playing!
Allison is one of my favorite people in the world. She is beautiful, generous, kind and super talented.
Went to school with John, PS 11 & NDHS. So happy to see how well he has done. Obvious from 6th grade on that he was dedicated to music and becoming a great drummer/musician.
I am so disappointed Peter moved to New Mexico. I live in NJ and would have loved to taken lessons with him. Bummer!
Great vocal trio: Leonard, Perla and Julie! ❤
Took lessons from Terry ages ago. Great guy and great teacher.
I was fortunate enough to play with JT in the 90's when I lived in Santa Fe. Stellar musician and warm- hearted human being!
Just a privilege to hear him.....great player

Awesome!
An interesting video. Thanks for posting. I too own the 6310Z and am thinking about the Commercial. How do you find they compare? Are they a similar weight? I'm generally happy with the Z but like you I doubt that the 8310 mk2 would be substantially different. The only flaws I can detect with the 6310Z are the slight lack of focus (it tends to spread the sound which I put down to the fairly flat 5" bell design). Also the sound is a tiny bit lacking in core. An advantage when you're aiming for a warm vocalized sound but less effective for playing lead. I wondered how the Commercial stacked up in these departments and were there any particular reasons why you switched from the Z?
I have come to love both horns. Oddly enough, I use the 6310Z for mostly Jazz and Big Band and the 6335RC for everything else.
I didn’t know this existed! I loved it and learned so many things about him
I knew John back in the day, when we drove a school bus together, in Reno. John was also a great Poker Player, too! We had a lot of fun back in the day! I'm so glad to know John has been so successful in his music career! I also moved to Montana, but I'm in the Bitterroot Valley. God bless you, John--- Vicki Granata
Loved it!
Terry is AMAZING! It’s great to have his backstory as he seemed to arrive out of nowhere playing like a total BOSS. His sound & swing are second to none. It’s cool that he smiles when he plays… but one cannot equate that with one’s enjoyment. I LOVE playing the drums & cherish every moment behind the set - but I look like I’m doing math problems when I play. Mugging and pulling faces is, for me, way too distracting.
Again, what a great interview! Phil was actually my very first music teacher when I was 11 years old; we had lessons every week at the New Mexico Jazz Workshop down the street I remember, and he taught me all I needed to know really, and offered me just wonderful opportunities at such a young age-so he is quite a significant figure in my musical development. And I still know him very well, and I play on some of the Youth Jazz Collaborative's gigs, in fact, which are so much fun! Keep these great interviews coming!!
Gosh, I just LOVE watching these! Another great interview, keep 'em coming!
WOW WAIT ....WOWWWWWW SUCH AN OUTSTANDING INTERVIEW!!!!! I completely loved the "Rhythm"" between the two of you. The interaction between the both of you is so engaging simply brilliant BRAVO!!!!
What a wonderful interview!! I truly enjoyed it.
Classy guy, i had the privilige of taking lessons with him at UNM. great teacher!
I had such a good time with you, Michael! Thanks again for inviting me on your show. 🥰
Wonderful interview as always!! Thanks so much for doing this, Michael!
Would this horn be used for mariachi?
It is a very versatile trumpet so I am sure it can be used for just about anything (including Mariachi)!
Nice review. By the way, a ‘one trick pony’ would only do one trick (style). I think you mean you wanted a ‘Jack of all trades’. i.e. versatile.
Wonderful interview. Thanks Ty.
I love Ty. She's an amazing singer!
I've been following Mr Lawrence's career since I first heard him at Avery Fisher Hall in NYC with Benny Goodman back in the early 1980's. He is an amazingingly lyrical and swinging tenor saxophonist. He doesn't play notes just to be playing notes. He tells a story when he solos. Not many left like that anymore. That's why he has been the featured tenor soloist with the Basie band for all these years. As the great jazz historian, Dan Morgenstern, puts it - "Doug is the real thing!". Very nice to see this video on him. Thanks for posting!
