Trying something different, went out on the Wharf Cat out of Port Aransas, caught some great fish
Went out on the Wharf Cat out of Port Aransas and Fisherman's Wharf. Had a great time and caught a decent amount of fish.
Sorry for some of the video footage, was trying out a new chest mount for the GoPro and I didn't get as many good shots as I wanted. Also you won't see many pictures of the fish caught, the crew was so efficient the fish were put on ice immediately after they were caught. And speaking of the crew, these guys and gals were fantastic, they took great care of all the passengers and made sure everybody had the chance to catch something. When the lines came up tangled, the crew was right there to get them straightened out so we could get back in the water.

Hello Everybody and thank you for watching. Took the Fish Pro Trophy back to the liberty ships, N27 34 03.5 and W096 51 34.8, and caught a couple of small keeper Red Snapper. Used cut finger mullet, 30lb braid, 100 mono leader, 8oz egg sinker, and 8/0 circle hook. Dropped in water 100-110 feet deep and drifted across the ridge line. Water was very calm and there were several boats at the site, ...

Good Afternoon and thank you for watching. Today I am trying a new place, at the end of Whitecap Road on the Island. Nice channel around the area and what appears to be some very decent fishing areas. Went back to Kate's Hole and Packery Channel, wind was brutal. Will be trying the USS Lexington next and going offshore for some snapper very soon. Sound courtesy of www.bendsound.com

While out fishing at Packery Channel bridge I sucked up a rope into the impeller. This was completely my fault as it was the rope from my bait bucket floating in the water. why didnt you use the trolling feature to troll against the drift and kinda stay stationary?
@@caseyswearingen9267 hello and thank you for watching. I usually do not keep the motor running while fishing unless I am specifically going out to troll. I am usually out there to relax and listen to the surroundings, keeping the motor running just so I don’t move isn’t a concern of mine. If I move too far away from where I started I’ll just idle back when I’m ready. It is just a personal preference.
What does it cost for one person to get on this fishing trip?
Hello and thank you for watching. I believe it is $165 per adult and after tax $179 if I recall correctly. Good Luck Jeff
Nice catch. How many hour trip was that and what does it cost?
@@franktirelli hello and thank you for watching. This trip was 12 hours and the cost is $165 per adult plus taxes, I think the total cost was $179. Hope this helps, Jeff

awesome fish, i caught a beautiful 40" reddrum last weekend. just a tiny bit past slot size :)
Were you on the inside of the jetties ? Or did you go out and wrap back around
Hello and thanks for watching. I was on the south jetty on the beach side.
I’ve tried twice to go offshore in my trophy, but the waves were like this. It’d be awesome if you’d let me tag along a trip or two.
Hello and thanks for watching. I am actually planning to go out tomorrow, Friday June 7th if you want to go. I’m planning to leave from Packery boat ramp hopefully around 7:30. Planning to go about 30 miles out to a pipeline junction to get some snapper. Send me a PM if you want to go.
@@jeffjohnson674 I don't see your PM icon. I'm not able to private message you. Are you able to PM me?
Nice Sea-Doo, making me want to get one! Great video, sometimes you strike out and sometimes you don't. Never know if you don't try.
Hello and thanks for watching. Very true, if we got fish each time out it would be called catching and not fishing. Always have a great time no matter what happens.
Thanks for posting an video
I think I’m having this issue. Trolling and idf isn’t working. Was your trolling not working? Does your screen have accessories option showing?
Good afternoon and thank you for watching. I had no special features for the Trophy at this time. It wasn't until the dealership reclassified the computer. The computer thought it was not on an IDF compatible ski so none of those features would work. After the dealership changed it to an IDF compatible ski all of the special features, including IDF and trolling, would work. Good Luck
does it cover the live baitwell at the back?
Hello and thank you for watching. No, the cover will not go over the cooler but there are openings so you can reattach the cooler once the cover is on. Hope this helps, Jeff

Thanks worked like a charm
I noticed the corrosion on the shaft and impeller most likely caused by fishing in salt water. Is that something to worry about or is it normal? I ride a Trophy as well but I'm concerned about taking it to the coast.
Good evening and thank you for watching. I’ve been fishing salt water since I bought the ski back in 22, I’ve mixed some fresh water in there too. If you fish in salt water you just have to wash the ski with fresh water when you come off the water. I normally wash my ski each time I get home and let it dry before putting it away. There have been a couple of times I ended up washing it the next day. I run water through the drive system if I’m going to let the ski sit more than a few days otherwise I just wash the outside. I have gone through all of the electronic connections and made sure they were protected with dielectric grease and anti-corrosion spray, seems to be doing great for the internals. I have had to work on my trailer lights a couple of times. This time I am using Flex Seal paste to cover all of the butt connectors so water won’t get in there and cause them to corrode. All of this seems like a lot of work but the prevention will help the ski last longer. Hope this helps, Jeff
How you liking that Carnage rod, any problems with the guides?

I just found your channel. Great video. Your running commentary is smooth and calm and your editing skills keep our attention. I fish this spot with my kayak and from shore. I can usually catch mullet, shad and pin fish for bait with my cast nest. The current is usually very swift but looked OK when you filmed this content. I've been fishing the jetties lately but your video has inspired me to return to this spot. Thank you for sharing.
Just subscribed New viewer 😁😁😁 What are your thoughts on the fish pro trophy?
Hello and thank you for watching. I really like the Trophy, been an absolute joy to fish from. I had a couple of minor issues after purchasing that dealt with the computer but once those were figured out it hasn’t missed a beat. Thanks again and good luck.
How far does it take to get the the rig from poc.
Good evening and thanks for watching. The first set of rigs is about 10 miles from the end of the big jetties. Depending on the seas might take about 30 minutes. There are some further out.
45 feet deep??? I had no idea that channel was that deep
Hello and thank you for watching. That 45’ depth is only a very small area in the middle, just under the bridge center is between 6-7’ then it goes to around 20-30’ in some areas. It is very sporadic all over, I was surprised and how inconsistent it really is. I have been finding the fish between 20’ and 10’ areas. This past time I was using live menhaden and I saw people using live shrimp. Good luck.
@@texaspwcfishing6676 yeah i talked to a coworker today that confirmed that, he said there is a big hole just next to the bridge... that explains the big drum etc that come out of there
Great video and congratulations on your PB. I'm seriously considering getting a Fish Pro for fishing in the UK and will be taking the RYA PWC certificate on Monday. I have some questions...I see that you're not using the big cooler box as either a live-well nor for your catch. Any particular reason? How often do you use the anchor? Would you recommend the Trophy over the other Fish Pro's for any reason? Last question, I'm 250 lbs, am I going to be too heavy? Liked and subscribed! Thanks and all the best from Eastbourne, England.
Hello and thanks for watching. Lots of great questions, I’ll do what I can to answer them for you. I have used the live well feature in the past but I’ve found it is really hard on bait. With all of the bouncing around, sloshing side to side, the bait really takes a beating. Also, I usually use the cooler as a cooler, I’ll put drinks and food in there so I don’t want to stick my catch on top of those. I use the bag for bait and anything I might catch simply to stop cross contamination. As for which Fish Pro to purchase, I really can’t think of any good reason to choose any particular model. I went with the trophy because I wanted all of the extra features it comes with. I like the live well feature idea, just needs to be perfected. The pedestal seat is great in calm weather or on a lake. I will sometimes listen to music and the audio system is great. I also like the speed control features for trolling and running for long distances such as going off shore. I can set a top speed and I don’t have to worry about trying to manipulate the throttle to keep it. Just set my top speed and pull full throttle, won’t exceed what I set. I am right at the 300 mark and I am comfortable riding the ski, no issues with anything. So you should be just fine. If you have any other questions please let me know.
Thanks for your reply and the answers to my questions. I also like the extra features of the Trophy, but I've seen a 2020 Fish Pro for about half the price and I'm thinking it would be more than adequate for me to start off with. I don't see many anglers using these skis here in the uk but it seems like a good alternative to a more costly boat.
You need to watch the bait when you put it in the water at speed. Most likely it is spinning. Size down on your treble Hooks, use bronze Hooks, size down on wire. 30 pound wire should be fine. Why is your skirt so high above the bait,? Your better off drifting I think. I want one of those fish pros, very cool.
When you moved you ski, your kill switch wasn't tethered to you and your life jacket wasn't on. You also had a rod in one hand that was dropped to the bottom as you engaged the ski into gear. I was in a situation where I was 6 miles offshore and lost my balance on a small sailboat and didn't have a lifeline attached and went overboard with the sail out. I barely grabbed onto the rear of the boat as it sped by. That could have been an ugly situation as my radio was in the boat. Things happen and don't want to see you in a bad situation. I know you can't fish well with the kill switch tethered but I would certainly recommend attaching it if you turn the ski on and engage it. Safe fishing!
Hello and thank you for watching. Yes, I’m the early days of learning how to fish on the ski and what to and what not to do I would move the ski around without the kill switch attached. I took off my life jacket that day because it was extremely hot and not much wind that far out. Since then I leave my life jacket on and usually have the kill switch attached when I move the ski. Thank you, Jeff
how did this eventually turn out? This video definitely turned me off the idea of buying a fishpro for fishing. TYhink I will continue considering the switch, but maybe stick with my Kayak.
Hello and thank you for watching. The rock really never caused a problem, it was more me not knowing enough at the time. I took it to the dealer and they said it wasn’t an issue and pretty normal. The IDF issue was caused by the dealer I bought it from set it up incorrectly, once that was resolved the IDF worked perfectly. I haven’t had any issues with the ski since then and I currently have 65 hours on it. Hope this helps, Jeff
do you go out there alone and just park near other boats are do you follow them out. I don't think I would want to be 25 miles out without some support.
Help and thank you for watching. I have gone out many times alone but I don’t just show up at the ramp and say “Oh, let’s go offshore 25 miles today”. Whenever I go offshore alone I plan what I am doing, where I am going and how long I’ll be out. I make sure to relay all of that information to someone who knows me and would be worried about me if I do not tell them I am back by a specific time. I also make sure my gas tank is full, my radio is charged, my phone is charged and all of my emergency kit is in working condition. I also make sure my ski is in working condition. If I have any problem with any of it I postpone my trip until it is fixed. Can things still go wrong, sure, but if you plan for the worst you will be prepared. Plan for the worst but hope for the best. Emergency gear is always a pain to maintain and keep, that is until you need it. Hope this helps, Jeff
Them damn dolphins man, let me know when you’re free so we can take a trip out there.
Great video. Thanks
Is the limit only two fish? Seems like a long way to go for so few fish?
Hello and thank you for watching. Yes, federal limit is 2 red snapper per person per day. The trip is long but it is mostly about the adventure and not always the destination. I have a great time going out, finding fish, making the videos and sharing my experiences with others. I might only get 2 fish, if I’m lucky, but I have a great time doing it. Thanks again for watching, more content is coming. Jeff
Great video Jeff, is that the original Garmin or you upgraded it?
Hello and thanks for watching. I am sorry I haven’t responded before now, I just saw this comment. The head unit is original but the transducer is a UHD-54 that is mounted just behind the intake screen on the bottom of the ski. Hope this helps.
I like the video in the event that you have the fish pro trophy. You should on your video put on your swivel seat so you can show that side of the JetSki.😊
Hello and thank you for watching. I have used the pedestal seat a couple of times while fishing in the bay, I was almost thrown off both times. The swivel seat is great in calm water but just a little wave action and it can be like riding a mechanical bull. I’m a big guy, putting that much so high up can get a little more action than I really want. But I’ll give it another shot and see about getting it on video this time. Jeff

Hi! I just got my Fish Pro Trophy and I would like to know more information about how to keep the battery charged using a floating charger, this considering that we have two batteries. Thanks.
Help and thank you for watching. I have not installed a trickle charger on my ski, haven’t had a need for it. I did let my ski sit unstarted from August 22 - May 23 and the battery wasn’t dead, which really surprised me. It sat through a cold winter and never had any type of charger on it. I might add a trickle charger later but for now I don’t see a reason to. Hope this helps, Jeff

Hello and thank you for watching. When I turn my ski off I leave the kill switch connected but disconnect it from my life preserver. I have not had to switch to an accessory mode to keep the sonar on, it will remain on for about an hour I believe. However, if I remove the kill switch everything will shut off in about 30 seconds, if that long. Hope this helps Jeff

Jeff, is your SeaDoo pulling to the right when you drive straight? It appears on this video that your steering bar is slightly to the left when you were going straight. If that is the case, it's an easy fix to correct the steering alignment. There plenty videos on YouTune on how to DIY, I like this one: ruclips.net/video/luCY9CR8Gi0/видео.html
Hello and thanks for watching. I don’t recall it pulling to the left under power but I’ll check it next time I take it out. Thank you for the information.
@@texaspwcfishing6676 I meant to say it looks like it's pulling to the right, but you steer left to correct it.
Thanks Jeff for this tutorial video. Also, do you have a video on cleaning the SeaDoo after salt water use? Beside the normal wash, do you spray that anti corrosion solution on the engine every time after you use your Trophy on salt water?
Hello and thanks for watching. After each trip on salt water I will wash the ski to get all of the salt spray and grime off. At the end of a trip, maybe 3-4 days long, I will completely wash the ski using good soap and water. I’ll also dry it completely as I can before hitting the road. This has helped keep the salt build up off the outside and in small crevices on the body. What I haven’t done, but need to, is wash the engine compartment. I’ve noticed some corrosion starting around the output shaft and some of the housings around the back of the engine. Right now I h leave the seat and deck cover off because I’m installing a new transducer. Once that is done I’ll completely wash the engine bay, scrub off any visible corrosion, spray it with high temp paint then hit it with the corrosion preventative from BRP. Hopefully that will help it last a little longer. I’ll be relocating to Corpus very soon so it will see a lot more salt water action soon. Hope this helps, Jeff
Hey Jeff, when do you think you'll get your website up and running. I just got a new Seadoo and plan to go offshore fishing out of Packery Channel one of these days
Hello and thanks for watching. I have been slowly updating the site as I go. I haven’t been able to get out on the ski since August, weather up here has been too cold and I’ve been too busy, life happens. I’ll be doing more fishing this summer, I’m relocating to Corpus shortly. As I get more trips in and get some free time I’ll put more on the site. If there is something you think would be interesting to include please let me know. Thanks again, Jeff
Hello Jeff. Enjoying the videos (subbed.) what’s your opinion on using the craft for inshore in the laguna madre? Targeting reds, specks and flounder.
Hello and thank you for watching and subscribing. I have used the ski many times for inshore fishing too. Just have to be careful about how shallow you go. I’ve been as low as 2 feet but you run the chance of sucking up stuff from the bottom. I try to stay in 3 feet or more, makes it easier to get out when I need to. I have had to push the ski out a couple of times because I went too shallow. I hope to get some more videos on soon. The cold weather in the Dallas area makes getting on the lakes not fun. However soon I will be relocating to Corpus so I will be doing a bunch more fishing. I’ve also installed a new transducer so I will have side scan and ClearView down scan. Looking forward to the new capabilities. Good luck and stay safe. Jeff
