Teaching individual paw targets second session - Wren

Shaping in action! Wren has been taught front and rear paw targets on multiple items leading up to teaching her to target her individual paws to individual objects.

This is Wren’s first time on a rubble pile. We did about 10 minutes then 5 minute break then another 5 minutes on the pile.

These activities are crucial for building your puppy’s balance and body awareness and maybe most important of all confidence!

A simple warm up to do before a training session. This should help your dog be more engaged with you and prevent injury.

Training an indication behavior for detection and or tracking with a puppy. In this video I add the distraction of a 6 year old walking around. Adding in distractions early, while the dog is also able to do the correct behavior, is very important. If you wait too long to add distractions it may be more difficult for the dog to work through.

I am getting Finn ready for our first AKC scent work trial. She is a veteran detection dog but birch oil is a new odor for her. All other cans have distracting odors such as vanilla, ginger, latex gloves, catfish bait, blank q-tips.
