Beginning Watercolor Tutorial - Gradient Sunset Sky and Mountains
Просмотров 72 тыс.7 лет назад
This is a beginning watercolor tutorial showing how to paint a gradient sunset sky and mountains that recede in the background. This tutorial uses three colors - ultramarine blue, cadmium red medium, and cadmium yellow. If you don't have these exact colors, use something similar. The first step is to paint a gradient sky with ultramarine blue at the top thinned out to a pale blue. Then adding a...

This is lovely. Thank you
Thank you.
I learned a lot from your video today. Thank you. 😊😊😊😊
Excellent tutorial!
The written description covers what you are doing and it is disturbing the videi
Beautiful!
Loved this lesson.
Wow!!
Watercolor videos are lewds for Thing Addams.
I tried this tutorial today and found it informative and helpful for this beginner. Thank you!
Beautiful. Thanks
Thank you
Your color will mix better and will be more visible on a pallet that is roughed up plastic, or glass, or porcelain. Plastic has a coating that repels water.
Great vid. But, ewwww Canson (Walmart crap that buys Arches leftovers and cast out ingredients). Arches for the win. Especially for beginners that want to stay encouraged. (or at least Legion or Stonehenge or Windsor Newton)
Really like your videos....
This is honestly one of the BEST tutorials I've ever watched! So clear and concise and the painting came out so so beautiful! I'm paint something special for my mom and I know she'll just love this. Thank you so much :)
if you're interested, I have a series of 6 classes now to learn even more skills. www.bridgettemeinhold.com/2020/04/new-virtual-art-practice-classes-to.html
Where did you go?
Thank you for the perfect beginner tutorial!
Your paing is very wonderful.
thank you!
Great tutorial! I would recommend editing it so that the hairdryer isn't so loud - maybe mute that and dub w music?
You are an excellent and inspiring teacher! Very nice beginner video ~ as a beginner I appreciate it very much!❤️👏
I loved it so much , I just subscribed. Thanks especially for explaining everything in such good detail.
Very helpful! I discovered your video by accident. You are such a good teacher .you explain each and every step very patiently , even explaining when the brush should be clean. I rarely find other youtubers explaining in such detail. Thanks for posting
Really liked the tutorial and mine turned out beatiful except the intersection between the blue and yellow became muddy... Do you how you can prevent that?
Hi Jasmine. Spend some time watching a sunset and you'll see that there is a gap of more white between the blue and the yellow. Leave some room in between these colors. Fade the blue to white and then start adding the yellow.
@@BridgetteMeinholdFineArt Thanks, I'll try again!
Tried again and it turned out better! Thanks
Your work is beautiful! I love your tutorial am I am excited to try my first sunset water color! But, as a beginner, Please help me understand why the sky didn’t turn green when you added the yellow?!? The paper was wet and I thought the colors would just blend into each other.
I think there is more of a space between the yellow and the blue, which I purposely did. Take note of a sunset sometime - it fades from blue to white then to yellow, orange and red.
Bridgette Meinhold Fine Art Thank you for replying and for helping me understand! I’ve been studying sunsets and photographing them for quite awhile. I’m about to create my very first sunset water color. I tend to overthink things a bit :)
Add yellow to BLUE in the sky. Yikes! You are so brave. Good job. Thank you.
can i know what type of paper you used or the type of papers you paint in?
i feel you may have already gotten your answer, but just in case you haven't, she mentions at about 0:14 that she's using canson cold-pressed watercolor paper. have a nice day :)
Very nice!
I love that you can speak to the true beginner and not obsess 👍
Thank you so much for such a simple tutorial. This is only my second watercolor and it worked out really great. I used your design to make a Father's Day card for my dad. Thanks again.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you :)
Awsm tutorial.. really help me as a beginner..
GREAT video, have watched about 7 times. My issues are this: 1- my brushes keep leaving hairs on the canvas. They are new, is this normal? Or are my inexpensive brushes cheap? 2-my paper buckles pretty severely if not taped down. 3-when you load your brush, you seem to barely touch the paint, I try to mimic your movements and maybe my paint is lesser quality than yours, and my loading tends to be clumpy. P.S. I really like that you use cottage cheese containers for water. I use Quaker Oats instant oatmeal cups.
1 - New brushes shouldn't lose their hairs. They might be low quality. 2 - Paper does this. If this really bothers you, learn how to stretch or "size" your paper. Just google how to size watercolor paper 3 - This is just practice. It might be helpful for you to have a scrap piece of paper handy to test your brush and see how it is "loaded" with pigment and water. Watercolor is all about the goldilocks moments and takes some patience.
Plz make more tutorials
I had so much fun following along, and my picture turned out beautifully! Thank you so much, I hope you keep making beginner's watercolour tutorials!
I'm just getting into water colors. This video and the mountain one look so easy and beautiful. Thank you!
Would you recommend stretching the paper first? Also, do you recommend a hard sizes paper? Love the tuts
Darlene Castro sure stretching certianly helps, especially as you use larger sized paper, but not necessary. I only stretch paper when I am working on a piece to sell or for something I will scan. As to hard paper? Not sure what you mean. Do you mean hot or cold pressed. I like both, but for different reasons.
Bridgette Meinhold Fine Art Hard sized, from my understanding is paper that has the sizing added to the pulp before the paper is made. I believe Arches does this.
Darlene Castro I've never heard of it personally. Paper is pretty easy to size, so I don't think it's necessary to pay extra for it. But I'm sure it's all a personal preference. Use the materials you like and have fun with!
Nice lesson!) Like from Russia :)
Very good and helpful.
