Nice layout but too much muffled talking can't really follow what you are saying.
Since you spent several minutes discussing the advantages of technology, I just want to express my hope that the next technological breakthrough is remote uncoupling--viz., opening uncouplers at any point on a layout with the push of a button. I know a Japanese company has a version of it, but so far the cost is prohibitive.
Nice looking layout. Thanks for sharing
40 yrs ago I was a member of Johns Thurs Night Group...Remember his two car garage layout very well and the other layouts of the group members. I enjoyed the friendships and the operating sessions. My career took me away from Mich but I still watch for anything posted on the internet and you tube regarding my model train friends. Thanks for sharing John Depauw's EJ&E layout.
With track, controls/wires, locomotives, rolling stock, structures, scenics/ballast, materials/lumber/lighting, there must be a million dollars invested in this !! I don't know..All those layers...And track cleaning ?..Nice place to visit..But I wouldn't want to live there..
It's certainly an undertaking, but John's layout is a testament to his passion for model railroading.
Really ? Gee, that never would have occurred to me..
Are you being sarcastic?
Man...that is one badass layout😮
One incredible layout. Happy New Year.
Always nice to see the old hometown RR modeled. I grew up in Chicago Heights and spent a lot of time watching them and the Mopac. I got a brick from JAY tower when they tore it down.
Wow…just wow! What an achievement.
you say save your money I get it but let me tell you a secret if you buy a set once a year or aset every six months you could make a splash espelly if you stay with a plan first and the hell with clubs the reason why I say this is because I had no intenions of joining a club train shows are fine to get your creative juices going and if you are creating a specific line such as the one you designed go undecorated locomotives but buy them in sets or bulk great job I thought orange and green was great northern like the color scheme share this advice with other model railroaders.
Spelling, syntax, punctuation, anybody ?
Tremendous layout. Walk-through was a little quick and shaky. Had to stop and back up a few times. Tripod with slower pans would help if an option.
Awesome layout, thank you John for sharing!!!
This is Overwhelming just thinking about the amount of dedication and commitment, work, time, planning, modeling skills, and of course the money that’s involved is incredible. Obviously, the man I believe his name is John if I’m not mistaken said, to start to build something like this today would cost a ridiculous amount of money unfortunately, due too everything being way overpriced today. All I can say is good for him that he was able to do something like this and have the abilities and the funds to do it. I have to say it again, it’s overwhelming.
Great layout, got to operate on it 20 years ago… great that John has continued to refine it and add scenery
This is just awesome. The EJ&E ran across the field from my house in Dyer. Always spent time watching them interchange with the L&N. As a teen I knew every tie between Hartsdale and the Ford plant along Michigan central (Conrail). Never saw a center cab but have many on line photos. I want one in ho no luck so far.
What a fantastic layout! Thanks for sharing!
Fantastic layout Also, nice job presenting and editing with the locations on screen for us to place the locale. I would love to see this layout if the offer to reach out is genuine. I’d hate to be a bother by something this close to home I’d love to see …..
If you every are lake orion, let me know snd we’ll set something up
See the video description for contact details.
Thanks for showing us the EJ&E. It looks to have an amazing amount of operating possibilities. My mind boggles when i think of turning and organising all those car cards and waybills. 😃
I'm glad you noticed the operating potential! There is definitely an art to managing the card systems.
How many cars and engines do you have?
I have over 1000 cars and more that 100 engines
Fantastic job of bringing us Johns magnificent EJ&E layout EMR! I dont know why i havent seen your channel before, but the great job you did with interviewing John, getting his and his layouts backround and history were the perfect lead up to you showing us his layout......totally subbing your channel and cant wait to see the rest of your video library.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
Thanks John, what you have modeled is absolutely incredible!
Epic is the correct word. John, thank you for sharing.
Nice looking layout 🚂🚃🚃🚃👍
Thank you for the comment! It took John a long time to build it.
Outstanding operating layout! I grew up in Aurora, graduating high school in '65 so a little before your modeling era. As a new driver, I remember "escorting" young ladies in my parents' car and driving over a long, rickety 2-lane bridge that spanned the Burlington yard in Eola. It must've crossed a dozen or so tracks! Scared the girls and they'd wiggle closer... which of course was the idea, Long live the EJ&E!
I appreciate your comment and memories!
Beautiful layout. Unreal amount of very large structures. Thanks for posting this gem!
This is very local to me love to see this this layout is very amazing wow
That is a really cool layout. I remember the J as a kid. Mattson Illinois was just down the road a piece for me. Then I lived in Chicago Heights and now I live in Dyer so this layout is kind of like a layout of my own life. Thanks for posting this. Happy new year.
Great layout! I see your name on the EJ&E Forum all the time.
There is an EJ&E forum?
Thanks is saw lots of video on trains layout but this one blow me down,
This is the best channel ever!!!!!
beautiful layout. Idler chatter detracts from visual experience.
Any idea how the majority of the trees were made? Looks like a variation of the "puffball method"
I wish I knew how he built those engines. No one has ever offered a PS&N 2-8-0 model and those are clearly not just "stand-ins' but scratchbuilds.
The audio for the first minute and a half wasn't ear shatteringly annoying at all.
I am sorry you find the safety measures for the railroad annoying. The bells are there to protect people by warning them of the presence of the train.
Thank you for this video: WONDERFUL, MAGNIFICENT!!!
Love your videos. Do you ever run an over the road train? This layout is super, love the realism. Does this group run very many "op" sessions?
From time to time I run over the road train. We usually op fall to spring once a month.
Great video buddy
This is sweet man 👍
Are those coal hoppers loaded with physical material or the little plastic loads that go in one pice? If they are, how are you unloading the cars? Been trying to figure out how to make my own custom coal cars that unload for a while
I can't say for sure with the ones in the video but I typically see physical material but glued in similar to ballast on the tracks.
Mike, your star continues to rise, from model railroad signaling guru to CN all-star to internet personality; well-done! Greetings and much respect from your buddy in Livonia.
Beautifully built layout, superb detail, but the production of the video/audio interview with the ums, aws and ya'knows, did not put the builder in a favorable light. The walk around video conducted at a scale 60 mph was nauseating. Not very Epic video production.
What a beautiful layout! Fantastic modeling. Thanks for taking us on a tour!
Wow, amazing layout! Looks like a lot of opportunities gor great ops sessions. Thanks for sharing!
Like that BIG old style paper mill (or pulp mill). This is huge. This means it's getting closer to scale prototype. A paper mill takes in reality a lot of space. Thanks to the modeler for respecting that fact. Many thanks for sharing it with us.
Awesome…..
This channel is my new favorite
Mike, you are a Top notch railroader!! Stewart would be proud of all you have done!!!
Sorry I am not Mike.
I agree with your views almost 100% I'd never want to go back to DC after experiencing DCC. The sound though... I could do without that. Most everyone has the volume WAY overdone
Awesome job. The layout is fantastic and love how the backdrop merges with the foliage and just fades into the background. Great work. Happy Modelling
Very nice Bill new sub and bell thanks for sharing.😊😊👍👍
Sorry I am not Bill. I record many model Railroads so others can see them. Check out my videos to see much more.
