I'm Back! | Salvage Title Mustang Rebuild Project

Hey y'all, I'm back! After abandoning the salvage title mustang project car for a good year and a half plus, I've finally found the motivation to start to get back after it. Today I'm just giving you a small recap and reinstalling some of the ABS/brake parts. The shop is tidy again, and I think we're back on track to get the mustang put back together over the winter. Going to be filming the lifting of the 4.6 in my 97 Crown Vic. The BIGGEST reason for so many variation on RUclips, when it comes to lifting this engine, is because of CLEARANCE. Not everyone can GET AT the locations shown in so many of these videos. I HAD to remove the entire intake to get at the most convenient and sturdy points I could access. (Pulling the intake is disgustingly easy!) DROPPING the engine out of the chassis is NOT an option for MOST of these engines! (Full box frames, without removable cross sections, won't allow for this)

      Well yeah, of course. But anything with a bolt in k-frame, you can use this method.

    Currently having the same problem on a 2017 golf sportwagen. I am now going to have to pay $250 for parts from VW and prob $150 in labour from a local garage. I’m not able to do the work myself as I don’t have access to the tools and would rather someone with experience do the work honestly. Still Just like you I also did some research recall:42J5 and or 19V188000 they kept telling me my Vin was not a part of the recall.. funny thing was I wasn’t driving when I heard the spring let go? It was parked in my driveway and I heard a loud crack. I am furious with Vw.

      As long as your rails and strut towers are solid, no need to pull the motor really if it’s just sway. I just had to pull the drivetrain for access to section the rails for the rust. I think I’m ticking on 3 years of this project being torn apart, so that makes me feel better, hope I’m driving it within the next 35 years! Lol

    Perhaps you could have drilled a hole through the nut+stud combo from the side after welding them to insert a rod of some kind (old drill bit maybe) then cut it flush on the sides to let you turn them as one with the socket without the nut separating. Unrelated what size are those giant jack stands you have under the frame rails?

    • @kyholm
      @kyholm 2 года назад

      In hindsight, there are a lot of things I probably could/should have done differently, lol! Those are just what we call "truck" jack stands in my industry, or I think they are also called "tall" stands. Good for 6T each, go up to about 30". Very old at this point.

    I am grateful to you. I found you last night and have since watched a few videos. Who are you, man!? You are gifted in this car restoration game. I have watched days of other car videos over the last 2 years, many of them fantastic. But you have truly hit the sweet spot. Just the right mix of information, insight, instruction, and inspiration. I have learned a ton from a few of your videos, just today. My son and I are restoring his ’83 Datsun 280 ZX Turbo. It’s a project. Like you, we took a break and are going back at it. Here is what I learned from you just this morning: 1) Pull the engine out to better work on rust repair of chassis. 2) Pull the car out of the garage to lift the engine up and out. More clearance. 3) Use paper templates for fabricating sheet metal. 4) Put anti-crush tubes in thin wall chassis pieces. 5) Before welding the bare metal, spray on “Weld Through” primer (which also helps with lining up the parts). 6) Use sheet metal screws to hold the parts in place for tack welding. 7) Fiberglass over welds to prevent corrosion and make it all smooth. 8) Use tin foil for masking tricky parts. 9) Spray EPOXY plus primer over welds, new metal, AND fiberglass. 10) What the heck is Black Urethane Single Stage!? It looks great. Gotta find out all about it now. 11) The Harbor Freight Lift will try to kill me. To illustrate just how much I appreciate your well edited, well lit, well paced content, I have logged in to RUclips. It has been many years since I logged in. I have never commented on any videos and I have never subscribed to any RUclips channel. You win. You are the first. Subscribed.
