i don't trust small towns
“Beacon Pines” is a sweet, coming-of-age story. It’s also a choose your own adventure with multiple endings (kind of...). With a surprising mix of horror and sci-fi thrown in there. But throughout its branching paths, it becomes clear what the story is really about.
Or, I go on a rant about how small, cozy towns are apparently never what they seem.

Studying Inner Lives: The Characters of Paul Mescal
Просмотров 7 тыс.Год назад
Paul Mescal had his breakout role in the miniseries "Normal People" in 2020. And by 2023 he had his first Oscar nomination for his heartbreaking performance in "Aftersun." Mescal’s work is an examination of masculinity and mental health. He’s drawn to complex, and not always good, characters who start conversations about serious problems in our society through deeply personal stories. This vide...
Putting Women on Pedestals | Katharine Hepburn in The Philadelphia Story
Просмотров 3,5 тыс.Год назад
"The Philadelphia Story" is a solid entry in the screwball comedy genre with a brilliant cast, and is one of my favourite films. However, as I've gotten older I've realised it has some of the most misogynistic language you'll find in a romantic comedy. Let's take a look at the film's treatment of women, through the main character Tracy Lord (played by Katharine Hepburn). FAIR USE DISCLAIMER:Thi...

The intro reeks of progressive propaganda on the time period of the film. 12:30 is just wrong. Dexter never physically abused her. She WANTED him to so she could talk shit about him and so people wouldn't judge her own scolding failures in their relationship. 15:00 is just Dexter throwing this in her face. Just like in the opening scene when she taunted him and leaned in to the punch, he refused to actually hit her.

This is a marvelous piece of work! Thank you so much. I think Andrew Scott was correct when he said that Paul Mescal is the future of theatre and film, and if that’s true, theatre and film are in good hands.

I had a hard time actually believing Brian ( Mescal) could do something so un Connell like. Not sure that makes sense but when I saw God’s Creatures I was confused by his behavior. Because we never actually see the sexual assault I kept thinking maybe he didn’t do that to her. But, then someone said oh yes he did. I know all characters are different and Mescal is so good and never fails to bring tears to my eyes. I enjoy all of his performances. Bravo

I'm sorry but l do not share your opinion about this film. I prefer to interpret the motivations and actions of the characters as complex individuals with good and bad traits, bumbling through life as best they can. Unless I'm very much mistaken, you would have us believe that ALL the men in the film are narcissistic, sexistic misogynists with a tendency to physical abuse. That's horrible. I would imagine that all the Pat and Mike films that Hepburn did with Spencer Tracy as well as Woman of the Year would also fall into this category.

What do you from her?these people are incapable of judging a film from that era without the modern lens of identity politics, everything has to be sexist and racist all the time, they just can't help it,I think it's called presentism.
