Barnes & Noble Criterion Sale Haul (June 2024)
Baby I've come back from my self imposed exile and I'm ready to show y'all what I just got. Feels good to be able to buy movies in person again, the state of physical media shopping has been so bleak lately and it's been making me so sad. Always happy to show everyone what I bought and to discuss why I bought them. At the time of posting this I see I reached 500 subscribers, as I said in the video thank you for everyone who follows me and watches my videos! I appreciate it so much!

My Top Ten Movies of 2023

I was dying while filming this and I realized I made a lot of mistakes while talking, I edited out what I could but there will be moments where I mess up saying something. I also cut a lot of my rambling as I realized there was a lot in here that could be cut for time. Anyways hope y'all enjoy a half lucid me speaking about my favorite movies of the year. I lied this video is over twenty minutes, when I get to talking I have no idea how long I've been talking. Took all the strength I had to actually sit down and make this video, my energy has been diverted to too many others things to consistently make videos anymore. Still had to make this one because I love talking about movies. Follow Me on Twitter: CBorile Follow Me on Letterboxd...

This was my first Criterion Sale! So far I have only bought films that I love, and very much enjoy. I also only bought films that are specifically available on Criterion. Five were 4K, and two were Blu Ray. I skipped The Graduate, and Midnight Cowboy because they have normal releases. I also got The Qatsi Trilogy in used condition for $23 back in May/June. Wish they would release Cinema Paradiso!

I for sure plan on getting Bound, Dogfight, and To Die For. I was so excited when these were each announced! I was just thinking about rewatching Bound a couple weeks before the announcement! It seems to be a pretty popular title this sale, which is surprising to me because I had never heard anyone talk about it before. Dogfight is my favorite River Phoenix film! I think his best performance is My Own Private Idaho but Dogfight is my personal fav film he's in. And To Die For is crazy, kind of campy, and fun. Nicole Kidman is off the rails in it. There are definitely more releases I'm contemplating but I can't (or at least shouldn't) get much more! It's so easy to get carried away!

My Own Private Idaho was my first criterion I ever bought/learned of. The Amazon algorithm got my college ass, that’s also the first movie I ever saw River Phoenix in. If you haven’t seen Running on Empty his Oscar nominated performance you should as he’s great in it. Well I’ve already picked up a few more that I wasn’t expecting to, so imma have to make some tough decisions regarding what I can and can’t keep.

Hello from a fellow PNW collector! I don’t mind the rerelease of 4K titles as “new” announcements, I just wish they’d update the cover. Perhaps it’s a contract agreement with the artist. Also, do you recommend a B&N location in Seattle? I’ve just always gone to the Northgate location. I was able to go first day of the sale and got just about everything I wanted. Wouldn’t mind a bigger section, however. I picked up Day For Night, Mishima: A Life In Four Chapters, The Fisher King (4K), The Seventh Seal (4K) and The Cremator.

Yeah it would be better if they could update the artwork for the 4k editions, they did it with Rules of the Game. I just go to Northgate and Bellevue now, Bellevue had a good selection but then they moved their location and now their selection is smaller. Your inner emotions of impression of the character in the film of Ke Huay Kwan is so moving... Thank you for your expression.

I loved both Coraline and the Sandman. Neil Gaiman is a favorite of mine. I am glad to know there is a second season because you never know with Netflix and it's habit of cancelling shows. I agree that they should release a copy on Blu-ray.

Round Midnight is one of those great movies that very few people know about.

I can't get past Delon's homophobia. I know he is a part of his time but I just can't do it. I did enjoy 'Worst Person..." very much.

Yeah it’s hard when a lot of old stars are like that, who knows maybe he’s changed. I mean he is still alive. For me I’m just like imma pretend I don’t see that 😅. Worst Person really deserved more, better than a lot of the films that year.
