Hazleton and the Women Who Formed Lineages
A quick trip out to see one of the Hazleton barrows. Because of recent DNA testing we now know a lot more about Neolithic relationships and how those relationships affected how you were treated in death. This is in the press at the moment and more can be found in Nature magazine for those of you with a scientific background.

East Kennet Long Barrow, the Wansdyke; a 5-6 Mile Hike
Просмотров 992 года назад
This is a parish within the Avebury complex of monuments. It is also a good walk with quite a few interesting things to see, several footpaths and even a bit of open access land. There is sub Roman, Anglo-Saxon, Neolithic and Bronze Age. Lots of history for a walk essentially. #history #walks #historywalks #neolithic #bronzeage

This is my second trip out to Wittenham. Where it was an Iron Age town on the previous video this is about an Iron Age fort, a “Roman” enclosure and a Bronze Age barrow. I also have a look at some pottery lying about.

Within and just outside the parish of Little Wittenham are several interesting ancient monuments including Dyke Hills, Wittenham clumps, a Roman Villa and Brightwell barrow. Plus a few bits of old terracotta. Anyway, it’s a good walk. This is part one of two. #bronzeage #historywalks #oldenglishcharters
History Walk - Seven Barrows #history #walks #bronzeage

The Seven Barrows are (mostly) Bronze Age burial mounds. There were originally about 40 mounds so this is a major cemetery. I didn’t notice on the ground but looking at my footage I believe there is a very rare type called a pond barrow which is pretty exciting. I looked for the Saxon charter for Lambourn but couldn’t find one. If anyone knows of one please let me know. It was a nice walk and I...
Adam’s Grave and the Wansdyke - a Walk Near Marlborough #history #walks

This walk starts at Alton Priors in Wiltshire (near Marlborough) goes up on to the downs to Adam’s Grave (Wodnes Beorge in the ancient charters), along the army path up to the Red Gate, along the Wansdyke and then back down the lowlands. About six miles I reckon. There is some drone footage of some ancient monuments and I waffle on about archaeology.
Wick, the Druid Stones, a Saxon Charter and a Roman Villa - Part Two #walks #history #antiquarian

A quick walk after work near Tracy Park golf course. There is lots of Roman stuff around here but this has Neolithic too. It was a good breath of fresh country air and thought I’d seen the Druid Stones before I hadn’t been on these footpaths.
Wick Near Bristol, a Quick Walk With Pottery - Part One #walks #history

Wick is near Bristol and it’s claim to fame is that Black Beauty was written there. But it is nearby and has footpaths with fields and pottery in. I investigate and completely fail to interpret it. This is part one with part two to follow.
Wayland's Smithy, Probably Roman Pottery and a Good Walk #walks #history

I have spent a lot of time criss-crossing across what used to be the North Berkshire Downs but is now Oxfordshire. Some important sites are here including: Uffington Castle and White Horse; Ram's Hill; Seven Barrows; the Ridgeway; Alfred's Castle; not sure about the Blowing Stone; and the Icknield Way. I start this walk at the top of Knighton Hill, near Uffington Castle (see OS map) and then ta...
