Some people are worth your time, and Many are not. The Fountainhead does not really have that type of message, but this waiter reading the book sees value in a character like Howard Roark who lives his life on his own terms. He's right --- she might have liked the book.

I’m not a follower of Ayn Rand, but I *have* read The Fountainhead. It’s a very powerful book, with very powerful, living, characters. In some cases very enigmatic ones. I personally also found it very undermining _ not all the way through, but after I finished it. (But that may be more about me than the book.) What it is *NOT* is a recipe for life or for politics (in my opinion). I actually think that it’s best approached as *fantasy* _ and as such, is very powerful, as I said. When people see the word “fantasy”, they think of Tolkien, George R. R. Martin or Wheel Of Time. But those sort of worlds aren’t necessary to make a fantasy. “The Fountainhead” is a world *very close* to the real 1920s/1930s USA as experienced by Ayn Rand: but it’s *not* a statement of pure fact, and its world is *close* to reality _ but not precisely the *same* as reality. I think any reader can get ideas from it _ but the *LAST* thing you should do is take it or any part of it as an iron rule for life which you should follow at all costs. I’ve searched the Internet and found heaps of articles both for and against Rand, most of which mention The Fountainhead. What I have *not* found is a single article that ignores all the political and philosophical fights *outside* the book and simply assesses it as a work of fiction _ or as I advise, fantasy. I’m not saying everyone, or even *anyone,* should automatically agree with my approach _ but I do think someone besides me should *consider* it.

The only reason Baby isn't tattling to the manager about what Robbie did to Penny is because it won't just get Robbie fired, it will also get Penny fired because she slept with him willingly..
