This video really down played the cruelty that goes in in this industry. Over a decade ago I watched a vid of a Premarin barn and the under cover man measured the temps in there at -30 below and the horses could not even move to warm themselves. Some had collapsed in their stalls and cruel men came along and belted them with steel pipes to get up. Then there was the horrendous treatment of the mare foaling her foal onto cold concrete floor and she was taken away from her foal immediately and the man picked up the foal and literally impaled it on a meat hook and we watched it go around the line kicking and screaming until it got to the man that slit its throat......I once saw my ex father in law slit the throat of a a sheep as had only lived in the city till that time. Here I thought the sheep would die immediately and was horrified to watch it bleed out over 10 minutes before it finally dropped dead. I turned to my ex father inlaw and stated rather repulsively "that was the most disgusting and cruel act I have ever seen and why did you not put a bullet in its head. He replied back "Ï did not want to waste a bullet"! At that, I told him he was sick and walked away and from that point on I do not eat slaughtered animals.

So sad 😭💔. Imagine standing in one spot, on concrete, with arthritis and pain, unable to move or lye down for 6 months 24/7. As a result reproductive organ failure happens, as gravity takes over your body and you then have to endure a truck trip to slaughter, days or weeks on the road, unable to move, dehydration, hunger and stress the whole way! I told my doctor where he could stick his HRT. As a horse lover all my life and horse owner I was disgusted with this hormone production. These farmers are vile abusers. I owned my menopause, lived through it and keto dieted it away.

It's not the mares that go to slaughter, it's the foals. The foals are the by-products of the pregnant mares. Same as dairy cows being bred to produce milk; their calves are taken away and go to veal farms or are sold off as day-olds, and their mothers can now produce milk for the dairy industry. Nowadays, birth control pills are produced syntheticly, so there is no longer a need to harvest pregnant mares urine. BUT, if you want milk from a cow, she has to become pregnant, give birth to a calf, and the calf has to be taken from her in the second day of its life (day one so the calf gets all the antibodies it needs from mom's milk and can be raised away from her). In the milk cow industry, only female calves are given a chance, as they'll become milkers themselves. The milk breeds are not bred for weight on the hoof as year olds. Male calves are penned and raised for veal, and are generally slaughtered at 2-3 months old, after being kept in a dog house no bigger than they are themselves. From birth, these veal calves have never been allowed to move, they've never seen anymore daylight than what shines through their little cage. They're fed, of course, 3 or 4 times daily with a bottle that comes through a small hole in their 'cage'. But they are not allowed to have any movement, as muscular usage would toughen the meat. I'm not lying about this, I live in Southern Ontario, and I see all the veal pens at the dairy farms. AND, to back to the urine mares...I used to live, as a young teenager, in Orleans, Ontario. It used to be a farming community, and there was a urine farm at the east end of our village. There were 60 mares there, all in standing stalls, all strapped up to piss collection contraptions for their whole pregnancy. Once the foals were born, all the mares were out in pasture with their foals but only for one glorious month. The foals were then taken away and sold at the livestock auction in Navan. The mares were all bred again and so their sad story continued. I lived there, I saw this. The month the mares had outside with their foals was so beautiful! The babies ran and played with each other, just being beautiful little horses. The mares ran and played just as much as the babies, freed from the 11 months strappings of piss collection. But, there was a stud in these freedom moments. They were all bred again, their foals were taken away, and they were back into their standing stalls and harnessed up once again for 11 months of piss collection. As a young teenager at the time, I didn't realize what a sad situation this was for the mares...or the foals.
