Hey Roy !! What would you admit is too much winds before you let it go
It depends on what you have to climb that day but usually around 35km/h winds it starts getting questionable.
Full agree with your "trusting your gut". Myself and my crew have to make it home safe every day, and you have to listen to that little voice that tells you something isn't a good idea! Also, wasps are the worst, suddenly you're getting hammered and there's already 4 under your shirt! Scary stuff!
Yes absolutely! It’s nice that we have reached a level of comfort doing dangerous things, but I always try to keep a level of fear in my back pocket. Sometimes it’s that comfort that can get you in trouble by having overlooked a potential danger that you end up identifying when you force yourself to be in that state of hypersensitivity. And yes I totally agree, we have families to get home too and when the spidey senses are tingling, it doesn’t make you any less of a climber to listen. On the contrary it might be what makes the difference between just a good and/or a great climber.
Another great video. If possible, could you do a video on chain sharpening? I have an electric sharpener and set it to the recommended settings, but my chains start to burn blue and curl the metal teeth. I've sent the chains in to have them sharpened and aside from the blueing, they don't necessarily come back much sharper then what I can personally do. Every time I buy new chains they are twice as sharp as any that I sharpen. Just trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Thanks
Yes absolutely we will do our best to make one for you next week! If you look closely there is a guideline on top of the tooth that is there to guide you with the angle of your file. Its also very important that regardless of the effected teeth you are filing that you do the entire saw equally. Both sides must be done to keep all the teeth at the same level to insure a proper cutting saw. Also very Important that the rakers in front of your teeth get filed down as well (with a flat file). The more you sharpen your teeth, the lower they come down. Meaning if the raker in front of the tooth isn’t taken down after a certain amount of sharpening, it won’t matter how sharp the teeth are, it won’t catch the wood because the rakers are at the same hight or even above the tooth. I’m not really a big fan of machines. The absolute best is to have a vice installed on a workshop table. That way you can squeeze the bar in nice and steady and concentrate on giving a good pass without having the saw move on you constantly. I even had a vice custom made to fit in the hitch of my truck that comes up to my tailgate! Anyway stay tuned and I’ll help you out in the next video! Thanks for watching!!
Love the knowledge and skill involved in this job.
Hi, looking into geting the edelrid talons, mind sharing your opinion of them? especialy if you can compare them to sometihng like the distels(aluminium) or notch gekos(steel) thankyou.
They are great! I climbed with them for two years. Put them through hell. Climbing trees everyday. I finally cracked the plastic on a freezing cold day. Could have just ordered a piece but it was going to be a one month wait. So I just bought a brand new pair of the exact same!
@@WoodRoyTV thanks
What area are you in am in Richmond Virginia
Quebec, Canada
Great job getting that one down. I can't wait for it to warm up some because I've got more trees that have splits just like this tree and they need to come down. Stay safe in this cold weather!!!!
You too bud!
I love what you said about the season - I feel the same way, December comes and I'm cranky and tired and ready to quit... March and I'm itching to climb again!
Funny how it works that way! Where are you located?
@@WoodRoyTV Toronto! Never a dull moment.
i have spent the last days sewing my sideD rings further away so i can "clip in :easier
Love that
Love those easy ones
Hey guys, maybe a stupid question but when you were almost at the top where you couldn't cut it comfortably because of the risk of falling through the powerline... wouldn't a pole prunner (HT in Stihl) be helpful? Or pole prunners are only meant to be used at ground level? Now after reading what I just asked I think I answered myself lol.
@martinv.- no you can use them in the tree if you need to I use them sometimes you can use them on the ground or the tree
Thanks for sharing your work . I appreciate your perspective on the work you’re doing. It’s really good to hear the mindset behind the work load. Vids with just tree work and no talking is a bit lacking. Keep being safe out there !
Appreciate that. Glad you liked my explanations
Great job buddy as always nice work I recently got the camp gyro double lanyard it's absolutely amazing it's very expensive but it's well worth it can always double tie in you can use it for single line for a short climbing system if you need it and so much other stuff you can do with it God bless stay safe
Always enjoying and refreshing watching the what not to do's. Perhaps a little late but i wish you and you're crew and family all the best and strength for the year to come! Ps: be honest... The bench is just for show, right?😂
Hahahaha happy new year bud!
Enjoying your channel. Yes I would love to hear your story regarding the power lines.
You got it!
Hey Justin, great video and tips! You said on minute 6:18 that you don't do work on anything that's 3 meters away (on every side) from power lines, is that correct? Is that a rule for you Woodroy is that something mandatory for arborists? I'd like to know! Thank you!! Keep up the amazing content 😍
Świetny komentarz do filmów.
Yeah I didn’t understand why everyone was so close.
@4:36 I am quite certain that is a Maibaum, a tradition from Germany where they decorated a limbless tree and install it in the plaza. The ones I have seen had a type of hinge at the base (Maibaumständer), making the installation (often done manually) and "felling" easier. This one clearly lacked one!
@5:50 - I think the operator had a seizure and was incapacitated when this happened. Wouldn't mind hearing your shocking story! Be well man, I have a small company in Toronto; wouldn't want to do anything else.
We’re neighbours! All the best 👊🏻
Merci! Oui on est au Quebec!
16:02 You sunk their battleship! Just giving you a hard time limbs like that can be hard. It's not like you would hurt the plywood sheeting just brushing it. Great video!
So pretty ✨

Nice work, it takes a lot of fear managment to climb dead or compromised trees. I'm a big fan of ratchet straps in those situations.

4:00 the guy appears to be roped in to the crane
We don’t spike prune over here, it causes too much unnecessary damage to the tree. I climb competitively and spikes are uncomfortable and hinder smooth movement throughout the tree. Learn redirects and get a spider leg and a porta wrap. 1 rope and a spider leg will allow you to balance rig with 1 rope and 1 guy on the ground. Learn SRS too it makes ascending into the tree smooth, less energy exerted, less friction in your system, less friction on the cambium layer and…well… it looks cool 🤙 I look forward to seeing your progression in climbing though🙏🤙
I like how the closed captioning 'translates' the sound of the saw as [music] [applause]
