styrofoam is already waterproof. It needs protection from uv

Interesting, I've been brushing on layers of wood glue, but it's rather messy and doesn't get the styrofoam uniformly hard. I hadn't thought of this method though, I think I'll give it a go on my next sculpture.

Where is the how to part

Do you think this would be stronger than PVA and paper or PVA and fabric? I'm making theatre scenery that needs to survive a tour and travel. Thanks!

Hey mate, are you still around? Looking at painting the exact same shape, as indoor/outdoor seats for my Grannies. They can carry it around and sit in the garden.. or at the coffee table.. and the Mumma can just stack them in the corner when not in use, perfect right?!! Couple of questions though please, do I need to prime it? After painting with acrylic - do I then need to seal it? (Keeping in mind they will be trapsing around outside with them too.) If I do seal thw paint, what do I seal it with? Cheers.

Hello there please help me im looking to build a vivarium for some reptiles im wanting. But im wanting to create my own background. Last time i did i used concrete. But i seen a guy in America he used. Latex based drylok masonry waterproofer. But when i went to b&q i told them what is was for and they have no clue. And i dont have a clue. So i bought some FLEXYPOL WATERPROOFER IN GREY thinking it was what i needed so i put a bit on the polystyrene to test it but it melted. And i have no clue what i need to use or where to get it from. I need something to harden my polystyrene and in grey colour. And also safe for ny reptiles. I dont mind if i have to take a few steps to create my background. But any help will be great thanks in advance.

What tool are you using to smoothen it

Do you have to use waterproof pva if you only want to use the polystyrene shape indoors? I'm looking for a hard shell where if the polystyrene is pressed or dropped it doesn't show any breakage and limited compression. Is that possible with your method?

I want to coat big EPS letters and increase their strength and make them waterproof. Can I only use waterproof PVA and not dry sand and use acrylic paint over waterproof PVA

Is it possible to spray a filler-primer on top of the sand coat? So you can get a "smooth" surface rather than a "sandy" surface? I need a technique to harden my styrofoam prop and to make it smooth.. epoxy resin is way to expensive :( But I don´t know if filler primer on sand would work? Ever tried it? :)
