Not true. A 'neutral' country is allowed to do what it want's it's not a legally binding status, it's just a choice made by the country at the present. And yes the Army Ranger Wing has done combat deployments and has rescued hostages etc.

Give it time, Ireland has only really experienced any inward migration of significance over the last 15 years and for nearly half that time there has been a near ban on recruitment for economic reasons. Give it time, and you will see...

They had a special rule which allowed current senior marine engineer officers in the merchant navy to join. I work in the offshore industry these days, but it would have been nice to do I suppose. When I see the Irish army, I think of Michael Collins and it gives me a sense of pride.

I doubt any western countries leaders would have gave their condolences for Hitler's death after millions of Jews died in concentration camps & those countries soldiers died on the battle field fighting Germany. Yes Nazi war criminals slipped in to some of those countries under false identities but the Irish government & some South American countries knowingly harboured them. Where was Ireland in WW 2?
