Great footage, thank you for this upload.
Don king looked so pissed off 😂😂😂😂
Bit like tyson. Once Gerald came upon a guy who just took it all and kept coming back he ran out of ideas.
I was in thst crowd shouting for benn. Great fight. Nigel was a tough as they come.
The only man that deserved to be in McLellans condition was that reptile Don King. A vile human being who championed him pre-fight and was then cosying up to Benn as he lay in distress in the corner..the world will be well rid of this parasite.
As a kid and Benn my hero this fight still haunts me. All the build up and GM's rep had me in bits with worry, but Benn feared nobody, hes was a full blown warrior. Nobody mentioned it on tv but i could tell something wasnt right right with GM fron round 4, when he kept hanging his gumshield out, then the blinking. Watching it now I just want him to quit and save himself....but he was a warrior too.....I still love boxing, but this left a mark on me like no other fight 😢
Not sure who one of the commentators is but he’s clueless
Uppercut!!!!
43:48 You can see the lump on his skull
Don king is scum
Tremendous fight, awful, amateurish commentary
Gladiators- last man standing 👏
Don king leading in McClellan and talking shi😢 leaving with benn
great, but sad
What song did nigel come in to?
I don’t think Nigel Benn should celebrating like a lunatic, while his Opponent, lying down on the canvas dying ,
Never a Benn supporter, but he was a great boxer, he always reminded me of smaller Iron Mike Tyson, same look, same style, Collins v Benn 2 of the best most brutal fights at super middleweight of that era and their were some very good super middleweights around then.💚☘️🍻
McClellan was having trouble keeping his mouth piece in his mouth during the 5th round. Way before any accidental head clash. His problems started before this fight, caused by the punishment given to him by Julian Jackson in their first fight. The fight with Benn just made those problems much worse.
Totally agree …. He was blinking after that fight …I
He was having mouth piece problems from rd 4 .
He was
disgusting commentary
Those comments by Jim watt were terrible.
This is what happens when cocky Americans come over to the UK....they get taken to hospital
Bloodlust.....Bloo'y 'ELL.
I still think when Nigel accidently headbutted him that when he started blinking his eye if you see the whole fight McClellan was doing good until Nigel swing and miss and headbutted him after that he was not the same.
Is this video and the hundreds more on youtube supposed to make me feel sorry for dog fighting/torturing Gerald McClellan?...well how does it feel like now asshole.
Wow Freddie definitely didn’t want or thinks Nigel should win!
Michale Benn!?!?!? Who’s that?!
Round2 ❤
Thank you. Had this on VHS and lost it. Watched it at the arena omg what a fight, atmosphere, everything was mind blowing. Brutal. Sorry for what happened to Gerald, but Dark Destroyer..........
Nigel is quite simply a soldier ❤ love nige!!!
McClennan told his corner that he never wanted to come out for the sixth round because he said that it felt like water was rushing through his head. Instead of letting him stay on his stool, they told him to get back out there and continue boxing a rabid Benn who was out for blood and fighting like a complete mad man. All those power shots that Benn landed on the back of McClennan's head eventually took there toll and nearly ended the American fighters life. Some say this was the best fight of all time. I say it was a bloody disgrace for the sport. Benn should have been disqualified for all those blows to the back of McClennan's head. Those types of punches are illegal in boxing and Benn was not even warned once by the referee for this. The ref was disgraceful in this fight because had Benn been disqualified for his illegal blows, McClennan would most probably have not suffered those terrible injuries that have left him in the state that he is in today. This fight will forever go down as a black eye for boxing! If you can't fight according to the rules then you don't belong in the ring. Period!
Punching behind the ears was a coward move!
Rd 2 was a banger anyone agree? Wot a come back round 4 nige?
I just want 2 say would Steve Collin or Eubanks been able 2 beat da g man? I think not big up big benn !!!
What a scumbag don king is, he was mcellans promoter in this fight, his fighter loses is bein took off in a stretcher in a serious condition and don kings response to that is to go to nigel ben and try recruit him onto his stable and big nigel ben up, not even caring about his own fighter, true heartles peace of shit
Don King is shameless!!!
Was benn on juice that night. Something just wasn't right. And im an English fella
Yeah he was on something. The best drug ever. Adrenaline......
What sort of referee was that clown.
He was no doubt cheaper to hire than Steve Smoger, that's my opinion. 🤷♂️
Some French dude who didn't have a clue and could barely speak a word of English 5:30 shocking.
They’re bringing a stretcher in and he’s still giving it the big un, Tosser
I think the butt to his left eye is what took the toll
Man was on the floor fighting for his life and those meat heads are jumping around for joy. Tf
Disgusting the way benn is reacting!! Him and his son are pricks
I remember watching this. Benn is my favourite all time boxer, and I went through all the emotions with this fight. Still reckon it's up there with the best fights I ever saw.
Same here bud. I was 20 at the time, recorded it on to VHS tape, my adrenaline levels didn't return to normal for a week. Then anyime I rewatched the fight I was right back reliving it. I knew when it was over it would rate as one of the greatest fights in any era. 🥊
This incident with McClellan seems to me like the boxing authorities learned nothing from the Michael Watson fight.
Apparently, the WBC and Don King asked who the best referee in Europe was, and they were told that Alfred Asaro was by someone. Why they were told that I'll never know. What about Richard Steele, Mickey Vann, Roy Francis or even Mills Lane from America. The atmosphere in the London Arena was electric that night.
Stop complaining. Gerald had rd 2 to continue but nigel was coming back
So many cry baby Americans in the comments, it's hilarious reading them all.
Sad what happened to Gerald McClellan but lets not pretend he was a nice person. He wasn't.
Cut the sanctimonious nonsense.
the commentator in NEW YORK WAS DELUSIONAL , Gerald was no way winning the fight
Thank You! The bias coming from those American commentators was so ludicrous and laughably obvious, it was pathetic! Wouldn't give the man his flowers which was justifiably deserved that night for his ability as a fighter. But of course, unfortunately it ended in extreme tragedy for the loser, which no one would have wished for after both boxers put such a great fight.
Gerald was the odds on favourite to win in the US and over here in the UK!! But that was the hype! A more sensible look at both indicated that if Benn could stay in the fight for the first few rounds he would have a chance!
The thing that made McClellan 's permanent condition a lot worse was the family taking him on a plane home. He wasn't supposed to fly and the doctors warned against it.
What was his condition prior to taking that plane ?
@yvans. Apparently he wasn't very bad, health wise. He'd had the blood clot removed and it was a career ending injury, but he wasn't like he is now.
Ferdy Pacheco was wrong to keep talking about McClellan just quitting. He should have waited until the situation was clarified properly, instead of keep mentioning that Gerald had quit, due to a trivial injury in his opinion, straight after the fight. Jim Watt, commentating for ITV, mentioned that Gerald may have quit as well, although nowhere near as much as Ferdy.
It was in the moment and no one truly knew how badly Gerald was hurt until it was too late. It's likely that Gerald was already suffering from head injuries but Benn was the one to end it.
@@irvinmorales1409he was already injured in his first fight with Jackson. That started his neurological problems, in my opinion.
The London Arena is now a block of posh flats. The floating Chinese restaurant is still there though!! It was demolished in 2006. Due to the lack of multiple transport links, there was only one DLR station, and the O2 being up the road, which was bigger and had more transport links with the DLR, underground and plenty of parking space..
Why would we want to know that?
@@user-lz7bp7mk9fI would, it's interesting, and there's plenty local fans have seen the transformation of the area, many of them were in that roaring crowd. Where were you?
@@martytdd1606thanks. Unfortunately these platforms attract occasional rudeness from people who should know better. I was there that night. As someone who is local to Crossharbour and the Isle of Dogs, I was gutted when they demolished the Arena. Best thing on the island for ages.
@@user-lz7bp7mk9fplenty of people do, even if you don't. No need for the abrupt and borderline rudeness.
Ignore the troll. mrK. I used to work in the Asda opposite. 🙂
