Some of my observations from seeing it twice in the theater: Elphaba's wicked witch hat is a mirror image of the tornado. We see bluebirds flying over the rainbow at the end of The Wizard and I. The box that contains Mrs. Thropp's silver shoes has a ruby-like material inside. The pair of ruby-like shoes that Galinda shows Elphaba, she taps them together three times. Fiyero isn't affected by the poppies in The Wizard of OZ and isn't affected by them in Wicked. The Wizard's name is Oscar Diggs, from Omaha (O-Ma-Ha, O-Ma-Ha) Nebraska (State Fair). The main characters foreshadow their fates. Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth (the Broadway original Elphaba and Glinda) cameo of The Emerald City Players. Wicked composer Stephen Schwartz delivers the line "The Wizard will see you now".

Glinda ran to give her a pamphlet about the Emerald city, NOT the invitation.

Ooh! I have another question: if elphaba melts when she touches water in the wizard of oz; how can she cry at the ozdust and in the defying gravity scene?

I'm curious how they're going to resolve what in act 2 of the musical is just some throwaway connections but requires almost total amnesia from existing characters if you think about the implications. I won't be upset if John Chu does some major Mike Flanagan DOCTOR SLEEP reimagining in the second part to connect everything together logically.

It's good to see someone else process this too. In the wicked books I'd definitely say that Glinda was Elphaba's friend. I've only seen the first movie of the musical though. So, I guess we'll find out next year how it all turns out.

I loved Pfanee saying 'I don't see color' because that's the characterization of the masses. Especially after the defeating exchange between Galinda and Elphaba, where Elphaba was not grateful for Galindas gesture to maybe one day fix her problem, for Pfanee to continue and placate Galinda by saying 'I don't see color' is obvious fake liberalism, said by an obviously vacant fake character. I think it was played beautifully.
