Cool catch! Equipment is returning from Combat Support Training Exercise 24-01 (Annual USAR training) which ran from June 1-15, 2024 @ Fort Hunter Liggett, CA. The equipment is heading to Fort Eustis @ Lee Hall, VA then I presume line haul (Roadway) back to their bases. Units are from the US Army Reserve's 377th Sustainment Command, HQ @ New Orleans, LA including: 518th Sustainment Brigade @ Knightdale, NC 497th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion @ Salem, VA 424th Transportation Company @ Galax, VA 38th Regional Support Group @ Cross Lanes, WV 378th Combat Sustainment Support Batt @ Fort Indiantown Gap, PA 157th Combat Sustainment Support Batt @ Horsham & Willow Grove, PA 733rd Transportation Company @ Reading, PA + Det 1 @ Horsham, PA 413th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion @ Schenectady, NY 167th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion @ Londonderry, NH

why bother to paint the P42s if they are on their way out to the scrap heap?
Because they didn't have materials for another coat of phase 5 (which to be honest, is probably one of Amtrak's most boring schemes), so they painted it into phase 7, which I find really cool!
@@harrisonofcolorado8886 I just find it a waste of taxpayer money to paint an engine that probably has a year a most to live.
@@kevinhoward9593 I think 174 could last 3 or 4 years before retirement. According to Amtrak's FY2022 5 year plans, It appears that Genesis locomotives could still be in the phase out process by 2027, as so far, the 75 unit batch of ALC-42s is being delivered, but the 50 unit batch of ALC-42s will likely still be some time away (Also I believe Amtrak needs 125 units for the long distance lines, but some Genesis locomotives could be stored serviceable until Amtrak officially retires the Genesis). So it could be that 174 is one of the units in better condition and may last a few years before true retirement.
@@kevinhoward9593 P42s still have some life in them, yeah they’ll be retired soon but they’ll still have to use them as a buffer unit while we wait for Airos to be introduced. Not all the sets are going to be in service right away. Plus they’ll probably keep P42s as backup power and rescues.
@@kevinhoward9593 125 ALC-42s isn't enough to replace the 200+ Genesis units. Some are going to remain on corridor services until the Airo Fleet arrives. More specifically the services without SC-44s.

It may be retired in the near future. Someone said that Amtrak will be retiring all units built in the 1990s.
@TrainsAreReallyCool many P42s are going to be refurbished and repainted as 174 did. Many will also carry on until at least 2030.
108 is still being used, but as a phase 6 paint scheme. Don’t worry, it’s still running around the Amtrak system! ;)
108 will probably stay Phase 6 since it’s an Anniversary unit
