When Sailing
Италия
Добавлен 22 апр 2018
We are Greta & Michael and we've created this channel to share our journey living on our sailboat For Tuna. Expect some awesome sailing content, freediving stories and follow our sustainable travel to the most awesome spots of the world by subscribing to our channel!
We started this channel to share our journey and show you how we bought our sailboat, started our Sailing Journey in Sardinia, Italy in 2019 and have since then sailed over 5000 nautical miles with the goal to cross the Atlantic. During our travels we explore amazing beaches, caves and hidden places and mix those with freediving, snorkelling and enjoying local specialities. We try to catch some fish along the way and do our best to post a new video every other Sunday (mostly:) to inspire your weekend and share our story.
Follow along to discover remote places, sailing experiences and tips for sustainable travel ideas. And boat work....definitely constant boat work:)

And this year's hurricane Beryl... NOAA forecasts are off and need new models, it's becoming more erratic than predicted.
Nice videos from your fantastic sailboat :) What kind of MPPT are you using for the wind generator?
Brugh
Why isn't Beaker's version of this song bringing this hit back to the charts?!? This is the greatest music I've ever heard on a short! Thank you!!!
This got me to subscribe.
That's pretty good 👍
good job :)
You need to work on your audio, very difficult to listen to.
I didn't have any problem listening and understanding.
Nobody gives a damn how are you all out your million-dollar boat come on
Love seeing that you wore life-jackets on the crossing!
always ⛵️
Not sure how you came up with 2L/hr. Didn't you say you used 105L in 85 hrs? lf so, that is 1.25L/hr.
Wish u tubers would stop with annoying music
ДЯКУЮ
Which model is that ?
what speed and range motoring and what speed sailing?
i need a slightly bigger boat for crossing oceans (423)
also a great boat ⛵️
All these sailors and their nasty vegetarian foods.
is the orange one a storm trysail? If so, Plastic luff slides? I'd have used all stainless.

@@WhenSailing like a separate through hull connection, or into the existing transom vent?
Hello I have question not about your dish machine but about your washing machine. 1) are you still happy with it ? 2) did you have issues since 2 years ? 3) in your video you dis not say if you have vibrations when the spin speed reach 700 rpm ? 4) how did you close the gap between the wood and the fiberglass in order to tight strongly the machine. Thank for your video and help
hello :) 1. we are still very happy with the machine 2. no issues so far, just keep soap water away from anchor chain 3. yeah there are vibrations but only a few secs at the end when it spins 4. we did not close the gap, we have long screws who go thorugh both, not ideal but works hole that answer it all :)
Great video!! Very useful. I am still struggling to find out how/where to register the boat. Questions I have: - Is a boat name change possible? - Which country to register the boat (I read in Europe it is easy to register in the Netherlands (I am Dutch) and Poland (I live in Poland)? - When registering a boat, do you need to have a berth in a marina (the whole point for me of living at sea is that you stay majority of the time out of marinas)? - If you don't have a home address, how do you deal with registrations (bank account, mail, other things which require an address)?
hey :) yes you can change boatnames (its though a superstition that it brings bad luck) go for poland if you life there they have great conditions no you do not need a berth, but a home port which will be given with registration - we still have a land home address, not sure how it works withhout, maybe you can get a address box?
I will have to order the same kit as we are also having water leaking. I didn't know where it came from. Probably the same place as you
yeah its tricky to pinpoint exactly where the water is coming from
And remember to let your lines out as you go down :-). @sailingandscuba
yeah always keep and eye on the lines
Oups, engine problems 😮
jep not fun 😅
That mini dishwasher is so funny. I'll look if we can install the same as we have the same boat
we love it so far, you can find it here if you like tidd.ly/3LNnQgi
I want to move aboard a sailboat and live full time. My biggest hurdle so far is income, I just don't have the slightest idea at this current moment what I can do as in working while living aboard a sail boat. I would love to hear ideas if there are any people out there with suggestions.
hello :) we do understand your challenges many face them thats why we have created this guide to help you find your income stream www.whensailing.com/boatlife-income
That must have been an adventure on its own 👍
it’s a daily adventure on board ⛵️
I'm happy I was able to meet you both at Annapolis. I'll be looking you up on Instagram now that I know that is the place you put the most content.
Hello Allyn, so nice to meet you :) yea most of our content is on Instagram ☺️ see you over there we still will try to post more also on YT ☺️

Yes… the ocean changes you.
it does in beautiful ways :)
😂 we know the feeling here in the Med. Nothing or too much
haha yeah never what you are looking for xD
Ugh electric sewing machines 😅 I got on ok with a manual Treadle machine- very controllable- well needed some custom Cockpit Shading Canopies for my last Boat, and found a brilliant deal on a new Singer electric one in the USA- reviews said plenty powerful enough with the right needles etc, and a couple of other good extras, so took the plunge. Well the thing was really Really powerful and Friend Don I was staying with and yours truly just couldn’t handle the thing 🤣🤣🤣 Then massive good luck, Don’s daughter turned out to be a Seamstress, and wow was she impressive handling that thing. Don had some Custom Fabric work for upholstery work on a 57 Chevy he was restoring, and daughter had projects coming up too, so the Singer had a great home with those two, and I never wanted to see another electric Sewing machine either. 🤣🤣🤣. Looking forward to seeing how all your hard work turns out. Best Wishes and lots of luck with your Projects. Bob in Wales. 🏴🇬🇧⛵️🌟🌟🌟❤️
haha yeah they are not easy to handle. so happy Michael took the lead here and just applied himself. always amazed how he just learns whatever is needed. Glad to hear your Singer found a good home, those are beautiful (strong) machines.
Outstanding!
thanks :)
Looks really good
thanks was quite the work
Welcome to Port Washington NY. Saw your boat while perusing the many boats taking shelter from Hurricane Lee. Enjoy and safe travels.
thanks :) was a great place to hide
Lol 😂
hihi
That's not bad fuel consumption at all and with the extra power spare, clearly, and very sadly, there just isn't Any Battery Technology avoilable now, or in the forseeable future that has anything approaching the energy storage Density of Diesel Fuel. Not even for Gasoline for that matter. Thanks for Confirming my findings so Comprehensively. One thing can make a difference and that is to have a Propeller optimised for the Torque Curve of the specific engine. So at low rpm, you can get a very good propulsion speed, while the engine has a decent working Load, as Diesel engines really love working. One of the best, if not the Best for this, is the Flexofold Prop which at low rpm an give a speed of over 7 knots. 7.6 knots if I remember right, and in comparison tests they always seem to come out on top. They are quite expensive, but may well be worth it due to such an outstanding performance in test after test. I haven't had one to test yet, but I am really looking forward to trying one, I did a quick estimate ofvthe range I could easily achieve if setting off from Cape Verde with full diesel tanks plus reserve Jerry Cans full of diesel as well, and with one of those Props, and becalmed, in the Doldrums, which can last for weeks, without starting into the Reserve Jerry Cans, I was shocked to see a predicted *Minimum* of 1725 miles range for hunting for Wind. Reserves are really just for keeping until getting close to shore. I do have a bit of an odd routine, to help keep a diesel engine in tip top Condition as they love being used regularly. So an hour before Dawn, I furl in the Sails, fire up the motor, and while it is warming up, put the Autopilot on this is also providing hot water for the shower or washing up, plus if I get one of those portable induction hobs, can use it to cook breakfast and run the 12v watermaker for an hour. plus top up batteries a bit before the solar panels start charging. At Sunset, do the Same but for evening meal, shower before bed, and washing up, plus a bit more water made. If a bit more than an hour each time, no worries. Happy engine and gearbox, and happy batteries and Crew rested, fed and watered. Best Wishes and Fair Winds. Bob. Oh you got me looking for Flexible Solar Panels, as most seem ded in 2 to 3 years. Found some with a 5 year guarantee - sold by Renogy 200 watt ones under £200 each. I was going to avoid flexi panels, I think these I'll Test. ❤ ⛵️✨️✨️✨️
well I think you go the gist, that no solution is simple and one has to find a compromise that works for him. We like our solar panels because they are easy to fix, but honestly if you have a structure for rigid solar panels go for those as their performance is just way better especially if you can oriente them towards the sun.
@@WhenSailing Yep definitely. Best Wishes. Bob. 👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️❤️
Litter bug. Fucking rich people.
Great find those spacers. Your solar panels are huge 👍 Happy sailing
yeah this one is very big 😅
More solar please and thank you.
I think for now we topped up ☀️
