It definitely changed when they redesigned the zoo and worked to create more natural "habitats" for the animals. The aesthetic is definitely prettier than before, but the overall vibe is different than when I was a kid in the 70s and 80s. I have heard the new orangutan facility is nice, but haven't been to see it yet.

I recall going and watching a football game there in high school (my family lived in the Westside school district growing up). I had to look up just now and see when Central finally finished its own stadium (completed in 2005). It's a great area (we live near 48th and Grover). I need to get to Morton Meadows (north of this walk) because I know people will probably love the architecture there. Thank you once again for watching and providing your insights! 👍

I have always considered the area north of Grover, east of 60th, and west of 42nd to be part of Midtown Omaha. But people certainly have varying opinions on that (I considering South Omaha to be east of 42nd). Thanks for watching!!

@@WalkNebraska You can hear those cars from your house. There is one in particular that every time they let off the gas, it back fires. One night a bunch of us were at the neighbor's house and that car reved its engine for nearly 20 min. "Rev, Boom! Rev, Boom! Rev, Boom! Rev, Boom! Rev, Boom! Rev, Boom! Rev, Boom! Rev, Boom! Rev, Boom! Rev, Boom!" for 20 straight min before they raced down center, and then down 90th...

@@bradwilliamsphoto At the 25:44 mark you can hear the first "boom", then more starting around 26:20. I did wonder what was going on at that point and where that particular car was. It's interesting to hear that this wasn't an isolated occurrence! 🤕

Such a great part of town. There are some lovely homes south of Leavenworth between 50th and 60th Street. That entire area north of Hy-Vee is one of my favorite areas in Omaha. The retail options along Leavenworth St. west of 50th really have changed the past 5 years (sad to see Garda's go). I need to film that area before any additional changes take place. What are your thoughts on qualified immunity?

@@DemoMan-fq9zi when I became an officer I didn’t know anything about it. We were told in the academy we could be sued personally for our actions while in uniform. I personally treated people the way I wanted to be treated. The serve and protect that used to be on cruisers meant something to me. My dad was also a cop.

@@foxlife9366Dang, your videos aren’t bad, I like seeing the foxes. Pity they never gained traction. And as for cops, I sorta do feel for them. It was better when the country had a common European ancestry before Lyndon ruined all of that

That's awesome. It is a great neighborhood! I grew up in District 66 and am a grad of Westside (my dad was a guidance counselor in the district for many years). I remember taking art classes at Pipal Park as a kid in the 1980s. I will definitely return for more walks in the neighborhood and will capture more of the area in the future. Haha! I ended the video in the tunnel in the Elmwood Park Grotto because I thought it would be a need way to end it. But you do make an interesting point. The graffiti definitely contrasts with the beautiful homes and well maintained lawns in the adjacent neighborhood. ;)
