    John, thank you for you video walk on the Camino. I have now watched the complete set of videos. Hopefully I can walk it myself in 2026. Having avoided doing the Frances in preference of the Portuguese and Del Norte, I believe I need to start at St Jean Pied de Port. Thanks again

      Thanks for watching. I'm about to start the Del Norte from LLanes to Santiago. It gets tougher each year. Hopefully, I'll be able to finish this one. Picking up the first half of the Del Norte next year.

      @@johnsikora Enjoyed the Del Norte in 2018. Tougher and longer than the Portuguese. I also added in Muxia and Finnistere. Still not satified returned to Porto and did the inland route to Valenca, train down to Caminha and walked around to Ponteveda via Vigo. Thought after 1,200km, that was enough for that trip. If I return and do the Frances, I'd also continue from Pontevedra on the spritual variant. All good fun.

    How nice it is that there is someone like you, John, documenting the entire journey. I just realized that I walked the Via Plata (from Salamanca) two weeks after you. So, I had exactly the same scenery at the same time of year. I'm watching your video now and I feel a warmth spreading from my heart. This was my last Camino so far (more than 10 in total); I've been struggling with an injury for two years, but I can't stop thinking about going again, as this is my calling. Your films are a balm for my wounds. Best regards and thank you :). My videos from that journey are on my YT channel if you would be interested in the other perspective on the same path (just short clips, no talking).

      Thank you for your kind words. I know how you feel. I'm 75 but can feel that the end of Camino walking is within sight. Hopefull, I'll get to do the Norte this year and next and perhaps another full Camino Frances when I'm 77. I'd like to upgrade the videos that I took from HD to 4K. It is a special privilege to be able to walk multiple Caminos. Hopefully your injury may get better and you can enjoy a few more. Thanks again for watching.

    Enjoy watching this video brings back memories. We did the same trip at least once a year back in the 80s,when most of the highway on the Alberta side was just two lanes. It was great to get on the interstate on the Montana side. It was funny years ago, that it was Albertans that were clocked as the fastest going down interstate 15.

I'm so happy you could finish the Camino Sanabres this year! this is the area (from Ourense to Santiago) that was somewhat confusing to plan, I'll check your videos with attention, and I'll bother you if questions arise! On another note, do you plan to do the Camino del Norte at any time? Renato

    Thank you John for that fantastic and absolutely realistic picture of the route. I am happy I stumbled on this video before I leave two weeks from now. My biggest fear is losing my track along the route. I have a few questions and I will be very glad if you respond. Was the route well marked all along? How long did it take you? What was your age and fitness level when you walked? Any advise you would like to give a 70 year old with average fitness? Thank you.

    • @johnsikora
      @johnsikora Год назад

      The Frances is very well marked. There are also multiple apps that have the GPS tracks embedded in them so that you won't get lost. I was 65 when I walked the Frances and in OK fitness. I'm now 74 and just walked the Ingles, Sanabres, and Muxia/Finisterre this year (two months ago). I don't know if you book ahead or not but my advice is that if the elevation is high or the distance long book ahead so that you get there when you get there. And don't listen to anyone who says a given stage should be x K. It should be as long as it is comfortable for you. I personally have reached the point where a 20K walk is plenty for any day and 15K is even better so that I can enjoy the day, the evening meal, and the town that I'm getting to. I walked the Frances in about 60 days.

    Thanks for all the work, I really appreciate it!!! I've been looking for more info on this route and there isn't much. The views are not as far and wide, but wow! they are no less stunning than on the Napoleon route. Depending on the weather and time of year, I'd probably take this one. I wonder how you found all these secret little turns and paths, especially the last one after the parking spot - where you suddenly cross over a field and grass, entering the paddock and wander by the horses 😳 - but I guess there were signs. Big big thank you.

    Thanks a ton for this. While the Napoleon route is stunning as long as it's not foggy or rainy, for us older folks this route is definitely a good alternative and has great views as well. It's a different challenge to walk on pavement for so long and to watch out for cars the whole time, so both have their pros and cons.

    • @johnsikora
      @johnsikora Год назад

      Yes, it's a risk of the process. I attach the camera to my backpack and while walking it tends to shift left. Never found a really good solution that worked 100% of the time. The newer videos are a bit better since the GoPro technology changed. I would like to walk the Frances again and use the new technology - but at 74 that window may be closing :) :)

    My last Camino in 08/18, I took the Valcarlos route. I ended up injuring myself and I tore something where my leg meets my hip. I think I saw maybe 3 other pilgrims the whole time and got lost a few times. There are portions where there are no markers for a while. When i got to a section where it is like a shortcut to Roncesvalles, it was closed for a reason i can't remember. So there I was, on the side of the road and the sun going down, trying to figure out how to get a taxi or uber to pick me up because I was entirely spent and emotionally drained. Then a miracle. A taxi drove by and stopped. He picked me up and drove me to Roncesvalles and didn't even charge me. I was very close to crying tears of joy. I will be taking the Napoleon route this time and staying at Orisson when I go this August.
