Do this in the garden BEFORE frost comes!!! Tagging Dahlia Varieties Before Digging Dahlias
Просмотров 101Месяц назад
I'm usually really bad about tagging my dahlias before digging them or keeping meticulous track of what is what. Not so this year my friends. Not so! I'm determined to keep better records and know the variety of each plant.

Ranunculus Growing Series: Winter PreSprouting Ranunculus Indoors for Cut Flower Farm
Thank you.
Good Morning. Great and informative video. I love ranunculus and have tried growing them many times by planting them in the garden. That was very unsuccessful. I am going to try to grow them by starting indoors this year. I received my tubers and soak them. The instructed me to plant them and cover them with 2 inches of potting mix. I noticed that you don't cover yours that deeply. Will mine be okay?
This is what I’ve been doing 🤪 I pulled my first bed and a half . I’m storing in clumps this year
Awesome!!! I'm also storing in clumps this year! Seeing if I like that better.
What's the temperature of your grow room? I built a hydroponic system I use for my soil blocks and love it so I may give it a whirl with tulips. Do you think the trace filled with pebbles or pumice would work to give bulbs some elevation?
Our basement is usually between 58-62 degrees F so it's maybe not as perfect as it should be but it worked. I'm doing this again this winter and will be able to share even more with that experience hopefully!! I think maybe pubbles could work?? Worth trying it!!
I am so sorry that you lost your precious babies! May God bless you and heal your heart.❤️
You are so kind! Thank you 🙏🏻
Losses change you :( I’m sorry for your losses. I’m in Ky and it’s been a wild dahlia growing season for certain. I’ve been toying with digging mine early or not .
It's so true. An opportunity to hopefully help others along, too. I hope you didn't have too much damage!
Libby, I have so enjoyed following you on this channel, learning from you about gardening, seeing you as a mom to your precious children, and hearing that you are growing spiritually. I am so truly sad about your year of loss in the garden and especially in your little family and pray that God will lift your spirits in a way that only He can. Looking forward to your return in the coming year and wish you all the joy and happiness that you deserve!❤ Love you!
Thank you Cindy! 🙏🏻🥹 You are so encouraging.
Hi, I've had two miscarriages also, one at 7 weeks and one at 11 weeks. Both were very upsetting and I didn't have a dnc procedure with either so they were scary as well. I have only one child and still feel sad about that sometimes but I think everything happens for a reason and it's part of God's plan. I hope you are able to fulfill all your mom dreams and farm dreams.
💕 Oh mama I'm so sorry. Yes, nobody shares how hard it is physically 😞 Prayer do you, too!
I love your honesty and your openness to share your faith. I am a newbie to your channel. I am a mom of nine. I’m so sorry for your losses but I sense that you have a hope for the future and I agree with that. I had 4 miscarriages so I have an idea of what you are going through. I’ve never grown dahlias but yours looked beautiful to me. God bless you and your family. ❤
I appreciate your encouragement! Yes, it's always a little bit uneasy putting yourself out there but I think that this is a small way I can shine His light! 🕯️
Hi! Enjoying your content! Please don't hate on me for a stupid question but I'm wondering if you can kindly share the link to where you get your flower buckets?!?! Or point me in the right direction because I'm starting my own hobby flower garden next year and i need ALL the things😂😂
No problem!! One of these bucks is an OXO cleaning bucket. I think I talk more about it in my harvesting tulip video. The silver galvanized buckets are smaller buckets from Menards. They have silicone on the bottom to seal in the water. It gets rusty though so I try to clean it out more often and probably could put down silicone the bottom to prevent that.
@@mapleleafbarn You're the best! Thanks for ALL that! ♥️😍
Could you provide the info on the items you bought from Bootstrap Farmer? Thanks
I'm sorry, I forgot to add that to the description! They are now added to the details at the bottom of the description!
Very interesting! How many were you able to grow in each tray? Do you have a diagram for how everything is set up? Would love to get that. Thanks
Did she ever give this information? I would love to see it too
I'm actually working on a new prototype for this to fix some of the issues I ran into and I'll be posting a video this fall once I have landed on what I'm going to do! 😁 Subscribe and stay in touch!!
Hi, I'm in zone 6b also. In September I direct sow larkspur, cerinthe, ammi and orlaya for spring blooms with great success. I also started Sweet William, feverfew and snapdragons in my basement under lights to transplant out next month. Your foxgloves look amazing. Please show us your Floret zinnias!
That sounds like a good plan. I'm going to tarp off some of my rows to get them ready for fall planting too. I'm sorry to say my Floret zinnias got hit with major powdery mildew with the low temperatures and high humidity last week and so they're not looking very good right now.
Are you planning on doing tulips indoors this winter again? Have you ordered? I’m hoping to be able to grow tulips indoors (taking inspo from you!)
Yes, I am planning on doing them indoors again and on an even larger scale this time. I am actually putting together a video about all of that for a release in the next couple weeks.
What kind of zinnas did you do?
I stick to the Benary's Giant varieties but I also planted a few of Floret's specialty bred varieties.
❤❤❤
Thanks friend
So does the bakery then pay you weekly for sales?
Our agreement was that the shop would sell them for the price I listed, take 10% of each sale and give me the remaining balance at the end of each month. Does that make sense?
❤
💞
❤❤❤
I know!! I'm doubling down next season.

I live in SoCal 9b. We’ve had weeks of 100+ temps. My dahlias are struggling but shade cloth is my friend. So far the following have endured the heat and are flourishing: Kelvin Floodlight. Wizard of Oz. Arabian Nights. Linda’s Baby and Bashful. Good luck with the rest of your season.
Growing up in Texas I totally feel for you with those 100+ days! That's just tooooooo hot for me! I'm glad your shade cloth is working!
Great content, good to learn about how cuttings grow faster. Dahlias look so healthy! Floyd reminds me of my neighbor's tabby cat who passed last year. He used to sit in the garden while I weeded. I love tabby cats!
Thanks! I can't wait for them to get going.
You have the essential ingredient necessary in every successful Dahlia growers arsenal…..a cat. Hi Floyd! There is a definite correlation between dahlia lovers and cats! Beautiful blooms, thanks for sharing!
Thanks Kerry! We definitely hope Floyd lives many happy years with us here on the farm!

How many Japanese beetles vs blister beetles did you see
I'm definitely having a bigger issue with the blister beetles vs Japanese Beetles. I'd say I saw like 20ish Japanese Beetles vs the 100+ Blister Beetles. I think it might be due to the traditional agriculture field around us planting alfalfa and soy beans vs the corn that's been planted for the last 3 years of being here.
Great timing! I ordered my panels, and t posts from Tractor Supply today and I now have a tutorial to follow! Thanks for sharing 💚 growing flowers in Central Kentucky Zone 7b
Yay!! I got my panels there, too! Also, I love me some central KY! 😍 Have you ever been to The Windy Corner in Lexington? So good 😋
Hi, I just set up a Square Site and I've taken payments online but not in person yet. I'm liking Square so far. I live in NJ and I sold at a local farmers market years ago. Unfortunately they required an insurance policy to sell at the market so I didnt make enough sales to cover the insurance. I'm doing better selling flowers at my house. This looks like a great market, thanks for sharing.
Our market also requires proof of liability insurance for the business, we were able to add it to our home policy (since we also have small events at our farm) for less than $150 a year. See if you can lump it in with your home insurance provider!
Congratulations
Thanks! 😊
Don't be so hard on yourself. You have two small children, that alone is a full time job. I work full time and have a nine year old and I feel like only in the last year have I had time to myself. Sorry to hear you were sick. Your flowers will still be beautiful.
Also, are you planting in the landscape fabric or are you just using it for walkways? Planting in landscape fabric should help with weeds. I also use hay to keep weeds down and it really helps. You could also try a stand up hoe to weed.
Thank you for the encouragement 😊🙏🏻
Maybe its worth in a long run.u probably get free chip drop from your area.
I'll have to look into the local tree cutting opportunities
@@mapleleafbarn ❤
I hate crab grass. Praying for your garden.
Thanks friend 😊
Praise God you are recovered! Thank you for showing us the amount of love and work going into our beautiful boutique! Blessings!
Awe thank you ☺️ God is good 🙏🏻
Wow thats a lot of work.pulling that weeds.what if, if you mulch the beds with very fine mulch, would be a lot of work snd costly?maybe its not worth eh?
You have a point. I've thought about mulching but haven't committed to that yet.
Are you planting zinnias?
Yes! I'll be planting another 50 ft bed this week or next week for a little bit of a later succession.
Did they tell you why you didn't get it? Can you apply again this year?
Yes, they told me but only after I followed up with them for what feels like the 1000th time. Yes, they said I could apply next year but that flowers were not their primary interest. The program has changed ged criteria in 2024 which will make it very difficult for small farms or non food producers to be granted.
Oh, sorry, your farm didn't get selected. I'm glad you still are making the best of your time. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Thanks friend 😊
You have the best helpers at the nursery! Love and prayers!
He's at the stage where he wants to be really involved 💖
❤/muito obrigado, Eu tenho dálias mas propagava mal os tubérculos mas agora aprendi de ti. Farei o melhor
I'm glad this was helpful 😄
@@mapleleafbarn So much helpful, thanks
Great idea!!
Thank you! 😊
What a wonderful idea, Libby! As a longtime gardener with many established peony bushes, I would love to help a local flower farmer here in Illinois. 🌸
I bet they are absolutely stunning!! Maybe a Illinois small scale grower will find this and then you!
That is a brilliant idea, and what a great way to get to know people in your community. ❤
Thank you! I had a lot of fun doing this!
Omg I LOVE peonies! Will they be a pet of the Summer CSA?
I love them, too! Unfortunately, peonies are a late spring/early summer crop and will not be available in the summer CSA!
Great idea!
Thanks 🥳

I live in MN. When is the best time to grow them?
Hey! Thanks so much for subscribing! I'm so glad you're a fellow coffee lover. I believe Minnesota is in zone 5 or 6 which means it's a pretty cold climate. I would suggest starting them in September indoors and planting them out in late September or early October to get a good growth on the roots, but you'll definitely want to have them protected under greenhouse plastic and frost cloth in a low tunnel if you don't have a high tunnel. They definitely don't want to get frozen so they'll need to be protected from your harsh winters.
I love coffee.
Yay
Hi. I just subscribed to your channel.
Welcome!
I’m growing poppies for the first time so this is super helpful ❤ thank you ☺️
Glad I could help! ☺️
Great video. Voice is good for instructions 😀. Great job!
Appreciate that! Good luck!
Great video. Thanks for the help. This is my first year growing dahlias from tubers. I've always bought them already growing. I love them!
That's amazing!! I hope you have a great season!!
