Verry 😎 cool. Always happy landings. Aeroclub bexbach EDRX
6:40 what's the "knuckle-duster" like handle with 4 holes in front right cockpit side?
You are looking at the landing gear retraction/extension handle.
Really interesting. Thank you. I learned a lot.
What about the rigging of this very beautiful sailplane?
Great to see and hear it launching so smoothly and obviously driven so well by the club members. Nice video 👍
Thanks much. It the fulfillment of a dream. I have a Private License SEL, but a motorized sail plane is even better.
Bro what is the thrust of it

bummer that starts where the incomplete copy I have starts
Is it dangerous to have the manual ballast valves? I remember from the ASH-25 that it is not allowed to empty the outer tanks only / before the inner tanks, which is usually made sure by the electric system. If the inner tanks cannot drain, you have to keep the outer tanks filled as well - otherwise you'll have a structural problem and strongly reduced Vne (150 kph).
The noisiest of the new electric SLS's.........
Multi millionaires only need apply............. where to find them, as the pool of pilots who can afford these gliders is getting smaller, before the sport disappears entirely up shit creek, is the question.......
In good news, new gliders sold today are much cheaper used gliders in 20 years...
EB are certainly doing very well with their ultra expensive product.
If you think Gliders are expensive, you should look at Yachts! There's a LOT of people spending £250k+ on hole in the water.... Now the question is how to convert them to a proper sport!
Well you keep voting for the same politicians over and over again. How’s that working out for you? 😂
@SeanFidler Odd observation to make on a Norwegian video of a South African product and UK / New Zealand based comments? I'm guessing non voted Democrat...
Hi, so around 3 m/s climb rate? What is total height gain with that propulsion?
Yes, and around 2600-2700 meter total elevation gain - check out the article here nordicgliding-com.translate.goog/test-as-33-me-dreamglider/?_x_tr_sl=da&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=da
Is that in 18m or 15m?
18m
J much drag would the motor create if it was left up throughout flight?I'm thinking of retro fitting?
Too much I would imagine, it kinda defeats the purpose of a glider if you have a huge boom with an engine on it attached the whole time.
Beautiful pictures, cool aircraft. Did you have the camera on your forehead?
How cool is that
I am *not* a tow pilot. Ive always understood the tow pilot should have a hand on the release through the first 1000' in case of an upset. Again, I'm not a tow pilot. Is the release really easy to access? The performance of this tow plane is spectacular for 140hp. Does the Eurofox specify a tow weight limit?
The tow limit is specified to 850 kg and yes, the guillotine is a yellow T-handle placed just next to the throttle. It's a little difficult to see from this perspetive.
What engine are you running ?
I like the ergonomics of the engine control unit better than the JS3 RES: both the use of a more traditional lever compared to a rotary speed control knob in the JS3, and also the unit is placed low down and central in the AS33 whereas it is normally higher and off center to the left in the JS. The lever in particular is much faster and intuitive than turning a knob 720+ degrees. Unfortunately the heavy batteries with only 2 launches worth of power will limit their usefulness. Overall weight is also a challenge, although the RES handles the high minimum wing loading with ease.
Empty at 500kg plus? or at 600 kg? Without giving weight etc., the above is fairly meaningless...........
I think this could be my next glider. Then again, perhaps the 304MS. I just don't know yet. But it's just got to be a single seat self launch. I want a JS3 RES but... The batteries just aren't there yet. The 33Me sounds wonderful as well, but you will pay a steep penalty on the indexing like in the JS3. I'm not sure I'm sold on the heavy controls of the 33. My DG is heavy at speed and I don't like that feeling. I haven't watched your video yet ---- I am very eager to see and hear your thoughts. Just commenting because I'm excited to see this video.
I'd wait to see what the Diana 4ER brings to the table - potentially the cheapest, highest performing and lightest.......... depends on how easy the wing batteries will be to remove as well - that is the big drawback of the AS33ME for competitions, plus its high empty weight of 420kg plus. OK for a 'recreational' motorglider but nothing much else.
@@soaruk3697 420kg is pretty heavy indeed. The batteries are fitted where the water bags would normally go, right?
@@TheSoaringChannel I think so but it has the ability to take water I think,u p to 600kg. The JS3s seem to be about 25kg lighter with 2 batteries. The Diana 4 target weight with batteries is 355kg -but am sceptical they will meet this weight - also the batteries are wing mounted -although I did read they were supposed to be easily removeable to be put in a car - we will see. To me the AS33Me seems to lack the adaptability of the JS3RES which can also be flown as a sustainer or pure glider - but it is still awaiting EASA certification and as you say the endurance with both batteries installed seems a little limited compared with the 33............
@@soaruk3697 I agree. If you truly miss read the day ending, you get a slow section of a flight: all you're doing is flying to the landout anyways. This isn't very helpful, but is obviously better than nothing. If you're only flying 500km triangles.... I suppose it's possible to sawtooth your way home with the remaining battery power, or better yet, get towed and then sawtooth home with more range. The whole point, though, is that you are self sufficient. The 33 and JS3 really aren't quite there yet. 9000' of climb in the 33 is only 2x 4500' sawtooth climbs, or 3x 3000' sawtooth climbs. What is that, about 90km assuming you are at 1000'at the bottom of each? That's kinda sketchy, too if you think about it, and it doesn't work (start). Now you're low with it extended, all to try to get home. The jet of the JS3 is better due to the high cruise speed (run max continuous) and level and you're home before it runs out of fuel. Obviously that can't self launch. So there's that. It's all a give and take. I agree - I'll wait but I'm definitely ready to make the next move. I'd really prefer electric self launch of anything Solo ($6,000) or Austro ($35,000) powered. The electric WILL EVENTUALLY be more reliable with less vibration headaches. This video demonstrates that. Ugh. I can't wait!!!
Have you flown the Ventus 3? Would love to know if it's more nimble than the AS33. I like the Schempp-Hirth nimbleness and, from flying the ASG32, I know I couldn't stand that feeling of heavy controls in the 18m AS33, for flying in the alps. Best handling I've seen is in Ventus 2c and DuoDiscus.

A thought provoking talk. I fly an HpH Shark FES and that has inspired me to try flying on some days which might not be conventionally "flyable"! Thanks Tilo
Hi Tilo, what are your thoughts about building a FES-selflauncher? LAK is selling FES-selflaunchers (13,5- and 15/18m), but SH is not. Takeoffs with FES feels very easy and safe.
Lak's self launcher cannot take water and SL so no use...... RES is a far better system for SL.
You call it "no use". I call it "a dream come true" and far better than RES, because so easy and so reliable.
@@lukasetz994 Most customers would want competitive sailplanes with SL capability and to have that you need the ability to SL at or very near max auw with water - you can't do that with FES and a 15/18meter glider, that's why Avionic, Schleicher and Jonkers did not go the FES route..... and use RES systems. If you like the low climb rate, extra drag and extra noise producing FES and the ability to self lauch at max auw doesn't bother you then sure FES might be acceptable to you - to most serious competitive and cross-country pilots though it's of 'no use'... for a SLS......... but then serious pilots don't buy LAK's........
Fiou!!! Good brake! I was a bit worried for the under-belly paint!!... I like very much my little SZD-55. However, if winning at lottery, I will not hesitate to get this marvelous bird!
Most of this presentation should show the powerpoint with mr Bennick in the corner.
Hi Poul - You are right. We will add a link to the presentation.
Thanks for sharing this.
The takeoff was not very good for a paved runway. Was that ballasted or dry?
No ballast - usually the glider climbs nicely with close to 4 m/s in the initial climb. Difficult to see if the pilot selects a little higher rotation speed than usual, since it is his first takeoff on the type.
The AS34ME gets out of Schleicher's 425m strip ok... ruclips.net/video/aA99aJ0F7DA/видео.html What's the empty weight of the AS34ME in 'real life'? - hazard a geuss at 420kgs plus before the pilot gets in? The JS3RES is just shy of 400 Kg empty.......
Pity no JS3RES.... or the 'grand daddy'... the Antares.......
That would be nice too!
the blanking square is extremely annoying.
Sorry for your discomfort, but as mentioned in the video description "the blurring in the first 3,5 minutes is due to sensitive technology at the manufacturer airfield".
Fantastisch
Well done! I want one.
That's a lot of leaking oil. I've noticed this is pretty common on this engine. Have you noticed this with each engine run? It seems to me this is happening from the turbine shaft seal not being pressurized when it is stowed. All the case oil runs to the tail of the engine. Then when it is started you get the spectacular fire on startup - which is pretty detrimental to long life of the hot section. And it's ugly to need to clean it. Haha. I'm curious what Jonkers says about this oil. It's mostly a nuisance but it will play a role in hot section life. Eventually it will crack from these tail pipe fires.
The turbine uses lube oil mixed with diesel. It's not a leak, it's unburnt fuel/oil from the star procedure.
Geil!
Nice video see also 10:10 What do you think about the rotax upgrade Price for an old Grob with a 2500 E motor that has 2000 hours? Motor upgrade with panel/avionic or only motor?
Grob still has not published any prices, so its still wild speculation. But the market is there for sure.
Schoon merchandise
Had a 109B from 1985 to 2005 with the Grob 90hp engine. It was a great cross country airplane and a reasonably good glider. I out-climbed a Blanik one day in the same thermal. I flew it coast to coast in Canada and to Florida. Nice to see it again with updated engine and panel.
wonderful 🤩🤩🤩 I wonder how long it can glide ? consifering the glide ratio of 1:28

removeing your hand from the stick for maiden and camera not good hope the owner does not see
I freaked when he left the stick just four seconds after liftoff. Luckily the trimmer was in the right position I guess. I usually trim slightly nose down on takeoff.
really
@@matkar228 One would only let the stick go if the aircraft is properly trimmed! The trim release is at your fingers at the stick, the green lever. It is just a quick tug on the lever before releasing the stick and the aircraft is trimmed for this speed. No big deal, really, it is not an aerotow or a winch launch.
Is it a late model Discus, judging by the lifting instrument panel? We had an old 1986 Discus b, which was lovely.

Very sorry but this video is really of impaired quality because the mic is DIRECTLY in front of the camera. One cannot really see any control nor display and the perspective is not strait either. I am sorry to come with critics here but this was not thought out. Michael / Sweden
Hi Michael - you are right, and we are aware of that too. We first tried with a headband-mounted camera, which was aborted due to canopy clearance. Then a suction cup mounted camera. Unfortunately during the take off the microphone moved to a very unfortunate position. We decided to publish the footage anyway so people could get an impression of the take off performance anyway.
