Unknown vintage natural sharpening stone
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.4 месяца назад
Unknown vintage natural sharpening stone. Tested on a straight razor - Naniwa 5000 grit (several photos with different lighting), stone with suspension, pure stone (used as a water stone) and photo - used as an oil stone. Tried shaving - very uncomfortable - seems to be coarse graininess - no more than 4-5 thousand grit.

Restoration and sharpening Kikuboshi straight razors
Good collection of power machinery. I restore many Japanese knives, and most are initially in much worse condition. Often, I need to make new handles. Good job, thanks.

Hello. I have been watching you for a long time and I am fascinated by your knowledge and skills. I have a question where do you buy these wonderful Japanese stones, maybe you have some source for reasonable money, I am young and I am fascinated by the tradition of razor, unfortunately it is expensive for me, greetings

Looks a bit like Belgian blue stone - I assume in Turkey they have a similar stone layer, as I've seen them there too. They are typically a 2 - 3 thousand grit; while the white stone usually found adjacent to the blue is 7 - 8 thousand grit. They can be used with oil, or water, and usually consist of a 2-piece set; one sharpening stone, and one truing stone; for cleaning, flattening and preparing the stone for sharpening. With these stones; you don't sharpen with the stone itself; but with the sludge you make on the stone with the truing stone. They leave very little bur; depending on the steel; and have been very popular with woodworkers and the likes for chisels and gauges. For razors; this would be the "coarse" stone; the white one would be the "fine" stone before stropping, of course.
Thank you. Very interesting
@@vadimzveryanskiy2231 Also; learn how to use them with edge-trailing sharpening method; and only when you are used to it use them edge-forward; as once these stones get wet; you can cut into them with modern high carbide steels. Your stone seems to have some damage on the edge consistent with that kind of "abuse" ..
Hi nice job on the restoration of the blade tip! What you have there is a WW2 British 1st pattern Commando dagger made by the Wilkinson Sword Company of London, England.
Thank you
It looks great man! Amazing restoration!
Thank you
Love your videos! Thanks for making them!
Thank you
interesting!
Thank you
Nice shave 👌
Thank you
The grain looks like it could be a Turkey stone.
Thank you
Yea man i wanna know what that is too. I wanna find some old school/medival east or west european sharpening stones for tools and or swords.
Water of ayre, or Tam O Shanta would be an excellent find , especially that size ...hope you'll know when cleaned and lapped flat.🎉
New old stock on that first razor ....beautiful ❤. I think you put its first edge on 🎉. Both are excellent razors and gave a fabulous shave .
Thank you. Yes, I think so.
Great film vadim! Hope you have a wonderful day
Thank you
Hello, what adhesive tape is this?
Hi Very thin thermal tape

That's the proper way 👌. Most scissors ✂️ won't come apart . So freehand with a slip stone for most of us.
Thank you

Hi Alex. Thank you

Vadim that is an awesome razor and the scales are very interesting! The HHT was crazy at then end, can we possibly get a shaving video with this razor? Happy friday!
Yes, sure. I have done shaving video with this razor and with the same razor, but finished on Naniwa Superstone 10000 grit. It will be interesting compare different finishes
That blade was painful to look at. Did someone think that it was a butcher knife and hack at the edge of a stone counter? Man. Thank you for sharing.
здрасьте. Согласен, русским фашистам не надо вещать свой контент. С уважением.
Nice sharpening set up
I have nothing but severe loathing for anything Baccarat. Well done on the repair though, save it going to the trash heap!
Do you have Instagram, telegram or somewhere that we can talk?
Charnley forest is one of my favourite stones to finish my razors. In general I don't like to use natural stones with slurry cos they tend to do a lot of chippings and shave is uncomfortable. In Charnley forest I finish the razors using it under running water till the razor starts to have a sticky feeling and a bite on the stone then I know I'm done. The shaves I get from Charnley are amazing.
Thank you. Very interesting
Wonderful video.. wonderful shaving...l like it....

Nice comparison! It does seem like there's quite a variety of different grits with the Charnley Forest stones and not as much uniformity as with the Japanese stones. It would be a great finish on a chisel, but on razors maybe the stone before the finishing stone.
Nice comparison, nice shave!
Thank you
vadim great shave like always! Great comparison
Thank you
Can you do a video of your entire razor collection? Discussing each razor. I would love to see them all. Thanks
I will try do it
In my early twenties I attempted to learn how to use a straight razor. Never quite figured it out. Today, I wouldn’t quit using my five blade razor for anything else. Nice video.
Thank you
