Why I prefer TRUMA gas-level checker, vs crude magnetic temperature-sensing indicator
Do hit the like-button if you enjoy this video. And subscribe to my channel to see more, & help the channel grow - thanks.
Join me in this video, as I compare a TRUMA (German-made) gas-level checker, against a cheap, and crude temperature-sensing magnetic-strip gas-level indicator. I explain why the temperature-sensing magnetic-strip indicator, requires that the gas-bottle must be used for several minutes, before measurement can begin. Otherwise, the temperature-sensing level-indicator will not work.
I demonstrate the TRUMA gas-level checker, & prefer to use that.
I also use an industrial-grade FLIR-E8 thermal-camera to measure the temperatures across the height of the gas-cylinder.

    As other have said, this information has been incredibly useful. I installed my first ever Ring Doorbell (Doorbell Plus - newest version) and was so frustrated that it appeared to capture random events. I was ready to return it. Now I understand why it sees my car arrive in the driveway but misses me entering the house. I wonder what sort of percentage hit these settings have with battery life, including setting the sensitivity to MAX. I know it depends on lots of elements, but are we talking about serious drain? Unfortunately there is no room to fit the solar panel in my situation.

    • @DIYhabitat
      @DIYhabitat 3 дня назад

      u can test the battery drain by setting Motion Frequency to FREQUENTLY. Without external charging, battery will likely decrease double-digit % very fast. I connected the 15VAC power-suoply from my old analogue-doorbell, to my Doorbell4. It helps significantly. But over the past year, especially during winter, the battery can still drain faster than the 15VAC can recharge the battery. So i have had to replace with freshly charged battery.

    hasn't anyone made like product sort of similar to the duracell battery level checkers with temperature reacting paint? what if you just paint a strip of such paint on the bottle? sure you couldn't tell by what the color is, but by where the color gradient changes, there are paints with somewhat large temperature ranges of different hues.

    • @DIYhabitat
      @DIYhabitat 5 дней назад

      i suspect that 2 limitations of temperature-reactive color-altering paint - if such a paint exists - would be inadequte accuracy of temperature-sensitivity; effect of ambient temp on the color-change curve. Furthermore, would significantly increase cost of the gas bottle.

    • @lasskinn474
      @lasskinn474 5 дней назад

      @@DIYhabitat hmm well thats how the magnetic strip actually works, thats why it has many rows to use in different ambient temperatures. anyway you can get a "rainbow" paint that does a larger difference. you'd have to just look for the line where it transitions the color sharply (the colors themselves would change with ambient). well, maybe i'll buy some and try it, it's not really that expensive. I wonder if it would be possible to do an active ultrasonic one with a transmitter and receiver at different parts that could be trained to full and empty results. of course the easiest most accurate device is to just have a scale under it.

For what you stated the Computer will be used for, what the heck. I mean I can see if a 4080 if budget was concern, but with all the other high end parts in this build, to go with cheap GPU? I bought the Intel i9-14900K in Jan-2024. I think users started giving feedback from Feb-2024 about the 13th & 14th Gen Intel CPU problems. Then Intel issued a BIOS 0X129 fix to mobo-makers in Aug-2024. Some mobo-makers have released BIOs updates based on the Intel's latest BIOS fix. It is bad situation for Intel & its customer-base. Some of whom will/have migrated to non-Intel CPU. Good that some viewers offer viable alternative products options. As it means more options for builders to consider.

      @@DIYhabitatOk, you asked, so here we go! Removed my SSD with Win10 on it and stored it in a safe place. Installed a new 1TB SSD for Linux to live on. Tried to install the latest ver Pop!_OS, it didn't work out. The baked-in Nvidia drivers in Pop!_OS is for NEWER hardware and would not work with my nearly 14 year old laptop. Plan #2, because I have to download and use the 390.157 version of the Nvidia drivers I downloaded and installed the latest ver of Debian Linux, ver 12.7 Bookworm. Because I recently installed Debian on my old backup desktop, I kinda knew what I was in for... (Foreshadowing) Debian installed fine and I chose to install it with the KDE Plasma desktop environment because it basically like Windows. Here comes the 9 straight hours of pain. First, the laptop will run absolutely fine with Debian. BUT I wanted to make use of the discrete Nvidia 460M graphics card in this laptop. On the Nvidia website I found the correct Linux driver for my graphics card. First off, I'm a Linux NOOB so I enlisted the help of the Microsoft Copilot AI to help me get this done. (The irony of that is thick) The Nvidia driver is well crafted but it's not going to install itself, unfortunately. It needed several things added to the Linux OS and fortunately the Nvidia driver installer gave very concise error messages on why it didn't install AND what it needed to get past this point. I asked Copilot for the correct terminal commands to enter and try the install again, this went on several more times until the Nvidia driver was successfully installed. Copilot gave me the 2 commands to type in to make sure that the Nvidia driver is installed and running, yes to both. I added to the list of software repositories that the OS can access and I basically mirrored the software that I use on the Windows side. I only have one tip that will save another Linux NOOB some serious pain after that grueling Nvidia driver install. Just after the install the machine needed a reboot, at the login screen I couldn't login and it would crash back to the login screen. Here's where the Copilot AI failed me, it wanted me to basically wipe out the driver and reinstall it, I REALLY didn't want to go through that again. I happened to look down at the lower left corner of the login screen and said something like "Plasma desktop by Wayland". I knew that Wayland is the new ver of software that the OS is using for displaying a graphical desktop environment for modern hardware. I happened to click on that and it gave me the option to switch to the X11 display option, the way it was done before Wayland. This absolutely worked! X11 for old AF hardware like mine and Wayland for newer hardware. If I had listened to the AI and redo the driver install I probably would have gave up. Been using the laptop for the last couple of days, installed Steam and played some games, and the machine is pretty much glitch free and stable like a rock. The only thing I haven't tried is to see if the camera works, because I don't use Skype or Teams or any of that type of stuff, I don't much care about the camera. So that's my story and I'm sticking to it.😁

    Is the DC plug weather proof?

    • @DIYhabitat
      @DIYhabitat Месяц назад

      That is a good question. The DC-plug has a rubber-surround that is fully inserted into the DC-socket. Looking at the plug-seal, I would only consider the seal to have an Ingress-Protection of IP53. It theory, it should survive continued long exposure to light rain. But I cannot verify that. Long exposure to hot sun, will dry & shrink the rubber-surround on the DC-plug. This will cause the seal-gap to increase in size, thus permitting more dust & water ingress in the long-term. All my 4 RING battery-operated stickup cameras (with solar-panels) are installed externally in the open-environment. But the cameras themselves are sheltered inside sun-rain shades that I built myself. (see ruclips.net/video/F6Rp2PI3a-U/видео.html).

    Hi, just purchased this and the Din socket adaptor for my 2022 Triumph Tiger 900 GT PRO. I have it plugged in to the front Din socket uder the TFT. When I switch on the green led 1 is lit and the led 3 flahes red for about a minute then goes off and then only led 1 is lit (green). Checked it every hour for 10 hours and each time only LED 1 is lit. Never seen LED 4 lit up yet. Can't seem to find this scenario in the instruction booklet so could anyone advise please

      @@phileland6506 The user-manual is not written well. Take note of exactly what is stated in the user manual. "LED# 4 (green) - 24-7 BATTERY MAINTENANCE. First test following progression from STEP 4: For a battery able to hold a nominal charge, the program will progress to STEP 6, otherwise LED #2 will blink indicating a faulty battery (see above). Subsequent tests: the need for hourly maintenance charge is determined, influenced by the connected battery type and its state of health and continuous draw from stored vehicle's circuitry. Charge is delivered if voltage has reduced below 13.3V. A healthy lithium battery may occasionally.". There is a TEST phase of 30min, during which no charging occurs. Hi My bike has been sitting since earlier this year and when i tried to start it, it was completely dead. I jump started it few times. The bike started but kept getting off after few seconds. Also, the odo needlebwas going crazy while it was turned on. It kept going up and down. Do you recommend taking out the battery and charging it first? Thanks

    • @DIYhabitat
      @DIYhabitat 2 месяца назад

      There is no need to take battery out of bike before charging. Use a proper battery trickle-charger, & let it charge for at least 24hrs before starting the bike. From the symptoms you described, it sounds like either the battery is fully-dead (even after charging because it cannot maintain a load- current draw); and/or also the fuel-line is blocked or dirty. Best thing to do is, if you can get a battery load-tester (not just a multimeter), do a load-test of the bike battery immediately after it has full 24hs of charging. Do not use it to start bike yet. My video shows how I used a load-tester to check health of battery. Sometimes the health is so bad, that it cannot store a charge even after 24hrs of charging. That would mean a new battery is needed.
