The Congressional Women’s Softball Game began in 2009 with captains Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), Rep. Jo Ann Emerson (R-MO), Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME). They brought together a team of women Members of Congress to play the female campaign staff from both parties after Debbie Wasserman Schultz announced her own battle with breast cancer. In 2010, the Members asked the women of the Washington, D.C. press corps to join the game as the opponent and a lasting rival was born.

Thank you all for serving! Gosh that drill team is outstanding! Thank you for presenting this whole thing. I grew up at Fort Ord U S Army Base where my dad was Post Quartermaster General. He was a full Bird Colonel. He served 32 years, including a very long duty in Persia during WWII. I was only nine years old when he retired, I’m 77 now. We used to have the film which had been put on VHS tape, of his perfect retirement ceremoney - the grand Passing In Review of the troops with the band and the flags, the speeches and the whole thing. Having that film meant so much to me. Terribly sadly, it burned in the fire when my home burned down with my son, his wife and four year old son died in the fire.
Grand, such a grand performance!
I did not have time to listen to this whole concert. This was so good I could not turn it off. I did not get very much done today but I was throughly entertained. Beautiful music and beautiful voices. Thank you.

Great songs. But I want to thank the Navy for your medical help aboard the Hospital ship. I am sorry, but I won't thank you for the voyage on the flat bottom from Nam to Okinawa that was supposed to be 4 day and took 9. I know you could not stop that typhoon, but you are crazy to want to be on ahip. I will take the jungle any day. haha
