I love this! As a fellow artist, working in a completely different medium, I love seeing how other artists think and what their process is. I love the story behind the piece of wire you found!
Some very cool inspiration! 😊💙
What age group is Gather? Would it be too difficult for an 11 year old boy that just got a dog? Any suggestions?
Gather is meant for Young adult readers. I would recommend “Born to Run” by Michael Malpurgo or “The Dog Who Wouldn’t be” by Farley Mowat. TinTin comics have the lovely dog Snowy in them.
Great reviews!
Thank you!
Who needs involvement with the world If you can be submerged in books? I love the cat book!
Cat books always please.
Voting when you dont even know what you voting for is probably why canada is going down the toilet
Most likely the library books are RFID tagged - Radio Frequency Identification tags, which were recorded as you extracted the book and marked as checked out to you. Many libraries have this technology and it’s been around for a decade plus at least.
Berry pickers has been on my want to read list for a while...so I should look into getting a copy.
My book club ended up divided on this book. One person really loved it because Willa’s family is very much like her own right now. She wondered if it would resonate as much if she read it five years earlier. One person also gave up at 60 pages, one couldn’t even start and one was 50-50.
Library holds can be such a blessing and a curse. I spend more time than I should checking where I am in the queue and fiddling with the pause function. Over the course of a couple of weeks I’ll shift the paused date a couple of times depending on my ridiculous reading plans and whether a book seems to be moving through the system. It’s all an elaborate game of library chicken really.
You are more dedicated than me. I put it on hold and wait for the fates. 😂
@@booksatthebottomofthestair8446 Dedicated? Deluded? Or some sort of hybrid? Who knows. I thought the Tove Janssen was good -- darker than The Summer Book -- but worth a read.
I just read the prequel to "Jupiter Rising" which is "Orbiting Jupiter". Gary D. Schmidt is a masterful writer. I have read around 6 of his books and they are all great! I am looking forward to Jupiter Rising.
I’m not sure I have read all of Schmidt. That is one of the things I do in December, go through the year and make note of back lists I would like to read through.
Also I really liked the Ruth Galloway series...I'm reading the Inspector Gamache series now but like the other better.
My friend loves Gamache. I don’t. We reflect to each other that it is a good thing our friendship can withstand this disagreement. 😅
@@booksatthebottomofthestair8446 Gamache is not my favorite either.
I think that retreat was worthwhile after all, #major organized shelf and mind! Way to go
My worries are the future of my country. But I am also intrigued about Birnam Wood, it's on my want to read pinterest. Does your book club take turns choosing books and does the person who chose it lead the discussion? We've been reading classics from the 1800's (not really my choice) just finished Frankenstein. My last choice was Vaster Wilds so I'm researching my next choice which will most likely not be liked by a few members. The Dark Rising series sounds fun too...Take care =)
We used to give each person a choice but never was anyone in charge of discussing it. We just wade in with opinions and subjective comments. I never read reviews or listen to author readings or interviews. I take the book as it comes. Sometimes someone will come across an interesting article and share it. These days we bandy about several titles and have group consensus. Several of us are in their late 70’s and don’t want to waste time reading a book if others give up. We often change our minds if something pops up and intrigues us, or there is feed back that a book disappoints one of us. We are free to retract a suggestion in that case. Sort of a chaotic method but it works. We’ve been meeting for over years, so the rules are pretty flabby, like most of us.
I've read Prodigal Summer and did enjoy that but I haven't been drawn to any other of her books. I do have Animal Vegetable Miracle but didn't take it off the shelf yet.
I think Michael Moore is the more interesting author on this topic. Non-fiction without the self-reflection.
I love a good critical review! While I enjoy Barbara Kingsolver I completely agree that she can try to tell us how to think instead of working towards genuine connection. Out of every Barbara Kingsolver book that I have read Unsheltered was my least favorite.
Thanks for your candid review.
Thank you for sharing! Stumbled upon this video on my journey to start reading books again, will be borrowing Paperboy once I make my trip to the library :) Also, I love your tea mug! Hope your upcoming reads are wonderful!
Thank you for stumbling here. Always happy to welcome travellers.
Yes, it’s so beautiful where I am also.
What a wonderful video! Loved the intro and recommendations so much <3
Thank you, and hope a book intrigues you.
You make perfect sense!
I’m hoping to get to the book on the Halifax Great Explosion, I was fascinated with the passages about it in Eliot Page’s memoir.
If you are ever in Halifax, the museum does a really good interpretive installation about it. Laurie Swim, a local artist has a very good children’s book you might be interested to read.
This is my first time coming across your channel, and believe me I need book recommendations. I consider myself a picky reader and it’s really hard to find books that keep me hooked. I was never much of a reader when I was little, so I am trying to go back and read all of the books that I missed out on. One of my favorites right now it the Charlie Bone: Children of the Red King series by Jenny Nimmo. They are very Harry Potter-esq and are just really cute and fun to read.
I think I might have read one or two. I will look it up next time I’m at the library. I love books for that age range.
Yay for 550+ Good for you for taking French. 😊💙
You shot past 550! On to 600 next!
It’s gonna be fun.
Enjoyed the garden views, really like the stone walking path
Hello I love this video. ❤
I’m definitely checking out a few of your recommendations. So glad to have found your channel!
What a beautiful edition of The Eyes and the impossible. Anne of Green Gables is the book I have re-read the most. I love it. I enjoyed On Writing. Very different than his other books. Not like Carrie at all. 😊💙
There needs to be only one Carrie in anyone’s life. Or Jaws.
Great to see Tove Jansson's book mentioned in your channel. I love her Moomin's series deeply and I like the depth in her stories ❤
I bought The True Deceiver by Tove and it looks the opposite. Have you read it?
@@booksatthebottomofthestair8446 not yet, but I will definitely read it, because I have heard it is worth of reading
@@booksatthebottomofthestair8446 It seems, my comment didn't go through or disappeared in RUclips swamps: I have not read yet Tove's adult literature, but I am really interested about her other novels besides Moomin's universe.
You both picked out some great books. A Month in the Country is one of my favorites. I reread it every few years. Explosions in a Cathedral sounds like one I might like to check out.
I hope we both enjoy it. Let me know.
Hi. I’m not a Margaret Atwood fan either!! I am, however, a Louise Penny fan big time. Was her name mentioned various times?
Yes I think her first book was in the middle somewhere.
Thanks for your support of this project, your response, and sharing the books you loved and didn't love. I like how you were able to point out some themes you saw. 😊💙
Themes…it came out of nowhere. Surprised myself.
Yay Laureen! How nice to get your reaction to our top 67 CanLit books project. Thanks for promoting it to your book club and to your channel subscribers. I’m so happy that readers are talking about Canadian books they love…And hate! (There’s something for everyone.)
Looking forward to your upcoming one on translations.
@@booksatthebottomofthestair8446 I just posted it today. 😁
I’m so glad you participated in our project! Helen Humphreys was on my top ten list too; I chose her Machine Without Horses as my favourite but it could easily have been The Lost Garden instead. Two of the books you mentioned are entirely new to me and I look forward to tracking them down.
Thank you Lindy, this was great fun.
Not a big reader but your vid was nice. Hope youre having a good one
Try graphic novels? Or audio books? You can get free audio books from your library on Hoopla.
Great video! So happy I found you today 🎉
So glad you made it.
I am due to go back to the Witches books, been a while since i re-read them.Always loved how Pratchett would satirised certain things but it never felt mean spirited. You have had a great selection of reads!
Thank you for your comment. I love Granny weather wax.
So glad you participated and shared your top ten. I still need to read some Heather O’Neill. 😊💙
This was great fun, thank you for dreaming it up.
Loved the tour and you had several books I hadn’t heard of. I haven’t started Sanctuary Line yet but will soon. Looking forward to your top 10 list! 😊💙
It all looks like a magical little nature retreat perfect for escape and reading!
It is a true privilege.
So many books and so little time. Happy reading.
Thank you for viewing this.
Unable to hear you well honey 🎉😢
Sorry, I will try to not turn my head in the future.
Hi! Happy Tuesday, thank you for your videos, many of the titles made me want to go back to reading. Sending you lots of love from Mexico ❤
What a lovely discussion of this wondrous work, youdid a great job getting across the immersion and how compulsive this is. I adore everything Selznick has put out, but this one is my favorite. If you haven't seen it, there is a beautiful edition he did illustrating Whitman's Live Oak With Moss, exploring especially the gay storytelling of the poetry I think as his only adult audience work to date.
Invention of Hugo Cabret won the Caldecott, which was shocking since it’s not a picture book in the standard thinking.
Thank you Book of Dust, you are my favourite fact corrector. ❤
I’ve added the correct info into the description, I couldn’t figure out how to correct the video.
Wonderful review. Thank you!
Thank you for watching.
I've seen the Encyclopedia of Fairies before. Great to hear your thoughts on both books. It's been hot in Calgary too. 😊💙
Awesome review !!
Right! RUclips randomly suggested this video to me. I'm an audiobook person and haven't listened to any stories in a while, but her warm vibe, broad selection, and interesting synopsis made me subscribe. Also, I'll be starting D&D for the first time as a elven-fairy so her 2nd book rec. hit home 😊
Thank you for watching ❤
