Hi DJ Hero, in your newest video with the percussion, you are using actual samples? I like the idea of putting all the beats in Midi, but I don't understand how to put in the instruments for the sound. When I changed my kick to midi D3 it sounded really faint even though the volume had not been changed from zero. Thank you for explaining.
I typically start by using Ableton's 'Sampler' so that I can swap out percussion samples easily as I figure out what samples sound best in my tune. Once I know what I want to use, I prefer you build my tracks using audio tracks because I like to see the wave form. Both the Ableton 'Simpler' and 'Sampler' are by nature quieter than an audio sample. It's probably programmed that way to provide velocity control. I think for most people who like to push keys or pads, playing the notes is better than dragging samples into their position on the time line. I assume "D3" refers to the D3 Portable USB MIDI Keyboard Controller. I'm not familiar with that controller, but if its keys are velocity sensitive, hitting the key harder will cause the audio to be louder.
I really like how in-depth you were for each of the percussions using Fab Filter. I'm currently using Ableton, and have the Plug-In Alliance Bundle and ShaperBox by CableGuys. Do you recommend anything from that platform? I eventually will invest into the Fab Filter. I am definitely planning to share this great tutorial! Thank you DJ HERO!!!
I would say any EQ you're comfortable with, or that you trust the quality of is going to work. Ableton's stock EQ8 is a great plug in. For me, I've been using Fabfilter for so long that their interface is second nature to me. If I had to suggest anything specific, it wouldn't be a specific brand, more so, it would be the functions it gives you. I like Fabfilter because I can see the wave form in the plug in. That means I can see directly what I am doing to it. Additionally, I have control over if I want to EQ' the stereo sides, the middle, or both. Ableton's stock EQ's can do that to.
