Clif is a licensed Captain and retired flyfishing guide on the Gulf Coast. He started a full-time fishing career in 1989 and has been fishing ever since. His accomplishments include 5 IGFA fly fishing world records and travelling worldwide to fish and photograph.

Often we have to really slow down. Also, we watch for dragon flies, bass love them. When dragon flies hatch, frog fishing can be best. Good luck!

Very smart the shark
Educational. Learned this when I first went to sea. Unusable foodstuffs that fish will eat (plus other stuff) is routinely tossed over the fantail, into the sea. Sharks and other fish will follow that stream of foods. So once they associate ships/ boats with goulash, they keep an eye out for vessels wandering around at sea, they follow. What happens? A guy on the boat with a string on a stick, and a safety pin with a hefty fish on it, drops Said fish into the water! AHA! LUNCH. THE LESSON: DON'T swim around boats or ships at sea, or even in Port. Just a thought.

Cortez Tanner Banks 120 miles west of the coast...acres and acres of foaming water bluefin smashing bait fish 1991 Lots of us were outgunned later in the day... 14 foot Hammerhead was chomping this 140 lb tuna it was surreal that's sharks eyes were as big as tennis balls....1200 lb shark? It's ten feet from the rail with one hammer 4 foot out of the water and from below this 900 lb? Sea lion Rams the shark off the tuna and began eating it! Right in front of me! @@CaptainClif Yep, they are magnificent creatures, designed to eat anything. However, most shark attacks take place in shallow water, where people swim, and ( in innocent ignorance, tell their small children to play. Sharks will chase prey onto the beach, grab it, and flop back into the water. PARENTS!! PLAY with you little ones in a nice, safe pool at the motel. Then go to the beach, and stay with them at least 40' from the water.
It looks like a larger shark took a pass at it by the boat. The Mako is having a bad day.
